Monster Train on-the-go

Hello Lovely Community!

It’s been a minute since we shared a regular update with you. We've been hearing that you want to take Monster Train on-the-go. With that in mind, we’ve been playing Monster Train on the Steam deck! As you may have read in our discussion post here, out of the box, we got the game running except for the intro video which wants to play upside down 🙃. PC Gamer recently did a test of their favorite games for Steam Deck and, of course, Monster Train was included. Here’s their assessment if you want to read MORE.

Here’s a preview of what Monster Train looks like on the new hotness! While we don’t anticipate any issues, please do let us know in the thread above to report any major bugs as you play Monster Train wherever you like. We’d love to see your fun photos so don’t forget to share with us on Twitter there.

Speaking of on-the-go, we’re excited to finally be able to share that the team has been focused on the mobile space for some time. We’ve been keeping quiet since we don’t have confirmed information to share yet. However, know that we’re deep into development on a global launch for Monster Train on (REDACTED) where you can take Monster Train to even more places and can’t wait to bring the game to everyone. We’re also looking into even more options, so stay tuned as we get closer to sharing news on this front and have solid dates for you.

We want to thank you all for continuing to play, sharing your love for Monster Train, and for supporting the team while we were quietly working hard on this. It was tough not to reply to your requests and comments to play Monster Train on more devices and spoil that this was happening! As always, we appreciate you and can’t wait to see you playing Monster Train everywhere you want to go.

We are happy to share with you some news for our Chinese players!

Monster Train Patch 2.2

October 7, 2021
2.2 (12905)

  1. BUG FIX - addressed a case where the second of two Concealed Caverns follow-up events triggering at the same time could be skipped if the player clicked the mouse quickly as the second event starts.
  2. BUG FIX - Mark of a Champion now ignores Sap when it calculates its bonus. One place that came up is while facing Seraph the Temperant.
  3. BUG FIX - fixed incorrect spawn locations sometimes being chosen for Remnant Host, Legion of Wax, Bog Chrysalis, etc. The incorrect situations came up when 2 or more units in the room died on the same turn.
  4. BUG FIX - For The Greater Good can no longer be cast in the Pyre room.
  5. BUG FIX - fixed Cheater's Hand softlock when zero cards are drawn. This is an extremely rare situation.
  6. BUG FIX - fixed a rare softlock with Bog Chrysalis' synthesis effect in certain situations.
  7. BUG FIX - cards no longer get stuck on the screen when going back to the main menu during card animations like Rector Flicker's reform ability.
  8. BUG FIX - fixed rare issue where visual effect particles were bright pink.
  9. BUG FIX - fixed keyboard/controller input issues when you resume straight into post-battle victory from the main menu.
  10. TEXT - changed The Last Divinity's Purify text to say: "Removes all damaging debuffs from this unit at the end of turn." This more accurately describes how it works.
  11. TEXT - fixed two cards with the same name in German - Fortify / Reinforce. Fortify became "Rüsten."
  12. TEXT - fixed German mistranslation of "imp" on description text for Imp-in-a-box. Now "kobold."
  13. ENGINE - fixed a variety of memory leaks when going in and out of battle.
  14. ENGINE - changed how certain types of data load so that there isn't a long load time if you resume a run on the map and then immediately open a unit banner. Or when you resume a run into the victory UI at the end of battle and then open a unit card pack. Now this data loads during the black load screen instead of just before it's needed.

This update will be coming to our other platforms in the future. As soon as we are able to get builds tested and certified.

Edit - Oct 18, 2021 - the change to fix spawn locations sometimes being incorrect for Bog Chrysalis caused other unexpected problems and was reverted in version 12912.

We need your help! And we are celebrating!

Hello Community, have you missed us?
Here’s a short update on what the Monster Train team is up to right now below:

Last week, we had a livestream announcing that we have something secret that’s coming soon but we can’t really share many details. More vagueness here from our own mouths:
LINK

However, we’re planning another stream on August 5th to expand on this a bit more. If you’re curious, tune in here at 10am PT/ 1pm ET/ 7pm CET.

We need your help with this!
We’re also gathering information to help us shape the future of Monster Train and we’d like you to continue this journey with us by sharing your input. Please fill out this short survey and let us know!

We are collecting entries until next Thursday July 29th.

We’re thrilled to announce that Monster Train is nominated for a GIGA award in 2D character design! The Global Industry Game Awards (GIGA) are peer determined awards in celebration of the contributions of discipline teams and individuals. Game industry award shows do not focus on the achievements of the individuals and discipline teams within our industry, so GIGA is an opportunity to turn the spotlight on them instead and we’re so fortunate to be a part of that! Huge thanks to the IGDA (International Game Developer Association) for the nomination. Vote if you're a member!
