Dream Flash Overall Development Update/Info Dump

Yo its ramaf. It’s been more than a year and a half since Dream Flash entered early access on steam, and more than two years since I started working on Dream Flash. It's been a long journey so far and the game has come a long way. It’s insane looking at footage from demo 1 of the game and comparing that to how it looks now. However, we still have a long way to go before I am done with all of the planned content and am truly satisfied with DF. I’d say that we have only recently passed the 50% completion mark.



This may seem like a low percentage for two years of work, but this game has a massive amount of content already and has a massive amount of content planned. In addition to this I’ve been working on getting a degree while also working on this game and other side projects. Other things in life have been eating up dev time and I cannot say that dev will be going much faster from here on out. I will however say that development will continue to be consistent and that the game will continue to get better and better over time. All of the coolest planned features have yet to be added.

I am quite satisfied with the progress that the game has made in 2020. I managed to remake all of the art myself, and have successfully animated and redesigned all 54 bosses that are currently in the game. In 2021 I plan on focusing primarily on new content so look forward to that. In order to speed up development on the game I’ve been reassessing what's necessary and what isn’t. I’m gonna try to lean more into the idea of working smarter instead of harder, while still working hard.



Game Content so Far:

- 54 Bosses out of 100+
- 85 Weapons out of 120+
- 175 Items out of 300+
- 3 out of 4+ Stages
- All of the core gameplay features, except for a secret one coming soon

I’ve revised the weapon goal from being over 150 to being only 120. The reasoning for this is that many weapons in the game felt like they were just slightly different copies of other existing weapons, so I’ve actually removed/combined about a dozen weapons from the game already. I’d rather focus on making less weapons that are more fleshed out and cooler than simply adding a large number of them. I also realized that less weapons are necessary than I had originally planned because planned future features will give the soul much more variety in its build.

For the immediate future I’m planning on fixing/adding a bunch of features that I’ve been neglecting. Stuff like real sound effects, a control menu, better UI, and overall improvements to game mechanics to make the game really feel like an actual presentable game. After that I’m gonna spend most of the dev time on just adding as many bosses as possible while also working on implementing a massive feature that has been held secret. It will completely change how you play the game.

Dream Flash Demo 14 Out Now



DF demo 14 is finally out! In this update all 51 previous bosses in the game are now fully animated and redesigned. In addition to this there are 3 new bosses that show up on the third stage of the game. I also added a bunch of new items and made better art for half of the existing items. There are also some general improvements to other aspects of the game.

This update took longer than planned due to some life stuff that I had to take care of. The next update should take about a month and will be focused on making the game more 'presentable'. After that I will be focused almost entirely on just adding new content since I don't have to spend half of dev time animating previously added bosses.

Dream Flash Demo 13.5 Out Now

Dream Flash Demo 13.5 is out now! This comes with a bunch of general improvements to several bosses, weapons, and items. In addition to this there are some new room types to mess with.

This update was more quality of life focused than anything else. The next update will be mostly a content update in addition to just generally making the game look better. It should be done by the end of November. We are almost done with remaking all of the old bosses which is exciting as it means I can focus on entirely new ones and other cool stuff.

Dream Flash Demo 13 Out Now

Dream Flash Demo 13 is out now! There is a variety of new things such as new bosses, improved existing bosses, and improvements to weapons and backgrounds.

The next update for Dream Flash should be done by the end of September, the goal is to improve existing content and finish up adding animations for the bosses in the third stage. I am getting very close to finishing this art remake which will speed up the amount of new content I am able to add. Expect completely new cool things in every update from here on out.

Dream Flash Demo 12.5 is out now! This update includes lots of stuff such as improved bosses, a new boss, new environments, and a bunch of other general changes and improvements.

The next update for df will continue with the trend of improving existing bosses and content. I also plan on adding some new bosses and other types of new content.
