Did you know? Some bears will hibernate in trees. Hollowed out sections of Quercus trees will provide long term shelter for bears and other creatures. Bears will even fatten up on the acorns to help them survive the winter.

Did you know that trees will sometimes employ ants in self defense? Some animals will consume trees or otherwise harm them. Predators who do not normally eat ants are usually irritated by their presence. In return for this somewhat passive protection trees will offer the ants a home and food that repels other insect predators. I wouldn't climb a tree with ants on it. Would you?

Did you know? That the oldest living tree (Methuselah) an ancient bristlecone is said to be over 5000 years old. It resides in the White Mountains of California in a National Forest. The exact location of this tree is kept secret so that evil people do not burn it down or otherwise harm it. Some speculate that the survival of this tree for so long is actually a genetic trait for immortality shared only by a few trees that can become immortal.

Also, did you know? The phrase "knock on wood" originated from a pagan ritual that involved tapping or knocking on trees to release the spirits trapped inside of them.

In 1971 an astronaut (Stuart Roosa) transported 500 tree seeds to the moon along with his luggage in Apollo 14. The seeds orbited the moon 34 times. Once the astronaut returned to Earth the seeds were distributed and planted. There are just a bunch of Moon Trees scattered all over the place!
