Beauty Post Launch Update - Patch #2 Notes


We have been listening to feedback from our recent v0.1.4.7 Beauty Update, and this patch contains fixes to various issues brought to our attention, in addition to some new items requested by the community. Thank you for your support, and for playing Legend Bowl!!

📢 Thank you to everyone for reporting issues and bugs from this last update!

Patch Details
  • Quarterbacks no longer wait forever to throw the ball to a receiver or run.
  • Quarterbacks move a bit more when in pocket so they're not just standing like a statue the entire time.
  • AI calls less tight formations based on pass percentage to avoid short down plays when yards are needed.
  • AI calls less screen pass plays as they seemed to common for our taste.
  • Fixed issue when AI would punt instead of kick a field goal on 4th down when well within field goal range.
  • Defenders will dive less based on skill level when on an island to help lower blown catches for touchdowns.
  • Bumped up AI throw power by 10 to get more bullet passes during a game.
  • Fixed issue where injured player sequences makes game get stuck causing player to quit game.
  • Fixed crash bug that would occur on certain onside conversion situations.
  • Defensive clock management AI improved to not wait for clock to run down before calling timeout during pre-snap.
  • Attempt to fix hurdle or any ball carrier move looping on field.
  • Fixed Quarter issue where season and tournament quarters would get set at incorrect time when 1st quarter starts.
  • Fixed field goal distance calculation error that was off by 16 yards.
  • Optimized code in hopes of increasing performance across the game.
  • Removed depth chart from pause menu during special move training camp due to -1 values and bug crash.
  • We finally have a credits screen to thank everyone involved with making the game.
  • Fixed issue where players on roster screens weren't blinking.
  • Fixed PF and PA values doubling when collecting team stats.
  • Fixed issue where setting a starter during a match was broken.
  • End zone text no longer draws above zoomed out play route art on field.
  • Bumped up the volume of referee whistles.
  • Slowed camera down pan speed after player drops ball during the end of a play.
  • Team rankings display when choosing teams in new season screen.
  • Now you can toggle ball/player icon in replay screen.
  • Aligned depth chart buttons to match roster screen.
  • Attempt to fix issue where ball gets fumbled close to out of bounds and defender dives on it but the field doesn't flip sides.
  • Fixed graphic bleeding issue in end zones so the blurriness should be gone now.
  • Added 2 new stadiums to the game.
  • Over 30 new advertisement banners added to stadium walls and match intro and pause screens.
  • Advertisements will fluctuate based on team's performance during a season.
  • Attempt to fix bug when quarter ends and players get stuck in weird animations.
  • Removed away team coach from field when in Tutorial mode.
  • Stats ticker show team abbreviation vs full city names to more easily recognize teams.
  • Stats ticker shows random advertisement and includes a logo now.
  • Attempt to fix random crash bugs reported from community.

Patch Details
  • Fixed issue where player gets injured while scoring a touchdown and game stutters with players stuck running around.
  • Fixed random bug where game would crash after completing season game.
  • Fixed an issue when saving team single game records that would cause a crash because of invalid record value.
  • Fixed issue where players would freeze after exiting replay screen.
  • Attempt to fix issue where extra players are showing in replay.
  • Bumped up tipped ball catches because they seemed to almost never happen.
  • Fixed issue where stats ticker would repeat "Season Stat Leaders" text when no season stat leaders existed.
  • Added sound effect for when sprint button is pressed to give the user some feedback.
  • Touched up a few stadium shadows.
  • Added weather line to stats ticker.
  • Swapped "Freedom Field" with "Great Lakes Stadium" names as they were backwards.
  • Attempt to fix issue where cpu goes for onside conversion and bug occurs when human selects defensive play.

We always release at least a couple of follow-up patches after each Major Update, to respond to feedback, fix remaining issues, and make additional improvements.

Patch 0.1.4.7: The Beauty Update!
Legend Bowl is officially getting close to releasing on Steam and getting out of Early Access. We've had a blast getting feedback from the community and the game has really taken shape, especially when it comes to the on field gameplay improvements. We are so excited and fortunate to have such an awesome fan base helping to make Legend Bowl the best football game it can be!

Highlights

The last major patch was called the Beast Update and so we thought it would only make sense to call this one the Beauty Update because it has really added a ton to the customization and gameplay aspects of the game. Much of what you use to be able to only do through modding the backend files can now be done inside the game and there are many new settings to help tailor your experience to be great!

Note: 📢 Please checkout this customization video if you plan on modding the game with this new patch.

Important: 📢 This patch will delete any custom rosters, seasons, or settings you may have created in the previous version. You've been warned! ːsteamfacepalmː

  • Various gameplay improvements and fixes included in this patch to give the game an even bigger lift on the field.
  • Onside conversions have been added to the game so you can take a shot at getting the ball back when you're down. The ball will be placed on the attempting team's 35 yard line and it's 4th down and 15.
  • New player card screen added to depth charts, player stats, and more. This screen shows you a high quality display of any player with match and season statistics.
  • New fantasy points player stat column used for ranking top performances.
  • New stats ticker shows during a game with the top match stats and season stats along with stat leaders, game results, and upcoming game schedules to give you more immersion during a match.
  • New single game records added to keep track of your best game records after every match.
  • AI playcalling is more intelligent and chooses plays more aggressively when down late in the game.
  • New team editor customization options to give you more control over your teams.
  • The crowd has been overhauled with all new team colors, animations, reactions, dynamic density, and more!
  • A huge library of team logos have been added to the game, along with special endzones to tailor your teams.
  • The entire sound library has been upgraded to 3D environmental sounds so you hear sounds relative to their position on the screen. For example, a player's footsteps will be heard in the top right corner of the screen or even off the screen based on their position on the field.
  • Players now have voices in the game and even trash talk to add more immersion on the field.
  • Crowd sounds and overall ambience on the field has been improved with all new sounds to make the game come alive.
  • New playoff tree screen to show playoff teams in a bracket style presentation.
  • New cloudy weather option to have scattered showers that dynamically appear during a game.


Patch Details

[h2]Gameplay[/h2]
  • Improved defensive AI logic to chase after ball carrier more effectively and avoid bad reactions or pursuit angles.
  • Onside conversions have been added to the game so you can take a shot at getting the ball back when you're down. The ball will be placed on the attempting team's 35 yard line and it's 4th down and 15.
  • Coaches are now more aggressive during the last play of game situations.
  • Blocking wrestling bar has been tuned to be easier and more aligned with difficulty settings.
  • Fixed issue where cpu controlled running back would sometimes stop at the line of scrimmage for no reason.
  • Fixed issue where newly controlled player would make a move without user pressing any buttons.
  • Now receivers will run random routes after a random number of seconds upon completing their intended route.
  • Fixed issue where penalty yards would add up even though the line of scrimmage is already backed up to the goal line.
  • Improved AI playcalling to more aggressively handle 4th down decision making.
  • Potential fix added for game deadlock bug when multiple banners appear back to back like 4th down and then two minute warning or timeout.
  • Potential fix added to resolve hurdle face direction flipping issue.
  • Fixed issue that can happen where QB basically just dropped the ball and the ref never ran to pick it up after the snap.
  • Fixed potential issue where ball would fly passed QB or Kicker during hike sequence when pausing game at the same time.
  • Controller vibrations have been heavily tuned so now you can feel the hits, throws, catches, kicks, etc during a game.
  • Defenders now dive instead of just brushing off the ball carrier when the defender is not able to tackle due to skill dice roll.
  • Fixed ball throw accuracy issue that caused very inaccurate passes when throwing into endzone.
  • Fixed out of bounds issues when catching the ball or running near out of bounds.
  • Fixed issue where quarterback couldn't perform ball carrier moves when in run mode.
  • Fixed football depth issue that would cause the ball to fly through field goal posts.
  • Fixed issue where blockers spin around while chasing defenders.
  • Fixed issue where ball carrier gets injured when scoring a touchdown and game stutters.
  • Removed off field injuries like stomach cramps from occurring during a match.
  • Fixed first down and line of scrimmage drawing across the goal line issue.
  • Attempt to help fix the issue where the runner gets stuck behind line.
  • Fixed issue where game would stall after 2 min warning notification appears during a match.
  • Throwing a perfect pass or kicking a perfect kick at 100% of the bar now has a cool effect to give feedback to the player rewarding them for a perfect play.
  • Inaccurate whiff passes no longer occur on perfect 100% passes giving users more control when performing perfect passes.
  • Kicking power bar now appears in the middle of the field on the same level as the kick arrow in order to keep the player's eyes focusing on the same location, instead of having to move from the arrow down to the kicker/punter.
  • Fixed issue with coach moving when player gets injured.

[h2]Customizations & Settings[/h2]
  • There are now 66 team logos to choose from in the library so you can make more custom teams than ever before.
  • There are now 120 custom end zones to choose from along with custom text you can add per endzone with custom fonts.
  • There are now 38 stadiums to choose from giving each team's home field a unique look.
  • Team Settings page now includes images of stadium and field options to better illustrate what options you have to choose from.
  • New team captain logos will now be displayed on player screens.
  • Player Editor now allows you to edit Captain, Age, Years Experience, Morale, Popularity, Leadership, Loyalty, Winner, Greed, Intelligence, Work Ethic,
  • and Popularity options.
  • New fan animations added to crowds which give more accurate reactions based on game events.
  • Fan density changes based on team record and overall rating.
  • Fan hair, skin, gender, clothes color changes based on teams playing during a match.
  • New stadium advertisements added to walls and dynamically change during matches.
  • Player Editor now displays a "Y" or "N" for captain and earring settings vs a "1" or "0" value.
  • Player traits changed to use 0 - 99 scale.
  • Added the ability to toggle between team name, city, and city abbreviation in playoff picture and team standings screens in season mode.
  • New screen flash, blood, vertical sync, stats ticker, season stats ticker, player field label, player stamina bar, weather effects, joystick deadzone, and fan size density setting options to help tailor your experience in a game.
  • Settings have been polished to show descriptions of what each setting does in the game.
  • Resetting settings to default settings is now an option when you want to revert back to the main default settings of the game.
  • New cloudy weather option to have scattered showers that dynamically appear during a game.
  • Settings no longer save to file when changed on team select screen or in game. Settings must be changed on the main menu in order to stick after exiting the game now.
  • Fixed crash bug when resetting jersey colors.
  • Team colors for helmet, helmet stripes, and facemask are now limited to their color files which also fixed color values changing after setting them in the editor.
  • Team colors "Stripe 1" label changed to "Outer Stripe" and "Stripe 2" label changed to "Inner Stripe".
  • Fixed issue where RESET ALL would not reset team color boxes unless you moved out of the settings menu.
  • All input controls can now be mapped to any key on the keyboard.
  • Ability to play two players with the keyboard and single gamepad using the new keyboard co-op setting.
  • Team helmet colors now controlled by team colors instead of an actual image file. The helmet logo part is still coming from an image, but just lays on top of the helmet.

[h2]Sounds[/h2]
  • The entire sound library has been upgraded to 3D environmental sounds so you hear sounds relative to their position on the screen. For example, a player's footsteps will be heard in the top right corner of the screen or even off the screen based on their position on the field.
  • Players now have voices in the game and even trash talk to add more immersion on the field.

  • Auto subs expanded to allow for 0% subs now.

[h2]UI[/h2]
  • New player card screen added to depth charts, player stats, and more. This screen shows you a high quality display of any player with match and season statistics.
  • New fantasy points player stat column used for ranking top performances.
  • New stats ticker shows during a game with the top match stats and season stats along with stat leaders, game results, and upcoming game schedules to give you more immersion during a match.
  • New single game records added to keep track of your best game records after every match.
  • Most valuable player can now be viewed at the end of a game.
  • Field stat messages show more relevant stats based on outcome of play vs just random stat messages.
  • Touchdown stat message now pops up along with drive summary popup so you can see who scored on the play.
  • Team audible icon only displays when you can actually audible now and only during human games.
  • End zone artwork has been remastered with more accurate perfect pixel dimensions and has had a complete face lift in terms of designs.
  • Fixed team stats showing percentage symbols in incorrect columns.
  • Fixed sorting issue when viewing rosters and stats.
  • Advertisements added to various screens during a match.
  • Player skill values max out at 99 now instead of some at 100 now.
  • Updated button UI placement location issues.
  • Team Settings is now called Team Editor in the menu.
  • Fixed loading alphas for various buttons on screens.

[h2]Season Mode[/h2]
  • New playoff tree screen to show playoff teams in a bracket style presentation.
  • Playoff team logic tuned and minor fixes were done to ensure best record teams have home field advantage during each round of the playoffs.
  • Playoff picture screen now sorts the Division leaders section to better illustrate what seed they are in the playoffs.
  • Airplane flyby added to game intro during legend bowl championship games.
  • Fixed faulty SIM engine code logic that would cause players to have XP attempts erroneously upon other issues with stat tracking.
  • Fixed issue where players would get injured more during simmed games accidentally.
  • Fixed SIM engine bug that was going straight from punt phase to normal phase due to missing break line. This was causing bogus XP stats when the team never even scored.
  • New stats ticker shows on career screens to see stat leaders, game results, and upcoming game schedules.
  • Fixed a bug during the loading of the newspaper screen.
  • Fixed issue where standings grids had shortened widths causing output errors when saving stuff to grids.

[h2]Misc Bugs & Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed issue where game's day time color would change when cycling through pause menus.
  • Gamepad icons now show correctly when playing Tutorial mode now.
  • Audible button now draws over top of the field starters overlay.
  • Added popup to skip tutorial for newcomers.
  • Player footstep debris colors now change based on field color for more authentic look.
  • Fixed issue where field goal would appear when viewing depth chart or player stats screens during a game.
  • Default difficulty settings now set to NORMAL instead of being set to EASY by default.
  • Depth chart changes during a game no longer affect the global roster upon exiting the game.
  • Fixed Steam achievements unlocking erroneously without actually completing achievement.
  • Export stats now have PID and Fantasy Points in file.
  • Added field texture to grass around perimeter of field for grass games.

Team Improvements Update

This patch includes a list of gameplay improvements across the game based on feedback from our community and some new additions we really think you're going to really enjoy! Continue reading to learn more about this update!

[h3]Team Settings[/h3]
You now have a way to edit team information and settings in this update! You'll have the ability to edit team names, cities, stadiums, fields, grass types, weather, run play call percentages, and base defenses. These changes fit nicely with the previous updates to gameplay settings where you can set "Team" specific preferences in your game to match the team's settings. We're super excited to see what creations you will bring to your roster!

[h3]Audibles[/h3]
Have you been sitting at the line wondering why you picked the play you're in and can't go back because you've exhausted all of your timeouts? Well now you can audible out of your current play and choose a preselected play from your current formation.



Curious how this works under the hood? The first thing we try to do is find a run or man play (right), screen or blitz play(top), standard pass or zone play (left), and a quick pass or deep zone play (bottom). If the current formation doesn't have one of these plays in their list, then we grab a unique random play from your formation set, so you have 4 plays to choose from.

You can bring up the new Audible screens using the Y button (XBOX) or the "W" key and can cancel out of the audible by selecting the same button if you wish to keep your current play. Keep in mind, once you change your original play, there's no getting it back. You will be left to choose any of the 4 audible plays, so be mindful when calling audibles.

[h3]Defensive Coverages[/h3]
Defenders were allowing big plays at times because they were stuck strafing for too long and not keeping up with assigned receivers. Now defenders will turn and keep up with the receivers much better and also play more intelligently to avoid those huge plays. They will also intercept and break up passes at a higher rate in this update. We would love to hear your feedback on how you like these changes, so be sure to keep us posted on our Discord!

Another small, but beneficial item was a change to the play art color for SCREEN plays to now be purple, instead of the normal orange color. This was to easily distinguish between run vs screen plays and we hope this solves any confusion out there when viewing these types of plays!



[h3]Patch Details[/h3]
  • Offensive and Defensive audibles can now be called during the presnap sequence.
  • New Team Settings page now allows you to edit cities, names, stadium, grass, and more inside the game now.
  • Fixed longest pass stat popup showing passing yards as opposed to passing long stat.
  • Kickoff and kick return players now run based on play call direction (Left, Middle, Right).
  • CPU will auto skip if playclock is under 10 seconds to avoid delay of game due to huddle sequence taking too long.
  • Restructured team logos to be compiled inside of game to improve performance when not using custom rosters.
  • Fixed issue where players would move to incorrect locations during the scrimmage lining up phase after huddle.
  • Fixed issue when tapping sprint button when GASSED and still able to sprint.
  • Bumped up defensive coverages for more interceptions and pass break ups.
  • Screen plays now display as purple instead of same orange color to better distinguish between run and screen plays.
  • Team play calling stats have been revamped for more accurate stat tracking of plays called during a game.
  • Settings changed to normal difficulty by default now.
  • Miscellaneous bugs & fixes.

Gameplay Improvements Update

MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ROSTER FILES IF YOU WANT TO PRESERVE ANY MODS.

  • Modified Atlanta Beasts and San Francisco Miners uniform colors, which resets your roster files.
  • Added new AI to manage clock better during quarter ending situations.
  • Auto skip automatically occurs when CPU is controlling ball and trying to conserve clock.
  • CPU play calling AI improved for situations when down big against opponent.
  • CPU will now reassign an injured kick returner or punt returner to next fastest player (if any exist in same position) automatically on the field.
  • Accelerated play clock no longer runs down inside of 2 minutes during 2nd and 4th and beyond quarters now.
  • Fixed issue where chain gang showing during replay.
  • Fixed Single Wing Ohio play issue where receiver was missing receiver icon.
  • Fixed crash bug that would occur when deleting career files from a long list of files.
  • Fixed player stat issue where longest yard stat would be well over 99 max yards.
  • Resolved issue where clouds from previous update weren't being created correctly.
  • Players who fall now stand up faster to give them a better opportunity to get up and make a play.
  • Fixed issue where roster would show incorrect screen when No Results on page.
  • Ball carrier AI automatically hurdles when trying to run passed fallen defender to avoid just bumping into him constantly.
  • New setting called "export_player_stats" (in savedata.ini) that exports match player stats into tab delimited file.
  • Steam achievements were unlocking more than designed, so this update resets all of your achievements.
  • Ball carrier now stiff arms and jukes away from defender as there was an issue where they would move towards defenders.
  • Ball carrier won't juke out of bounds now.
  • Dropped pass logic tuned to drop more passes the closer defenders are to the receiver when ball is about to be caught.
  • Defenders now get catch bonus when more open and trying to make an interception.
  • Defenders can now break up caught passes by hitting receiver right after receiver catches ball.
  • Team names now have black outline so text doesn't get washed out when team's have white jersey colors.
