Bungie wants Destiny 2 PS5 players to know they might be playing the wrong version

In a recent blog post from Bungie, it's come to light that a "notable" number of Destiny 2 PS5 players aren't actually playing the right version of the game.

Back in 2020, Destiny 2 players were treated to a next-gen port of the game, which didn't add anything new, but did boost the game to a higher resolution, 60 frames-per-second, and fasting loading times. This was something both PS5 and Xbox Series X players could upgrade to, should they be lucky enough to own a console at the time. Except in the latest This Week at Bungie blog post, the developer is giving PS5 players a "heads up" about the fact a non-zero amount of players are playing the PS4 version of the game (thanks, Kotaku).

See, the thing with the PS5 being backwards compatible, is that Sony has done it in a way that isn't all that clear. Say you buy a game that is on both PS4 and PS5 through the PlayStation Network. You can actually download the PS4 version of the game to your PS5, if you wanted, and it seems like a lot of Destiny 2 players have been doing that by mistake.

This Week at Bungie - 11/03/2022

This week at Bungie, we have a little chat about Guardian abilities and the next step of evolution. With a little side of candy, naturally. It is the last week of Festival of the Lost, after all.

This week, we’re diving deeper into what’s next for abilities with the arrival of Season 19 next month. It’s good to reflect sometimes, but it’s also important to not stay in the past. So come with us on a nifty little journey, if you will, into the world of abilities and where they've been, where they are now, and where they're going in the near future. We’re also teasing a new dungeon that’s ready to rock for next Season, a message to our console players, and another shot at shaping the next weekend of Trials of Osiris.

Bungie responds to player complaints over weapon crafting grind

The latest This Week at Bungie post grapples with one of the Destiny 2 community's hottest topics: Weapon crafting. Specifically, the balance thereof. For an inveterate Destiny addict such as myself, the addition of crafting has been a net positive, enabling me to build a perfect arsenal, painstakingly curated with enhanced versions of the exact perks I want. For less committed (some might say saner) players, the process of tracking down crafting patterns and then leveling up the weapons can be time-consuming and tedious...

The fantastic sound of Destiny's new anime sniper rifle was years in the making

Destiny's a game with great feeling weapons, ones you're willing to spend hours of time grinding for, but the recently introduced and incredibly anime-assed Mechabre sniper rifle has made an especially big splash. Bungie sound designer Juan Pablo Uribe highlighted his work for the gun on Twitter, and was kind enough to explain some more of that process to us via email...
BOO!
Did I scare you? Doubtful, as I’ve tried this trick in a TWAB before.

Happy Festival of the Lost, Guardians. As tradition, we’ll start with a quick recap of what’s going on in the wild. Headless Ones are roaming Lost Sectors on the hunt for Ghosts, but you’ve already taken up the task of cleaning house. Between a Voltshot roll on the Legendary Mechabre Sniper Rifle or some spicy perks on previous FOTL weapons (Kill Clip BrayTech Werewolf, anyone?), there’s some fun loot to earn, too! We’ve already seen a few gilded Ghost Writers in the Tower, and we can only hope they’re sharing some of the candy they’ve been earning. We’ve also been running some fun fashion and art contests for players. Towards the end of this article, you’ll see a few awesome creations from our players.

So, what’s on deck for the TWAB this week? Crafting's on the mind. We have some fun news on deck for next Season in the Deep Stone Crypt, and we’re looking at some long-term goals that the team is planning to execute for Lightfall. We’ll also be discussing some important information around Stadia and Cross Save, followed by Bungie Bounties and a Prime Rewards refresh.

Let’s get to it! Follow the jump for the full article.
