This Week at Bungie - 6/23/2022

This week at Bungie, we’re prepping for even more Trials of Osiris, this time with the return of Freelance so that solo players can get their pew-pew on. We’ve also got more patch notes to go over, as well as some mental health resources because we know the Season of the Haunted storyline can get a wee bit hefty.

I don’t know about you all, but the Haunted storyline continues to hit us right in those feels. These are some heavy themes and players from all over the world have been sharing how the ongoing narrative has connected with them and their own stories. Because of that, we just want to make sure you are all OK, so if you would like any help when parsing through those feelings, we’ve listed some helpful resources for you further down in this TWAB. Use them or don’t, your choice but the option is there. Eyes up, Guardian, your mental health is important.

As mentioned, we’ve got some patch notes to go over, including which known issues are being tackled first and which need a little more time baking. For now, let’s just dive right into it with another weekend of Trials of Osiris. To read more, check out the full blog post here.

Destiny 2 cheat creators cough up $13.5 million to Bungie for damages to copyright

Nearly a year since Bungie first filed a lawsuit against cheat provider Elite Boss Tech, the illicit company has agreed to pay $13.5 million to the developers of Destiny 2 for infringing on their copyright. As first reported on by TorrentFreak, this marks the conclusion of a long and costly battle for the defendants, who have found themselves suddenly strapped for cash (which is a good thing).

The company, including named defendants and several anonymous creators and providers of cheats, are also permanently banned from further creation or distribution of any software that infringes on intellectual property belonging to Bungie.

As to how the lofty $13.5 million figure was reached, an agreement between Bungie and Elite Boss Tech had the latter party admit to thousands of violations of the Bungie DMCA software present in Destiny 2. Since the software which breached this DMCA was downloaded 6,765 times, with each violation representing $2,000 in damages, those figures multiply to reach the total amount.

The latest big thing in the Destiny 2 community? Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

If you’ve been hanging around the Destiny 2 subreddit over the past few days, you may have noticed the latest thing taking the community by storm. This time around, everyone’s got their thinking hats on as they try to determine the outcome of PvP scenarios in “Who Wants to Be a Glimmillionaire”.

This, of course, is a play on the famous game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, where a question and four potential answers are presented to contestants in the hopes they can figure out the correct option. In this newfound Destiny 2 version, the community has had to take a look at a bizarre or ambiguous PvP scenario and determine what the outcome will be.

This all comes from the mind of Reddit user No_Consequence_9647, a longtime Bungie fan who has been invested in the series since the original Destiny. With the sci-fi FPS as their main game ever since they got their hands on it, No_Consequence started creating gaming related YouTube content alongside another friend they met 16 years ago.
