Tournament Mode Leaves Beta! V0.823


Tournament Mode is now available in the normal branch of the game. We fixed and improved a lot of things that you guys playing beta reported.

Leaderboard scores are now restarted as difficulty changed a lot during beta and some issues were fixed. So now’s your chance to get a really high place as we start from a blank slate! :)

32 achievements are now available as well.


Tournament mode comes with a feature to choose which gladiators will be showing up in the shop at the start of the game. This feature is now also available while playing normal mode.


What is Tournament (endless) Mode?

It’s an endless game mode with a focus on quickly building unique teams, completing rounds, achieving the highest score you can, and comparing yourself with other players or your friends.


You’ll start with the preparation round. After the first three fights, you will be given a reward where you can choose one of the 8 random powerful gladiators, each having two positive quirks.



After finishing the preparation round you will again have six regular fights. In between those, you’ll get a free gladiator or a free item reward. The round will end with either a Swarm Fight where you’ll be facing a big group of wild enemies or with a powerful Boss Fight. Defeating them will earn you powerful item rewards, then let you choose a new unlockable gladiator, and move you forward to the next round.


You’ll start with five lives, letting you lose 5 battles before the tournament ends.
Each fight will increase your score that will be uploaded to Steam Leaderboard where you can compare yourself with other players and your friends:

(Note that Steam Leaderboard is optional, and you can disable it if you do not wish to participate.)


You’ll have your personal best and last scores recorded locally.
There are three different leaderboard types. One for Normal game, one for Perma Death, and one for Total Score that sums up all the points you earned from each Tournament you played.
(Note: Higher the gold compensation for fallen gladiators in PermaDeath mode will earn you a lesser score per battle)

In case you are having trouble winning a fight there are two options to help you out. On the right panel, you have a button to give up your life for more gold and give your team a needed boost to win. Or you can pay gold to completely skip that fight.

Patch 0.811 - fixes, quirk balancing

-Continuing the tournament after leaving the game could sometimes cause a game-breaking bug where previously saved enemy team would not be loaded. Now fixed.

-Buffed a dozen quirks that were not very popular since they are situational or require some conditions until they take effect. Now they are more useful and interesting choices.

Tournament Mode Fixes, Improvements, and New Things - v0.810

Be sure to check if Steam updated your game to v0.810 (You can see the version in Main Menu at the left bottom side)

[h2]Fixes and Improvements:[/h2]
-Game freezing bug fixed
-Normal game enabled in beta - there were many bugs that would be caused by switching from the normal mode to the tournament mode. Now tested and fixed. But if you run into any that we didn’t notice ourselves while testing, please report on Steam Community or Discord.
-Blood and gladiator equipment over the Tournament arena are now removed at end of each round so the game doesn't start lagging from too many objects.
-Gold inflation was not working on some of the features like Skip Battle or Life For Gold. So it was too easy to skip unwanted fights and it was not worth exchanging life for gold because it would always be 300g. Now in each round things will get 50% inflation. So for example exchanging life for gold in round 6 is worth 1200g instead of only 300g. Making the feature useful.
-A looot of minor issues and bugs regarding Tournament Mode are fixed (Many of them were reported by you, so huge thanks for helping us out!)
-Balancing both enemy difficulty and levels of gladiators in shops. The aim is for the game not to be too hard at the start, but to get very hard as you reach later rounds. Tell us how the balance feels. Too hard? Too easy? Just right? How many rounds can you reach?

-Several units from quests are buffed so they are now more useful in tournament mode.



[h2]New Things:[/h2]
-Weather is now added to tournament mode and is changing in every next round you reach.
-Skipping Boss or Swarm battle now costs much more. So if you want to avoid a difficult battle you’d have to have some gold saved.
-If you choose to skip unlocking a new character for the shop at end of the round, you will now gain bonus gold for doing so.



[h2]Tournament Entering Main Game Branch[/h2]
-On 5th April we’re planning to merge the beta branch with the main game branch on steam. Unfortunately, we’ll have to reset the leaderboard once the Tournament is out of beta, because the balance is now different, and there are other factors that affected the score.
But if you played the beta and got familiar with Tournament, you’ll have the starting advantage and be able to get good scores quickly.

Thank you all for the feedback, bug reports, and for sending us your save game files so we could track down those nasty little bugs and squash them.
We’re very excited to release the Tournament Mode to the main branch, see everybody competing, and marvel at your scores!

Minor Tournament Beta Changes and Fixed v0.804

-Few fixes that might cause problems
-Skip Fight and Life for Gold are not affected by inflation (they cost or bring more gold as the game progresses)
-Skip Fight now costs much more if you want to skip Swamp or Boss fights.

We're still looking for that nasty bug that starts the tournament with a black screen. It has to do something with the previously saved game. If you do not feel like removing the saved game don't worry. We're working on it and will find a solution soon.
