Cyberpunk 2077 celebrity showdown: who's got the cooler character, Idris Elba or Keanu Reeves?

The celebrity voiceover in a bigass RPG is no longer the quaint novelty of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion's sleepy Patrick Stewart performance or Liam Neeson showing up for a cheeky ten minutes in Fallout 3. Cyberpunk 2077 broke new ground by having Keanu Reeves' Johnny Silverhand be your constant companion throughout the game, and expansion pack Phantom Liberty gets similar mileage out of beloved actor Idris Elba as secret agent Solomon Reed...

CD Projekt used speech-cloning tech to revoice a dead actor in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty features AI used to replicate a deceased actor’s voice

The Polish language version of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion features a recreation of a deceased actor’s voice made using AI technology.

As reported by Bloomberg, the game’s developer and publisher CD Projekt has revealed that it used artificial intelligence to help create new lines for ripperdoc Viktor Vektor. The Polish-speaking iteration of the character was portrayed by VA Miłogost Reczek, but then passed away in 2021, leaving the developer with decisions to make regarding how it’d approach Vektor’s part in Phantom Liberty.

Rather than simply having someone else take on the role of V’s cyberware-tinkering friend in the DLC, which would possibly have led to a rerecording of the character’s base game dialogue, CD Projekt instead opted to use voice-cloning software called Respeecher to modify a new actor’s lines, with the aim of having them sound like Reczek.

Cyberpunk 2077’s misbehaving passive skill effects can now be fixed with a mod

After a number of players began to notice that some of Cyberpunk 2077’s passive skill effects weren't working as intended for them in saves made following the arrival of the game’s 2.01 patch, a modder has stepped up to rectify the issue.

As we previously reported, a number of the minor buffs bequeathed by progressing up the ranks of skills like Headhunter and Shinobi aren’t kicking into action as they should in saves made in the latest version of the game. Naturally, Night City’s mercs, many of whom have recently returned to delve into the Phantom Liberty expansion or start a fresh playthrough of the base game now that its 2.0 update has been deployed, haven’t been too happy about this development.

While there’s a good chance CD Projekt Red is already working on a fix for the issue, especially given how many people have taken to social media to post about it, a modder has released a fix that you can grab right now if you’re not in the mood to wait.
