Announcing Wild Mutations and 10% discount in the Steam Summer Sale!

Hi Everybody,

We are proud to announce the first free upcoming DLC for Monster Train, WILD MUTATIONS. This will be releasing soon but we wanted to give you a taste of what’s to come right now and share some interesting info. First, if you haven’t picked up the game yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? It’s now 10% off during the Steam Summer Sale!

Second, we’d like to congratulate our contest winners who helped share their ideas for the best mutations. Huge thanks to you all for our ideas and inspirations to help with this DLC. Will the winners please reach out to us for their free OST code?

- Fred Jones with Volatile Spells: All spells have random targets
- SpaceNewt with Hive Mind: All of your units share their unit type with all of your other units.
- Takisse with Triggered: All abilities trigger an extra time (both players and monsters), so things like slay, summon, resolve.

Now, on to the DLC.

Prepare to spend more gameplay hours in game, beat more challenges and use more super cool mutators. For those of you who already reached covenant level 25, we have new challenges that make your runs even more interesting. But this update isn’t JUST about mutators, it also includes some nice and often requested quality of life additions to the search options for competing on other runs.

Details below:
- over 30 new mutators for use in all run types
- view and join the top dev and community challenges to test your skills on a rotating series of the hardest and most played seeds
- use all mutators on single player runs
- added new logbook achievements for completing covenant 25 challenges
- biggest balance patch yet (patch notes are available in the community section or ingame)

Additionally, you’ve seen the multiple patches with bug fixes and balancing changes since launch. This will, of course, be a continuous effort that will not waiver long term so keep hitting that F8 button when you encounter something to share!

Thanks for continuing to share the game, play and report. We hope you enjoyed this brief glimpse into the roadmap for the immediate DLC plans. In the meantime, check out the FAQ with some gameplay secrets and tips you haven’t see here, stop by and watch our weekly Thursday Stream here and we’ll see you soon with Wild Mutations!

Sneak peek at our first free content update for Monster Train

We see you all enjoying Monster Train and climbing the covenant levels. While you all have been playing an insane number of runs, we also have been quite busy. We have patched the game to fix some bugs and did some small balance tweaks to improve the game (check our patchnotes for details). As we will keep supporting the game, we also are preparing for releasing new content.

In the background we are preparing for our first free content update for Monster Train. We got a long list of cool features and ideas for new content to extend your Monster Train runs in single and multiplayer. Painfully we have to make choices as we cannot do everything right away.
For the first update we are discussing new surprising mutators and more ways to extend your endgame experience. More news on the free content next week!

Mark from Shiny Shoe already showed some in the weekly dev stream if you like to have a sneak-peak. Check it out, as Mark also answers a relentless flow of community questions about new content and our plans for future content and features. Check it out here. Our Discord servers were on fire when we asked you the community for input for new mutators. So many reactions and suggestions, just amazing. The winners are seriously considered to be included in the upcoming free content update!

Next week we will share more about the new free content update!

Monster Train Patch 1.0.10

June 11, 2020
1.0.10 (Build 9400)

Note: we're adding a more player friendly versioning scheme from now on in addition to the build number. This is the 10th patch since launch, so we're calling this update 1.0.10.
  1. AUDIO - added a "mute in background" option to mute the game when the window doesn't have foreground focus.
  2. AUDIO - added a keybind to mute the game.
  3. MULTIPLAYER - added an option to "hide player names" for people who don't want to see usernames or avatars from other players. Instead of showing their actual names and avatars everyone is a Train Steward.
  4. TEXT - changed how Wickstone refers to the Burnout gain to avoid confusion with Combustible Wax.
  5. BUG FIX - fixed a rare bug that could cause a unit to disappear forever in battle after it died.
  6. BUG FIX - fixed a bug where in certain situations your Logbook's progress tracking for champion upgrades would not save correctly.
  7. BUG FIX - fixed a bug where if you quit the game right after leveling up and unlocking a new card it wouldn't count as discovered in the Logbook.
  8. BUG FIX - correctly hide the HUD if you go to the Logbook from Run History and then come back.

Launch discount extended to June 4th

More than 1 million runs have been done to battle the forces of Heaven since launch one week ago, congratulations to you all! It has been a fantastic launch week for us and we have seen you all having a blast on Twitch with Monster Train.

To celebrate the million runs, we have some amazing news, all discounts are extended! This also applies for the extra discount for all Slay The Spire owners.

Going forward, we’ll be consolidating the weekly information share primarily to Thursdays. This means the weekly Q&A streams will now move to Thursday at 11AM PDT- 8PM CET - 2PM EDT. Make sure you catch Mark Cooke, the CEO of Shiny Shoe, the developers of Monster Train, to answer all your gameplay questions. We will also be moving the patch notes to be published through the official Patch update feature in Steam on Thursdays.

But patches won’t tell you what your Imp’s favorite food is or how those cats became merchants. For that, we have an AMA with Redbeard, the loremaster of Shiny Shoe. Join Redbeard on Reddit this Friday May 29th at 15:00 PDT.

Big shout out to all you fans who have reviewed the game on Steam. It’s heart-warming to see the amount of super positive reviews, thanks you so much! If you haven’t reviewed the game yet, please do so! You are doing us a huge favor and will help us build up the Monster Train community even more.
