Community Update

Greetings coaches,

In just two weeks from now, Blood Bowl 3 will release. We thought now would be a good time to take a minute to look at what has been done and what is yet to come. Let’s tackle it!

In the past year we focused a lot on the gameplay aspect of Blood Bowl 3. The betas were particularly helpful in this regard because we took a lot of feedback into account, listened to suggestions, and tried new things that we thought could improve the game (e.g., Formation menu, recruitment, camera improvement). In short, we are now confident that Blood Bowl 3 is the game you have all been waiting for.

However, although February 23 is the release date for Blood Bowl 3, it’s not the end of the road. It’s quite the opposite in fact!

While the gameplay is the core of the game, there are still many features and a lot of content that we plan to add to make Blood Bowl 3 even better.

● First, you will see all the improvements made to the core gameplay since the last beta. We’ve been working on several areas, such as the AI, animation, camera options, and different visual elements, among other things. We also fixed a lot of bugs, which will make the game more enjoyable.

● You will also be able to play the Blood Bowl 3 solo campaign: Clash of Sponsors. It’s the perfect way to familiarize yourself with all the new gameplay features, while having fun with the faction of your choice. In this new game, you can play the single-player mode with any faction.

Check out the solo campaign trailer:

● Regarding factions, you will be able to play all 12 factions of our starting line-up. Some are well-known, such as the Orcs and Elven Union, while some are brand-new teams making their first appearance in a Blood Bowl video game, including the Black Orcs and Imperial Nobility. Even if you participated in all our betas, it will be your first chance to try some of the new teams, such as the Dark Elves and Chaos Chosen. We can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

● You will be able to play locally and online against fellow members of the community or your friends in different modes. You can enjoy the league system by taking part in it and creating community competitions. Several competition modes will be available (Knock Out, Round Robin, Wissen and Ladder), you will be able to add from 2 to 128 players or an unlimited number in ladder, define the clock rule and the means of admission (free, ticket, invite-only). Even though some admin tools haven’t been implemented yet, there are several admin options to help you manage your tournament in-game, such as adding AI and kicking out teams.

● Fans of the Blood Bowl tabletop game who like to customize their teams will also be pleased to know that there are various options for making your digital team look unique. In addition to customizing your players with different parts and colors, many different elements can be customized, including the stands, cheerleaders, and even the dice! That means there are a lot of options for customizing your factions.

If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll already know that Blood Bowl 3 will primarily focus on the multiplayer aspect. We are convinced of its huge potential. Multiple features and tons of content are planned to keep the game up to date and the experience constantly refreshed.
We anticipate that most of you are eager to enjoy the competitive aspect and you might be thinking that season 1 seems so far away now. The teams are working hard to make it worth the wait.
As you know, Blood Bowl 3 will be based on a season system.

Check out our dedicated video:

Our 1st season is planned to kick off in just a few months. It will add features such as the Blood Pass, a new faction, the first version of our official Ladder, and many cosmetic rewards to unlock during the season.
We want to underline that it will be the first version of the Ladder. We plan to improve it a lot over time to make it fit with the competitive ambitions of coaches everywhere. So yes, we have big plans!

We’ve even more helpful features and tools that will come at a later stage. The further we look to the future, the harder it is to give specific dates, but we are preparing a roadmap to give you visibility on cool new features that we know coaches will love, such as crossplay and the spectator modes.

This roadmap will be revealed during a Dev livestream before release. It should give you a clear idea of the features to expect for the first year of Blood Bowl 3. It will also be the perfect chance for you to ask questions directly to our team.

We will be constantly working on the game. Of course, we anticipate there will be some bugs that need fixing, but more importantly, we want to continue developing new features and content to make Blood Bowl 3 better and better with each patch.

That’s it for today. We still have many things for you to discover about Blood Bowl 3 before its release, so stay tuned!

As the release slowly approaches, it might be a good time for a little recap!

Blood Bowl 3 | Season System Breakdown

Hi everyone,

A couple of days ago, we announced the new season system that will be in Blood Bowl 3. We are very excited about all the changes it will bring and how we believe it will benefit Blood Bowl 3 for many years.

We have taken the time to read a lot of questions and while we are very pleased with the overall reception, there’s a lot of feedback to take in and we want to make sure we answer all questions.

That’s why we will look at the system in depth in this news post and in the future. We want to break down everything and make sure everyone understands the season system inside out. Consider it full disclosure!

First of all, please watch this video if you haven’t already so you know what we are talking about:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
1 – Why do seasons last 3 months?
Three months is the right length of time to keep the game exciting and to give players enough time to enjoy the season’s content. We really want each season to have its own identity. This means strong, impactful new content that gives a real sense of a fresh experience.

It’s also important to consider the impact on the competitive environment that fresh or updated content, such as a new Faction or new Star Player, can bring.
2 – The Blood Pass
The Blood Pass will be linked to a season and its content will change every three months as well.
There are two versions of the Blood Pass:

a) The free version of the Blood Pass will allow you to unlock cosmetic rewards during the season for playing matches and the Faction of the Season for free if you complete the Blood Pass.

b) The paid version can be bought at any point during a season, and it allows you to instantly get the Faction of the Season and even more cosmetic rewards.

Note that the Blood Pass is retroactive, which means you can upgrade it at any time during the season and immediately get the rewards you would have unlocked with your playtime.

Also, each tier of the Blood Pass requires the same amount of experience (XP). It does not become more “grindy” as you progress.
3- Warpstone
Warpstone is the in-game currency. You can earn Warpstone by playing the game, as a reward for certain Blood Pass tiers, by leveling up, or by buying it directly.

With Warpstone you can buy cosmetic items in the shop, use it to buy the Blood Pass, and acquire factions from previous seasons.
4 – How do you progress through the Blood Pass tiers?
Our goal is to reward everyone for playing Blood Bowl the way they want to. All the main game modes (campaign, VS AI, official or private competitions, etc.) will allow you to gain Blood Pass XP, as all regular Blood Bowl actions in matches (passing, blocking, dodging, scoring) will grant Blood Pass XP.
5- Items from previous seasons
After a season ends, you will have another chance to get the Blood Pass items from that season. We want to give you the chance to acquire the cosmetic items you want.

This goes without saying, but the same logic applies to the Faction of the Season. You will always be able to obtain all the Factions that are playable in the game.
6- The competition
There will be an official ladder based on an Elo system in which everyone can compete. Each season the ranking will be reset, and you will get rewards according to your performances. This is the model we have chosen for Season 1. We will watch how well it works with the goal of improving the model for future seasons.

We will not go into too many details right now as the competitive aspect deserves a dedicated news post, which we will address in the future.
7- What about crossplay?
This a probably one of the most asked questions. Simply put, we are still working on it. It’s very unlikely that crossplay will be available at launch, but we will implement it as soon as possible.
8- Monetization:
Our goal is clear: We want to create an economic environment that will support the game for years and which allows us to develop new features and events, and keep the game relevant with new content.
We are committed to offering options that you won’t feel you need to buy to fully play the game. Excluding the new faction added each season, a player buying the base game will always have access to every mode and all gameplay content from day 1 to the end.

Also, we can already tell you that Blood Bowl 3 will be cheaper than the previous Blood Bowl games at release. The base game will be priced at $/€29.99 on PC.

That’s all for today! We hope it gives you the details you were looking for. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions in the comments. There are still many topics to discuss about BB3, the single-player campaign, the different modes, the competition, new features, and the factions themselves… Expect more info before February 23, 2023!
