DevBlog 03: Introducing Black List

Greetings Commanders,
In the world of Crossfire: Legion, Global Risk stands as the face of global civilisation, justice and advancement. However, not all are content with this. Black List opposes this “order” and competes to influence global events.

The fight has begun on our PC- Steam Store with our technical test. To gain access:
 • Click the request access button on our store page here.
 • Once a day we will approve players.
 • Keep checking your games library, it will appear there once access is given.
 • Launch and have fun.
 • Use our Discord to find other players.

Today we’re taking a look at our second faction, Black List. Their play-style significantly differs from Global Risk. Read on to discover what kind of commander you will become.

Black List formed as a secretive break-away mercenary group by members disillusioned with the corrupt policies of Global Risk. This opposition, and the notoriety of some extreme elements within the organization, sees Black List often labelled as the “Bad Guys''.

The continued outrage at local and global economic inequalities allows Black Lists to recruit not only from militias within worn torn countries, but also highly trained former special operation agents. As a result, Black List organizations are spread throughout the world and no one knows their true hierarchy, but they are all united by the ideology of violently protecting the weak and preventing the corporate excesses of capitalism.

Occasionally, Black List accepts contracts to settle disputes from high profile countries and clients, who often simultaneously offer those same contracts to Global Risk. However, it is through the many small contracts from poverty-stricken nations, private investors and their less than legal activities, that Black List is primarily funded. Whether you consider them terrorists or freedom fighters, the influence of Black Lists on world events cannot be ignored.

A fast moving hard hitting faction, Black List relies on speed and guerrilla tactics to be effective. This, and their use of unconventional weaponry, keeps their foes off balance and uncertain of what to expect next. However, what they have in speed and power, they lack in durability. Taking head-on engagements with this faction is not recommended.

Each with their own talents and attributes, you will get the job done by choosing from these three commanders.
Black List Commanders:

Phoenix:
The secretive Phoenix became the leader of the Black List faction after turning the guerrilla organization into a coordinated fighting force.

Ghost Core Ability: Deploys an Outpost using Ghost Kit technology that provides a passive healing field to all nearby units.

Ghost Recall Ability: Teleports own forces in the target area to the Ghost Core Outpost and temporarily causes them to enter stealth so they can’t be targeted by enemies.
Freefall:
Freefall is a master of Ghost Kit technology which she utilizes to misdirect and debilitate her enemies. She can stealth allies and make enemies more vulnerable to damage.

Ghost Zone Ability: Deploy a field that temporarily causes allies to enter stealth for a short duration. Allies can still move and attack while hidden, but can’t be targeted by enemies.

Acid Rain Ability: Douse a target area with corrosive fluid for a limited time. Enemies in the area move slower and take additional damage from attacks.
Stalker
Stalker commands a vast mercenary network of local militias. Using these ground connections he is adept at infiltrating Shadow Operatives behind enemy lines.

Guns For Hire Ability: Deploys mercenaries to any location, but they leave the battlefield soon after the fighting is done.

Shadow Operative Ability: Deploys a Shadow Operative to the target location whose lightning fast attacks can damage all enemies in the target area for a limited duration.

DevBlog 02: Introducing Global Risk
Greetings Commanders,
The world of Crossfire: Legion is shaped by the competing ideologies of Global Risk and Black List. Conflict has once again erupted between these two factions. Each has their own style and methods for dominating the battlefield. You will come to master these, however all will be shaken up with the arrival of a new faction to the battlefield.

The fight starts on our PC- Steam Store with our technical test.
To gain access:
 • Click the request access button on our store page here
 • Once a day we will approve players.
 • Keep checking your games library, it will appear there once access is given.

Today we’re taking a look at our first faction, Global Risk. Get to know their play-style and maybe see what kind of commander you will become.
Global Risk
Global Risk is a mercenary organization commissioned by world governments to settle global cases and disputes while maintaining their control over the planet's resources. They style themselves as the “good guys”/counter-terrorist faction that stands in opposition to the forces of Black List (We’ll explore them in the next DevBlog).

Global Risk was founded by former members of special operations forces to end meaningless war and bring justice. With these objectives always in mind, Global Risk is legitimized by larger states, but are not limited by their clients' inefficiencies. Relying on their military expertise and corporate dominance, Global Risk is rich in funds and technology that they use to further solidify their status as the keepers of global order.

Global Risk’s combat strategy relies on maintaining distance from their opponent. They have a wide range of specialized units which, when used together in combined arms, can be a deadly combo to deal with. Using their numbers and relentlessness, Global Risk often finds that by the time one wave has nearly fallen in battle, a second has arrived and is ready to provide support.

Bringing their own twist to the doctrines of Global Risk, you will choose from these three commanders.
Global Risk Commanders:

Cardinal
is the “fixer”, the commander to turn to when all seems lost. A veteran, who rallies troops to fight more effectively. He knows not to let emotions get in the way of the mission, but struggles to keep his calm.

Fire At Will Ability: Launches an artillery barrage into the target area. The rounds deal massive damage to any enemies or structures caught in the blast radius.

Rally Ability: Targeted area grants a temporary rate-of-fire bonus and heals friendly units.
Eclipse
is Cardinal’s XO. She grows more pragmatic about the difference she can make in the world, but believes in Cardinal’s ability to lead Global Risk to victory. She specializes in quickly maneuvering her troops to capture key objectives or set up ambushes.

Mobilize Ability: Target unit gains an aura that gives it and friendly units a temporary speed bonus. The boost is increased when the unit(s) are out of combat.

Suppressive Bombardment Ability: Calls down a precision bombing run on the target area, dealing massive damage to enemy ground units.
Warden
initially took the reins of Global Risk, he’s defensive specialist who can quickly deploy fortifications to protect his troops.

Forward Operating Base Ability: Deploys an artillery base to the target location. This self-destructs when its energy runs out. Nearby Field Defensive fortifications deploy a turret while the base is present.

Field Defense Ability: Deploys a fortification that reduces incoming damage to nearby allies. The fortification is temporarily upgraded with a weapon when a Forward Operations Base is nearby.

The first chess pieces are falling into place and intel is being gathered. Inform yourself and join in as we reveal more by finding us here:

That’s all for now, but don’t forget the roadmap of what’s to come. We’re ploughing our way towards Early Access in the Spring of 2022.

We’ll be back with a look at Black List on Tuesday January 27th. Until then, stay tuned to our social spaces, get to know the community and prepare yourself and your friends for the battles of tomorrow. Remember, hesitation is your first enemy and your choices will decide the outcome before the 1st shot is even fired.

DevBlog 01: Here’s Crossfire: Legion

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Greetings Commanders,
and welcome to a modern RTS which focuses on tactical actions during furious battles that are spread across a shattered version of the near future. RTS warfare is entering a new frontier!
Who we are?
Before setting out to conquer battlefields anew, we must learn from where we came. Crossfire: Legion is being developed by RTS legends Blackbird Interactive (Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and Homeworld 3) and published by Prime Matter (Iron Harvest) with Smilegate Entertainment (Crossfire). We’re all excited to be expanding and energizing the Crossfire Universe, one of the most played games ever (look it up here). We hope you’ll join us.
What to expect?
In Crossfire: Legion, you’ll raise and customize your army as you prove your command abilities during intense multi-player combat, A.I. skirmishes and our globally-scoped single-player campaign. Whatever your preferred playstyle, Crossfire: Legion will have something for you as you take on this ultimate fast-paced real time strategy game.

Prove your abilities in a variety of online multi-player game modes as you manage resources, consolidate a base and send your army to annihilate your enemies. Crossfire: Legion will test the full range of your abilities and drive you to learn new ones. All armies are led by a Commander; choose wisely because they each bring special commander abilities to the battlefield which just may turn the tide of battle.

Prepare yourself and ascend the multi-player leader boards. Improve your tactics by reviewing your last battles using the built-in replay system. Your input will drive multiplayer as we hone the game with you by responding to your feedback and incorporating your balance suggestions.

In the near future of the Crossfire universe, society is crumbling. You’ll fight atop skyscrapers, dig into a bayou and infiltrate heavily defended military bases as you get to know the main characters and goals of all three rival factions. The world is yours to conquer in this narrative-driven campaign.

Team-up with friends to vanquish the A.I. in Operations. Work together to ready your assault on enemy positions or defend your own. You’ll be in full control over the composition of your army. Choose between the three factions and customize your unit roster so that you can guarantee victory.

Create and share your own maps and modes using the level editor tool, or expand your RTS experience by browsing the Steam Workshop to find unique community-made challenges. You will be heavily involved in shaping the future of Crossfire: Legion and we cannot wait to see what strategies you’ll devise and maps you’ll create.

This will be added during Early-Access campaign later this year.
Intense Game Play:
The core gameplay elements of Crossfire: Legion are army composition, strategy, teamplay and control. Master these and you will dominate.
 • Army Composition: Firstly, decide which faction you will choose, then what units you will bring into the match. Which commander will you play as and then consider how all these work together to suit the play style you prefer.
 • Strategy: Your army composition and Commander will inform what strategies you can execute due to their specialties and the unique abilities of your Commander. Timing and judgement will be your key skills here.
 • Teamplay: How will you then coordinate your strategy with your team? You’ll need to think carefully about how your units will interact with other units from other factions in order to overcome your common foe.
 • Control: Efficiency is key, players must control their individual unit on a micro level to get the best out of them. Engaging enemy units by utilizing the most effective manoeuvre and smart decision making is paramount.
