The Dragon Stadium

The time has come for a new arena for Super Buckyball Tournament! Until now, our friends Pink, Pai, R47 and Lang have been playing down by the harbour and they are ready to move up into the big boy’s league.

The original idea for the Dragon Stadium is to provide the characters with a more official-looking playing environment similar to real-life where football is played in the streets on fields all around, but the bigger and more official games are hosted in stadiums.

Below you can see our original concept for the Dragon Stadium

If you remember the Great Harbor Arena, you will notice that the atmosphere is very different. First of all, the Dragon Stadium takes place at night which contrasts the blue sky of the Great Harbor Arena. Second, this new stadium is more dominated by red colours and is lit up by spotlights. And third, the Dragon Stadium has a lot more fans standing around cheering you on while you are playing.

After having decided to make this stadium, we started from scratch.

Below you can see a picture of our stadium foundation.

The challenge we faced afterwards was then how to maintain the SBT feeling and atmosphere.
And so we started to design elements to give players the feeling that this is SBT.
Here you can see our concept art for the stage which is placed on the side of the stadium.

Based on this, it seems pretty obvious why it is named the Dragon Stadium

We have also added some tour busses for our characters to have a rest and checkup stations for them to test their equipment before the matches.

Below is the concept art for the blue team’s goal post.

And here is the concept for the red team’s goalpost

The blue head is supposed to be a tiger and the orange one is a lion. Since lions and tigers naturally do not exist in the same habitat, an ancient debate about who would win in a fight between a tiger and a lion is here a symbol to show the fight between the red team and the blue team.

Another interesting fact about the two goalposts is that on the tiger’s tongue is written “over the sky, NO1” and on the lions tongue is written “under the sky, NO1” this means that the tiger is the strongest in all the heavens and the lion is strongest on the earth. Pretty cool stuff eh!

We have also added a few squares on the ground in front of the goalposts to help the goalie get a feeling for his position in front of the goal.

Here you can see a few pictures of the final design of the Dragon Stadium.

We are pretty excited to bring this stadium to you in our next update and to put some more variety into the game. What are your thoughts?

More players

Hi everyone,

We know that there are issues on our western server with matchmaking since the current player base is a bit low.
We have been trying hard to grow the player base and we have new players coming in every day.
The problem is that many of our new players stop playing very fast because they find it difficult to matchmake with other players.

We just want to let you know that we are planning a few different campaigns to make a stronger effect of bringing in new people this month.
We are also arranging a tournament for you to give you some fun playing the game.

All in all, we just want to say thank you for your patience and for keeping on playing despite our current issues, and we are trying our best to find more new friends for you to play with.

Have a great weekend

Cash Prize Tournament

Hi Everybody,

We've had a lot of fun in China hosting tournaments and we‘ve seen our players get pretty excited about playing SBT on a more competitive level.
So, we want to bring a tournament to the west as well.
In China we've selected the top 24 best players from the leaderboard and given them a chance to fight it out in a 2-hour long tournament for cash prizes.
Since our western server lacks enough players to really get the leaderboard started, we've decided to make a signup list instead.

The teams will be decided at random and will be announced as soon as the slots are filled out.
After the teams have been decided we will announce the deadlines of when the games have to be played.
We'd ask the different teams to talk with their teammates and the opposing team about a good time to have the matches and then after they have been played report back to us who won.
If one team fails to show up, the other team will automatically proceed.

The tournament will have 3 rounds.
Round 1: 4 qualifier matches
Round 2: 2 Semifinals
Round 3: Final
The rules are elimination with every game being best out of 3 (BO3).

What are the prizes?
1st price is 50 dollars for each player*
2nd price is 20 dollars for each player*
3rd price is 10 dollars for each player*
*Can be given on Paypal or with a steam giftcard

The signup will be made in our Tournament Signup section of our Discord
Make sure that you and your friends sign up now before all the slots are taken.

Have fun and let us know if you have any ideas!

About Super Buckyball Tournament 5th Character
About Super Buckyball Tournament 5th Character
It has now been 2 weeks since we launched SBT into open development. First, we thank all players who have participated and played our game so far. We received a bunch of great player feedback and all the pressure u guys have given us has motivated us to work harder and to speed up the development process.

Last weekend, we hosted the first ever SBT community tournament in China. It was a small tourney between 8 teams, randomly filled up by the top 24 players in the leaderboard. The matches were awesome, and some good players are emerging. we’ve uploaded some highlights on YouTube. So yeah check it out to see how the best Chinese players are doing (Link).

What is very evident in the tournament and the overall gameplay from the last 2 weeks is that it is very difficult to play defence for most people and especially Pai and Lang are a bit OP at the moment. Especially there is a Pai player in the tournament who can turn and sprint while still in the air, then bypass the defence and score, not just in 1v1 situation with goalie, but even when up against 2 defensive players.

Even with strong goalie players, the offence still seems much stronger than the defence which puts a lot of importance on who is better at controlling and keeping the ball throughout the game.

We are now about to put more balance into the game. Not by making the offensive players weaker, but to add better defence.

Right now, R47 is the main goalkeeper for most matches. He is excellent at ball control and is pretty agile despite being such a large robot. In order to play R47 well, it mainly comes down to player’s individual controls (jumping, punching & positioning etc.) and technical abilities. Overall, R47 is not completed positioned as a goalkeeper, he’s just more suited right now due to his bigger size.

For some time, we have been working on creating a character that is better fitted for Goalie
by nature. This character would have to be big like R47 to easily block the shots, as well as having more emphasize on abilities to further increase his goalkeeping techniques.

Here is some initial concept for this character:

Obviously, the one with the shield won the vote and we started to make the concept into reality. Besides the whole batting thing is already used by R47.

Here were a few inspirations we had for the design

Here is some more developed concept art on this guy.

And finally, here we have the upcoming character, Bubba.
Yes, please give us all your Shrimp boat jokes! :P

When this guy comes out, a whole new variety of gameplay and fun will be added to SBT.

He will be part of the Main May Patch that is coming out sometime in May. More updates on the abilities and the actual date of his release is coming later. Stay tuned!
