Second Extinction - The Road ahead

Greetings, Extinction Elites!

The last 16 months have been quite the journey for Second Extinction. We released 7 Pre-Seasons, 6 Supply drops with additional fixes, added 3 new Dinosaurs, and introduced 2 new characters to our roster. We learnt so much about what you all love about the game and what you want to see added. It has been amazing to see over two million of you join the fight to Reclaim Earth - completing missions and contracts, contributing to the War Effort, and just having fun. 

Being an Early Access title has helped us immensely – allowing us to listen, adjust, and evolve Second Extinction based on your feedback and input. As a result, we have fixed tons of bugs and added plenty of new features and tweaks. Thanks to the incredible Second Extinction community and your feedback, we found both big and small aspects to be improved upon.

While we’re excited about how far we’ve come in this last year with our small development team, we believe Second Extinction still has room for improvement and we need some time to evaluate exactly how to get there. This is why we will be using the next few months to take a step back and assess how to best unlock Second Extinction’s full potential while remaining the game we envisioned when we started: A fun, crazy, fast-paced co-op Dinosaur shooter with interesting characters and an amazing environment to play in.

This means that during the next couple of months we will not be releasing new pre-seasons or other major content drops while the team focuses on the work ahead.

Everything else remains the same. We’ll keep you updated on our progress through our usual channels and on the Developer Livestreams on Thursdays at 4PM CET. These are a great way of interacting with us and asking questions, so please do join them on Twitch or YouTube; we would love to talk to you more over there!

We will also organize some fun community events to keep you entertained, so keep an eye out for those!

Supply Drop #6 - Patch Notes

[h2]Bug fixes[/h2]

[h3]Menu, HUD, UI, etc.[/h3]
  • Before, the sensitivity options sometimes didn’t save properly. This is now fixed.
  • The Cross-play info pop-up no longer overlaps with the War Effort update screen
  • The “Reset to Default” option works properly in the Gamma settings menu


[h3]Gameworld[/h3]
  • Fixed several issues where Dinos were stuck in spawn caves. They are no longer shy!


[h3]Performance[/h3]
  • Fixed a crash that happened when a player filled in incorrect credentials in the Apex Connect account creation screen


[h3]Weapons and Equipment[/h3]
  • A dino ate the “Adrenaline Shot” perk for the pistol before the last Supply Drop. It is available again. Don’t ask how we got it back.
  • Artillery Cannon works properly when equipping the perk "Direct Impact"
  • Weapon perks that cause the weapons to do critical damage are now functional

Supply Drop #5 - Patch Notes

This Supply Drop is intended to fix some of the most pressing bugs the players have been having since the release of Pre-Season 7.

Unfortunately, the Horde Mode Leaderboards couldn't make it into this one because there are still some issues we need to iron out first.

If you run into any issues, please let our support team know via our discord server, as well as giving us feedback about the latest Update and Second Extinction in general!

  • The objective "Recover the Drone" has been added for players starting the Expedition Mode for the first time to help them get started
  • Horde Mode is not accessible until the player reached level 3

[h2]Bug fixes

  • Players who log in for the first time will now be able to skip the first intro video at the price of hurting our video editor's feelings
  • The order of the mission cards in the main lobby has been changed
  • Fixed situations when players saw a black screen while loading for too long ⭐
  • The stats screen should now display correct numbers after session ⭐
  • Fixed an issue where the controller settings did not include all buttons
  • Fixed issue when friends playing a game are shown multiple times in the Apex Connect friend list

  • [Horde Mode] Fixed several issues when players were able to fall under the map

[h3]Characters[/h3]
  • Fixed issues when part of Rosy's model covered too much of the screen when using the Hand Cannon in ADS mode
  • Fixed camera shake when shooting the Artillery Cannon at close range

  • Fixed a crash issue during extraction in Free Roam mode

Multiplayer
  • Fixed an issue when one of the players got a "Mission Failed" screen when the team successfully completed the mission. Victory for all!

  • Fixed an issue where Auto-turrets quickly spin around when a player approaches them

State of the Game - December 2

Hi there, Extinction Elites!

This State of the Game will be slightly less data centric due to some complications with the Pre-season 6 community survey. Your feedback and input still came in, but we unfortunately can’t present them in quite the shiny graphs you are used to. So without further ado, let’s instead dive deeper into Pre-season 7 and where we are at right now:

[h2]What’s in Pre-Season 7?[/h2]
The standout additions in terms of content this time around are the Auto-Turret payload equipment and the Hand Cannon side-arm weapon.

The Auto-Turret is a very powerful addition to the payload roster. When used in an appropriate situation, it can deliver the highest damage output of any equipment thus far. Of course, use it in an inappropriate situation (such as right next to an impenetrable Flatback or indeed with minimal hostile threat around) then it can also be on the less effective side.

The Hand Cannon brings a whole new loadout style to the table. It is incredibly powerful from close range but only has 2 shots before the need to reload. This makes it a sidearm to pick and choose those openings and reload windows.

There has been a significant rebalance of all thrown and payload equipment for Pre-season 7, with a more scientific approach taken to balance the pros and cons across the board. Any equipment that you have written off as ineffective, we implore you to try again. The Healing Station being a prime example, it has now become a very strong loadout recommendation for those periods of needing to hold out around a certain location. The Thumper on the other hand can now be prematurely disabled by enough dino attacks on it.

Last point of note we’d like to make here is that we have taken further action on making the solo experience more forgiving and the multiplayer experience more intense. Multiple players already draw more attention whilst roaming around the world, but in Pre-Season 7 we now also scale how many dinosaurs arrive as Reinforcements to singular locations. This will be noticeable on many Mission Objectives, Activities, and of course; Extractions.

[h2]Horde Mode[/h2]
We hope you liked our first iteration of Horde Mode. We have been fixing bugs and making improvements based on what we have seen (including allowing extraction as early as wave 4).

The update on Leaderboards is that we were unfortunately still not happy with the reliability of the feature, so we are trying everything we can to confidently add them in our upcoming Supply Drop.

There is a huge amount we have been working on behind the scenes and very much look forward to sharing those details. In the meantime, as usual, we want to hear from you on any thoughts you have about the game as it is in Pre-Season 7, and what you want the future to hold.
