MAGNUS' ARCHETYPES



Here are the archetypes of cards and game mechanics of our new shapeshifter character. Get to know Magnus the Ugly Jester!

CURSES


The first and main archetype: "Curses". Its idea is that the player imposes on opponents debuffs, each of which slightly reduces the characteristics of the monsters (Speed, Strenght, Critical chance, and Dodge chance - moreover, the Strenght can take negative values, which will weaken monster attacks!). The effects of the Curses are summarizable, so the more it will be imposed on the enemy, the greater debuff the enemy will receive. Also, in addition to passive effects, Curses can be removed, applying massive damage to your opponent.

OBEDIENCE


The second archetype: "Obedience" allows the player to control the mind of opponents, forcing them to attack their allies or even themselves. The power of attack depends on the new parameter that was introduced in the game - the rank of the monster. For example, regular enemies like Wolves or Possessors have the "Weak" rank, while larger and more dangerous monsters like Chimeras or Corpse Wagons have the "Strong" rank. Consequently, the more powerful the monster is, the stronger are the effects of Obedience. This is one of the most unique game mechanics we have planned since we started developing the game!

PHANTOM


The third archetype: "Phantom." Now you will be able to summon your own personal monster, who will protect you until his death! The Phantom cannot be attacked by most monster attacks and each move loses its health. Your servant can perform both simple attacks and more complex combat combinations. For example: Initially Phantom has only primitive attack skills, but with the help of cards of this archetype player can expand his skill set, giving the personal monster additional passive properties, such as "Defender", and even the possibility of treatment at the expense of the Health of a servant!

SHAPESHIFTER


In conclusion, we want to talk about one of the Magnus' most important features.

Each battle Magnus will begin in the human form of Jester, in which archetype Curse cards cost 1 less mana. For the fourth round, the character will be transformed into one of two random monstrous shapes - the shape of Wrath or the shape of Fear, each of which reduces the cost of cards corresponding to Magnus' archetype (Phantom or Obedience). This is valid for 3 rounds, after which the character returns to his basic form. It is worth noting that each of the three shapes, in addition to the positive effect, will also have a negative, so the player will have to constantly adapt to a specific combat situation. Due to the peculiarity of Magnus' gameplay, the need for a precise combination of cards becomes vital. There will be a lot of variations to achieve victory!

Magnus' release will take place at the end of December in beta format.

What does that mean?
  • Some content, like the art of cards, may not be available;
  • We will listen to the community very carefully;
  • We'll be balancing Magnus until the game's full release.

CHRISTMAS EVENT!



In the period from December 19 to January 2, the game has a 25% discount!

Snow has already wrapped the city in white shrouds, light frost tingles the cheeks, and the trees sparkle, covered with ice glaze. Houses are slowly decorated with beautiful garlands, and lush green Christmas trees are dressed up incredibly beautifully. Gifts are packed, socks hanging over the fireplace. Can you feel it? The Christmas Eve mood is in the air :)

Naughty Gift - a temporary in-game event, available from December 19 to January 10!


[h3]How to start an event[/h3]

To start an event, you need to click on the corresponding image in the upper right corner of the main menu. The event will begin as soon as you appear in the camp.

[h3]New Final Boss[/h3]

A new boss was added to the game: Krampus! He will replace Lady Death in a normal game mode. This boss is one of the toughest opponents we have ever created. Be extremely careful fighting him!
  • One negative effect at a time? This is for wimps. Krampus is able to simultaneously apply stun, bleed, and also cause damage to you, which completely knocks you off your feet;
  • Krampus is a very serious opponent, but not without his weaknesses. For example, by killing a monster summoned by him, a player can make a “Giblet Feast”, thereby restoring his mana.
  • You can also be hit by a bag on your head :)

A number of Christmas backgrounds has been added to the game, which will bring a celebration atmosphere to your game experience ːsteamhappyː

[h3]New achievement[/h3]

A new achievement was added in the game: Evil Santa. To get it, you need to defeat Krampus!

[h3]Badlands rebalance[/h3]



The hard path changes:
  • The level of monsters is increased;
  • The Lords of the Badlands (monsters from the latest patches) were buffed and now can encounter you on a hard path;
  • Now, for the victory over the Lord of the Badlands, the player will get one random stats: 1 Strength, 1 Speed, 10 Health, 5% Critical Damage, 5% Dodge chance.
Trophy changes:
  • (Then) Heart of Octavius: Increases health by 30. The player takes 30% less damage than any other damage. The player does 30% less damage. (Now) Increases health by 30. The player takes 30% less damage than any other damage. The Critical Damage Chance decreases to 0 until the end of the in-game run;
  • (Then) Keeper's Staff: Ash cards deal 100% more damage. At the end of the battle, it revives 1 card with the Ash property. (Now) Cards with Ash property deal 100% more damage. With a 20% chance, at the end of the battle, it revives 1 card with the Ash property.

Conquering new heights!



Dear friends, we want to share with you our little victory: steamhappy:

In December, we visited the coolest Kyiv exhibition GAMES GATHERING, where we presented the audience our incredible roguelike game Deck of Ashes :)

Everything went very well for us, and we sincerely hope that the players from the exhibition liked our game :)

At the end of GAMES GATHERING, we won the certificate "The best PC game on Unity" as the best game in the exhibition created in Unity.

We continue to work with a double rate. Very soon we will release: Christmas event and the new game character (beta-version) ːsteamhappyː

NEW GAME MODE: BADLANDS

[h3]What is Badlands? [/h3]

In this mode, you are left alone with a horde of monsters. The main goal is not to kill Lady Death, but to survive! You decide which of the three ways to choose!



Which is definitely not in mode:
  • resource extraction;
  • upgrading the camp;
  • cards' creation.


[h3]How can I play Badlands? [/h3]

You can start your run by selecting this mode in the menu after clicking the "Play" button



After choosing a hero and skin you start the run, which will end after winning the three levels of the Badlands or your death!

NOTE: The Badlands mode uses separate save slots from the campaign.

[h3]The Badlands' rules[/h3]

After each fight, in addition to gold and ash, you can get a potion, as well as choose one of the three cards that will immediately fill up your deck (bye-bye, recipes) ːsteamhappyː



The Badlands is divided into three paths.

Each path is distinguished by the complexity of the battles, the number of awards, as well as the number and ferocity of monsters.

Path's difference:

Hard path: at the end of the path an additional Boss will be waiting for you;
Middle path: the battle with the Lord of the Badlands awaits you - these are special monsters that only meet in the campaign in the relevant events;
Easy path: There are no additional complications. Use this way as a respite from the hard way.

Upgrading character's parameters

Now for upgrading character's parameters will be used special points - Sanctuaries! They will allow you to choose only one of the two attributes.

NOTE: the increase of parameters in the Sanctuary exceeds one-time upgrading in the camp by several times!



[h3]Unique mechanics of the Badlands[/h3]

After the battle with every boss, you take the trophy, a part of the monster's body. The number on the box containing the trophy means the Badlands level at which it was received.

These trophies are able to significantly strengthen the character and give him some of the abilities of the former owners (the Bosses' abilities!). But remember that everything has its own price. Each trophy has both positive and negative effects.



[h3]New Achievements[/h3]

With the release of the 199th update, 4 new achievements were added to the game.
  • Giant Slayer - defeat 4 Badland's Bosses in a single playthrough;
  • Burned Badlands - complete the Badlands as a Pyromancer;
  • Serpent's Badlands - complete the Badlands as a Rogue;
  • Bestial Badlands - complete the Badlands as a Warrior.
