Dream Flash Demo 16 Out Now

Dream Flash Demo 16 is finally out! This is a massive update that includes a brand new gameplay feature that I've been teasing for a while. If you want to experience this fresh I recommend playing the update right now, if you don't care about spoilers keep reading.

The state feature has finally been added to the game. The soul can now transform into stronger states that each have uniquely devastating new ways to deal damage to bosses.

I am very satisfied with how this update came out. I have been waiting to add this feature to the game for years. Now that it's finally in the game I can say that the game is much closer to being finished. I estimate that the game is currently 65-70% finished.

Thank you to everyone who plays this game and actively anticipates new updates. You keep me motivated to keep going!

Dream Flash Demo 15 Out Now

Dream Flash demo #15 is now out! This is a pretty big update that finally includes the fourth stage of the game, along with 5 new bosses. There are also some new champion variants to existing previous bosses as well as touch ups to a few other existing things. Check out all the changes below:

I am very happy with the state of the game at this point. Each run now feels pretty "complete" as you go through room to room and chapter to chapter facing increasingly harder bosses until the end. The game is going to feel even more complete with the next update, which will add a new major gameplay feature that I've been planning since before I started working on this game.

We are definitely starting to get close to the end phase of development for Dream Flash. Thanks for playing, and look forward to the upcoming updates.

Dream Flash Demo 14.6 Out Now

Dream Flash Demo 14.6 is out. This is a medium sized update that has a new soul sprite, optimization to performance, new artwork for 40+ items, and reworks to a bunch of items. I also worked on some back end stuff for demo 15, which will be coming out towards the end of April or in early May.

As stated previously Demo 15 will be a big update that adds the fourth stage to the game, 4-5 New Bosses, and an end game boss to stage 3. There also might be some new additions, like sub zones to existing stages.

Here's a preview into what y'all can expect, look forward to it!

Dream Flash Demo 14.5 Out Now

DF Demo 14.5 is out everyone! I added a bunch of stuff that people have been asking for like a working controls menu, a working expanded map with fast travel, and some other quality of life stuff. I also redesigned and remade 2 bosses that were particularly lame before. They are now less lame and actually fun to fight and look at. Some other bosses got graphical updates and also new fight variants. My goal is to slowly touch up on any bosses that need it, while mainly focusing on adding new boss fights.

This update was pretty necessary so I'm glad I got it done. After this I'm focusing mostly on new content. The next two planned updates are going to be very good and will contain features that I've been planning for years now. Demo 15 will finally add the fourth stage to the game, expect some ludicrously cool and difficult boss fights there. Demo 16 will add the elusive 'State' stat to the game, which has been teased since demo 1.

Thanks for playing the game, I hope you enjoy this update and look forward to the upcoming updates.

Dream Flash Overall Development Update/Info Dump

Yo its ramaf. It’s been more than a year and a half since Dream Flash entered early access on steam, and more than two years since I started working on Dream Flash. It's been a long journey so far and the game has come a long way. It’s insane looking at footage from demo 1 of the game and comparing that to how it looks now. However, we still have a long way to go before I am done with all of the planned content and am truly satisfied with DF. I’d say that we have only recently passed the 50% completion mark.

This may seem like a low percentage for two years of work, but this game has a massive amount of content already and has a massive amount of content planned. In addition to this I’ve been working on getting a degree while also working on this game and other side projects. Other things in life have been eating up dev time and I cannot say that dev will be going much faster from here on out. I will however say that development will continue to be consistent and that the game will continue to get better and better over time. All of the coolest planned features have yet to be added.

I am quite satisfied with the progress that the game has made in 2020. I managed to remake all of the art myself, and have successfully animated and redesigned all 54 bosses that are currently in the game. In 2021 I plan on focusing primarily on new content so look forward to that. In order to speed up development on the game I’ve been reassessing what's necessary and what isn’t. I’m gonna try to lean more into the idea of working smarter instead of harder, while still working hard.

Game Content so Far:

- 54 Bosses out of 100+
- 85 Weapons out of 120+
- 175 Items out of 300+
- 3 out of 4+ Stages
- All of the core gameplay features, except for a secret one coming soon

I’ve revised the weapon goal from being over 150 to being only 120. The reasoning for this is that many weapons in the game felt like they were just slightly different copies of other existing weapons, so I’ve actually removed/combined about a dozen weapons from the game already. I’d rather focus on making less weapons that are more fleshed out and cooler than simply adding a large number of them. I also realized that less weapons are necessary than I had originally planned because planned future features will give the soul much more variety in its build.

For the immediate future I’m planning on fixing/adding a bunch of features that I’ve been neglecting. Stuff like real sound effects, a control menu, better UI, and overall improvements to game mechanics to make the game really feel like an actual presentable game. After that I’m gonna spend most of the dev time on just adding as many bosses as possible while also working on implementing a massive feature that has been held secret. It will completely change how you play the game.

Thanks for playing Dream Flash, I hope you look forward to everything I have planned for it.
