Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost unlock times

Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost returns once again but this year, things are a little bit different. There's some spooky new loot to get your hands on, of course, but you won't just be blitzing your way through the Haunted Forest as usual. The event begins at the Destiny 2 weekly reset later today, but as Bungie has been surprisingly tight-lipped this year, details are a bit thin on the ground. With that in mind let's take a look at everything we know about the Festival of the Lost 2021...

Destiny 2 will remove Forsaken campaign and the Tangled Shore next

Bungie have announced plans to remove the Forsaken expansion's story campaign from Destiny 2, shuffling it into the Destiny Content Vault along with the Tangled Shore location. The Dreaming City will stay, thankfully, and Bungie also plan to pull some old content back out of the Vault. Before Forsaken vanishes in February, it will become free for all players from December. And hey, Battlegrounds mode is becoming a regular fixture!

Destiny 2's Forsaken campaign and the Tangled Shore are going away

Bungie has offered an update on its unpopular plan to gradually vault old Destiny 2 content to make room for the new. Next on the chopping block is the game's beloved Forsaken expansion.

The developer announced that the Forsaken campaign and The Tangled Shore destination will enter the Destiny Content Vault (DCV) on February 22, the launch day of the game's next expansion: The Witch Queen. This also includes all of the Year 4 seasonal content, including The Presage and Harbinger Exotic missions.

The Dreaming City, however, will continue to be available as a destination. Not everything in Year 4 will be going away, you'll still be able to jump into The Proving Grounds strike, The Warden of Nothing strike, as well as The Battlegrounds activities. Bungie is also combining Battlegrounds with strikes in the new Vanguard Operations playlist, which will be available for free to all players on February 22.

Destiny 2 is removing another destination and an entire campaign next year

The Destiny Content Vault, launched in 2020 with the Beyond Light expansion, is a place where Bungie can store "less actively played" destinations and activities. According to the studio, the Vault is necessary so that it can add new content without making the game unmanageably bloated. When the Vault first went live at the start of Destiny 2 Year 4, Bungie moved Mars, Io, Titan, Mercury, the Leviathan, and pretty much all their associated content went into it. Today we learned that in February 2022, when Year 5 gets underway, the Forsaken campaign and Tangled Shore destination will also be added to the vault. Which is to effectively say deleted from the game. The Dreaming City location, thankfully, is being spared for now...
