Multiplayer Test

A local multiplayer option is now available in Hogowiz Keep. Trying local multiplayer requires two instances of Dum-Dum running on the same network (only two players can play in multiplayer at the moment). This is the beginning of our multiplayer efforts; eventually, we hope to add more multiplayer options including online.

To try local multiplayer:
  • Launch Hogowiz Keep
  • Hit ESC to enter the menu
  • Hit either Shift-H to host or Shift-C to join a hosted game

Additional updates:
  • New "Winter" desktop theme. Launch Basic Box and type "desktoptheme winter" to activate, or "desktoptheme default" to deactivate.
  • Added two additional Hogowiz Keep puzzle levels with new blocks to collect.

All of the Hogowiz Keep levels have been tested & are absolutely solvable! If it seems impossible, try looking for a different route...

Hogowiz Keep New Level

Updated Hogowiz Keep, the bonus game that you can install from the Hogo/BBS Hogonet site. There are now three stages to each game level:
  • First, find a way to reach your cat familiar.
  • Next, lead your cat familiar to your cauldron, which will enable building for that level. Picking up new blocks will allow you to "learn" how to build with them.
  • When the blue portal appears, step inside to unlock the next level.

The list of unlocked levels is available from the Hogowiz Keep menu. There are currently two levels to explore & learn new building materials from.

Anything built on the first level should now be saved when quitting Hogowiz Keep. However, any building done on other levels will not currently be saved.

Hogo BIOS

Hogo OS 1985 Edition now has a simulated BIOS that provides new features.

When the game is first launched, or if you are upgrading Hogo OS to a different operating system during gameplay, a string of boot-up text appears (e.g. "Starting Hogocore"). Hold down the delete key for one second while this text is on-screen to enter the BIOS.

Hogo BIOS offers several features:
  • HINTS - if you are stuck trying to complete the main quest, this option identifies the section that you're currently working on, and provides information on how to get past it!
  • BOOT - Customize the text that you see while the game is first launching.
  • RESET - This offers the ability to completely reset the main Dum-Dum story to the very beginning. This option is only available if you have completed the main story.

In addition, there have been a few other updates since last week:
  • ROCK RUNNER SAVE STATE - If you are working through the levels of Rock Runner on Hogo/BBS, your current level will now be retained even if you close the Hogonet Reader window. However, you will still reset to level 1 if you quit Dum-Dum completely.
  • ROCK RUNNER CHEAT - If you are attempting to get the Rock Runner achievement, you can now use a cheat to jump straight to the random levels at any time. See the in-game Hogo/BBS bulletin board for more information.
  • HOGOWORD SHUFFLE - The text book "Win at Video Games" now has tips on how to beat this challenging game.

As always, more updates coming next week.

Hogowiz Keep Updates

Multiple small updates to Hogowiz Keep have been added over the past week. Hogowiz Keep has also now been moved from beta to the main branch. Changes since last week include:
  • A cat companion that follows you around & unlocks new features (currently the ability to build, with more features coming soon).
  • New updated landscape art and layout.
  • New streamlined controls for placing and removing blocks.
  • New menu interface.
  • Ability to "learn" about new blocks by picking them up, adding them to your list of building materials.

We've also been testing multiplayer functionality, which will be made broadly available in an upcoming update. Hogowiz Keep will continue to be expanded over the upcoming weeks.

Hogowiz Keep game

The new addition this week is "Hogowiz Keep," a creative building game with puzzle elements. This is currently ONLY available on the beta branch of Dum-Dum while it is being developed.

This first release has very basic game play. You can run around one of the game's pocket dimensions, pick up blocks, and place them down to do some basic building. This is just the core interface; there is a lot more planned for the game. Also, please note that the controls are temporary and will likely change as we continue expanding it.

To switch to the beta branch: right-click on Dum-Dum in your Steam game list, choose Properties, click on the Betas tab, and select "beta" from the drop-down list.
