Question from blue-cosmos: I’m wondering if/how we can find out more about the history of the world?
We know a bit from Lucy as she teaches the kids, as well as bits and pieces from what the Portians say or the festival dialogues, however I would really like to know more and have the history of the different countries!

To add to that:

Plenty of Sandrock history will be revealed, of course. Presently I can say that we've fleshed out the old world/age of darkness more. Many of the characters in Sandrock are from other places in the my time world and should have plenty to say about their hometowns...

This may be a bit of a broad question, but are there any Sandrock characters that you guys are particularly excited to work on? Or alternatively, are there any Sandrock characters that have become favourites amongst the staff at Pathea? 😄


Answer from Dave:
My favorite characters to write are in no particular order: Burgess, Qi, Pen, Elsie, Cooper, Yan, Grace, Unsuur, Justice;
Mengyao (the cooler writer) likes Unsuur and Qi, she says Xuzhi's (our super-awesome director’s) favorite is Fang;
General favorites around the office are Pen, Yan, Burgess, Mi-an. But we love them all

Oh no! We can't say we can't pick the favorite one! The entire team has been debated this over and over again! Almost we're going to fight for this thing, and everyone gots their own favorite characters, someone likes Mi-an, because she is pretty kind and cute; someone likes Owen because he is super warm... And someone like Burgess, because he is doing hard work to protect Sandrock... So everyone gets different interests, and every character is adorable, so we like them all.

Will the new game, MTaS have a height slider? One of the things I noticed in MTaP is that the male player characters are shorter than some of the female NPCs. Will this be implemented either in MTaS or MTaP?

Sorry, we won't add the height option. We'll preset their heights according to their backgrounds.

When you change your hair colour in game, is it meant to be hair dye out of a bottle, or some sort of genetic manipulation? Wondering because any kids you have match your hair colour at the time of birth, not matter when you changed it

Answer from Yang:
Hahaha, the kids' hair colors and even skins are randomly generated, it's not about what your hair color is...that's kind of a fun part we wanted to play with. But we may have a better design or new plans to improve the experience in Sandrock.

On the occasion of beautiful autumn arriving, let us welcome what is changing in Sandrock.

[h3]Enhanced Sand Drawing[/h3]
One important aspect of a relationship, be it platonic or romantic, is that people can have fun together! The fun pastime of drawing pictures in the sand together is shared across the Eufaula Desert, reiterated in Sandrock with enhanced gameplay! There are two modes of Sand Drawing in Sandrock: you can either choose to follow the NPC as they run across the sand, creating a path for you to follow, or you can collab with the NPC to draw together at the same time.

[h3]A new, non-gender-locked hairstyle and new default face shapes have been added! [/h3]
We’ve planned a wider, more diverse range of default face shapes to help you design your characters, helping you be who you want to be and stand out in Sandrock! In addition, we’re trying to design a way for you to share your beautiful face and character with other players so that they can use your design in their game!

What’s more, we’re continuing to add more hairstyles that can be chosen by both genders! Here’s the latest new hairstyle:

Good food never fails to bring people together, and as the new Builder in Sandrock, cooking is the secret weapon that can not only help you make more friends, but also help you explore further in Sandrock. So you should experiment with the 4 new types of cooking machine models (wok, pot, steamer, and oven) to try to learn as many recipes as you can!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Hi, Builders! Let’s share a little culture!



As you may know by now, Pathea is a Chinese company.

So, until the 21st, we’re taking some time to enjoy quality family and friends time for the Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhōngqiū Jié), also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival. This is the second-most important holiday for us, second only to the Lunar New Year. Picture festive red lanterns, fancy mooncakes, and smiles with your loved ones! 🥰

Hotfix patch of Beta

[h2]Hey, y’all! [/h2]

Here’s a hotfix to fix some minor issues before we get back to working on the next update! Aiming for updating in late October.

Fixed:
  • Fixed the falling issues where players go out of the house in Spring
  • Fixed the disappearing issue of the lover UI in the relationship menu
  • Fixed the name of abandoned ruins
  • Fixed time display of stores on the map
  • Fixed Pen's cape disappearing
  • Fixed the incorrect description of Sand Rice from 4 days to 3 days
  • Fixed the issue where Burgess asks for Watering Can
  • Fixed bug where the doorway light’s location did not change after the player's home moved
  • Fixed the issues getting stuck when players don't have enough gols during the play date
  • Fixed bug where the Sandrunning weekly pass don't cost money
  • Fixed the weekly pass doesn't work after loading the save
  • Fixed some floating rocks
  • Fixed incorrect tips while the museum booth is empty
  • Fixed some collisions with ground buildings at the entrance to the Paradise Lost
  • Fixed the issue where the text box repeatedly shows while you meet new friends
  • Fixed the missing collision issue in the green house
  • Optimized the loading time

Super simple: why aren't demos a permanent fixture? I hesitate to buy Portia bc Im not sure if I'll like it, but because of Sandrock's demo, I'm planning to buy Sandrock when it comes out.[/h3]

Answer from Sarcosmic:
We're developing Sandrock a lot beyond what's in the demo, so in the future, that first Story Demo won't show Sandrock at its best. It was originally only meant to be available during Steam Next Fest.

What has been the most memorable or pesky bug from the series so far?[/h3]

Answer from Dave:
I mean, we hate the crashes the most, losing a whole day of progress is awful. Very excited to finally get the Portia console fixes out soon

But, as for the fun ones in Portia: I like when the cows get half buried, I like when townsfolk go for underwater walks, and I also enjoy peoples' reactions when they end up with multicolored Shrek children. Oh yeah, and the eyeballs popping out thing in Sandrock is always a good time

September 12 update:
You may have noticed the console updates are out now! We're aware there are some new bugs (like the Desert Abandoned Ruins one on Switch), which we’re gathering info on now and will address soon. If you want to report a bug, email us at [email protected] with a detailed description and the platform you're playing on!

I love exploring every nook and cranny of Portia & Sandrock demo's gorgeous maps/worlds, but find it frustrating when you can't interact with a door and realize it's just for decoration (beautiful decoration, mind you :-) Will there be more freedom to roam around in both games?[/h3]

We'll design more interaction and exploring methods, please keep eyes on us for more!

Post-AMA answer from Sarcosmic:
By the way, the map for Sandrock is the same physical size as Portia’s (2km square), but there’s a ton more to explore in the overworld this time around. Exploration isn’t the main focus of Sandrock, but it’s a fun part of it and more traversal options (gliders? grappling hooks??) are currently under deliberation. There’s also lots more character to each interior and exterior so that you can get to know the setting and NPCs more just from the spaces they inhabit. As a Portia fan, I’d say Sandrock’s map is already shaping up to be pretty memorable - and there’s more to it than just sand and rock, haha.

There also are many interactable features around the map! There’ll be fun mini-games like an item-matching game, sand sledding, and dune buggy racing, and you can repair/collect things after the sandstorms, tame animals, and more. So much more.
