Evil West will let you remove spiders if you’re arachnophobic

Evil West is one of the best games I’ve seen at Gamescom so far. The game – which only very recently caught a delay into November 2022 – is being developed by Flying Wild Hog (who you may know from Shadow Warrior and Hard Reset) and has seriously impressed me with its German showing this week.

But those impressions are for another day. In the meantime, there’s good news for players that are terrified of spiders – all 420 million of us. Our eight-legged ‘friends’ can be turned off completely in the game, if you so wish. And that’s a good thing, because there’s a lot of them in there – the little bastards have a connection to the unstable and arcane magic at the center of the game’s story, so you’ll find them nesting in many of the places you’ll need to explore.

Flying Wild Hog is the latest developer to factor arachnophobia into its production: back in 2020, Kill It With Fire allowed players to mitigate the spider-yness of the insects by turning them into things that looked more like soft toys. 2021’s Webbed (in which the main character is a spider!) introduced an option that instead turned your protagonist into a cute little blob with eyes, instead. Perhaps the most high-profile game in this sphere, Grounded, has had the option to turn spiders from eight-legged nightmares and into floating dual blobs since 2020.

Wild West God of War with guns, Evil West, is the latest game to suffer a delay

Evil West, one of the few games we were counting on playing next month, has been pushed back by two months. The game will now be released on November 22.

It's also been a little over two months since Evil Was was given a September release date, so we're hoping this is the last of its delays, because late November/early December release dates have a tendency to turn into Q1 of the following year.

Publisher Focus Entertainment broke the news on Twitter in a joint statement with developer Flying Wild Hog. The statement explains that because the game is coming out on five platforms spanning two console generations (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S), more time was simply needed to ensure the experience is polished on all of them.

Evil West's vampire-hunting cowboys delayed, but only until November

Evil West, Flying Wild Hog's third-person shooter about a vampire-hunting cowboy, has been delayed from its September release plans. If you're desperate to complete the unofficial trilogy of "____ West" games in 2022, then you're still in luck: Evil West will follow in Weird West and Hard West 2's cowboy boots by launching on November 22nd.

Evil West extended gameplay footage kicks ass

Evil West doesn't seem like it's getting the attention it deserves. The game didn't show up at any of the major Summer Game Fest events. Though we recently got our first look at gameplay, we were hoping for something more in one of the summer shows.

But now, Flying Wild Hog has thankfully delivered in a ten-minute gameplay look, with HUD and everything.

The video above is full of things to dissect and talk about. Evil West looks to have an interesting mix of melee combat and traditional shooting. Though it appears to be a shooter first, melee plays a key role in the flow of the action.
