Knights Reforged Update



Hello Knights!

We're back with Update 1.2 - Knights Reforged! This massive update is easily in the top 2 or 3 for biggest updates ever! Take a look below for what this huge update includes!

Weapon Mods

We wanted this update to be focused on strengthening existing systems to better fit our design intentions and we started with Weapon Mods. This huge overhaul involves replacing 28 mods with brand new ones, improving a bunch of existing mods, and adding new Ultimate Mods!

[h3]Ember Blade[/h3]
We introduced some new mods to help provide broader access to early synergies and we also gave the Ember Blade a new charge attack.

[h3]Guardian Bow[/h3]
Through community feedback and data analysis, we learned that the charge attack wasn't getting used as often as we had intended. To help make charging the Guardian Bow more viable, we improved its functionality as well as introduce some new mods to help promote the playstyle.

[h3]Nexal Staff[/h3]
The Nexal Staff received some of the biggest changes. While we felt like it was already performing quite well, we also felt like the mods could be doing more to play into the "skill use" aspect of the weapon. To achieve this, we added mods that help increase skill damage as well as scale the Orbs damage based on your skill damage %.

[h3]Rift Hammer[/h3]
With the Rift Hammer, we wanted to make improvements to help promote damage and survivability and we did that by introducing mods, Heavy Blow and Defensive Stance.
We improved Leap which can be found under its new name, Combat Slam. Now, you'll be able to control the length and landing position of the leap.
We also added Volcanic Rift, similar to its predecessor Fissure but now with a larger range and fiery AOE.

[h3]Razor Wind[/h3]
Through community feedback, we learned that a lot of the original mods, while unique, were not as useful as we had intended. For the Razor Wind changes, we decided to move away from manipulation and focus more on how players were already using it with increased functionality for normal and charged attacks.

[h3]Reaper's Toll[/h3]
The largest of the mod overhauls, many of the original mods for Reaper's Toll leaned towards isolated effects rather than synergizing with other effects.
We've now focused on the charge attack, ammo, and "Slashed" status to refine the weapon's identity.

[h3]Ultimate Mods[/h3]
We've also added a new Ultimate Mod for each weapon which becomes available when all other mods for that weapon are unlocked. This is a free mod that can be activated without needing to choose between other mods. Give them a try and let us know what you think!


Ember Tree
It was also time to improve the Ember Tree and for that, we updated almost every upgrade option as well as add a bunch of new and interesting choices!

New Relics

Next, we looked at the pool of relics to see how we could push stronger build synergies, especially with Wisps. We also introduced the concept of Perfect Rooms and Perfect Bosses; rooms cleared without taking any damage.
To this end, we added a bunch of new relics including the DEMONS Mode Community Contest Relic which was designed in collaboration with Tfeh for being the one and only person to complete the DEMONS challenge. A huge congratulations to him for an absolutely epic run!

Hotfix Update v1.1.1

Hello, Knights!

A big thanks to everyone for their help identifying and troubleshooting a bunch of these bugs! Please see below for everything that's included in this hotfix update.

  • Fixed a bug that was happening in local multiplayer where teams couldn’t enter Wightsbury 🔥

  • Fixed a bug with Razor Wind that was preventing the charge attack from being buffered after two regular chain attacks are performed 🔥

Update 1.1 Patch Notes

Hello Knights!

Did you think 1.0 was the end for Ember Knights? Not even close!

We've been collecting all the comments, suggestions, and feedback from 1.0, married those with our vision, and have put together a BIG list of improvements for our first postlaunch update!

Netherra

The Praxis Realm received a major update!
To make decisions meaningful, we've added rewards everywhere including a new reward type for completing all 8 portals.


We've also added 2 new Praxis-inspired skills that should bring out a little evil sorcerer in everyone!
In addition, we've also added a bunch of new rooms and made some important enemy and hazard balancing changes.

Easy Mode

This has been a popular request from our players. Some find the game too difficult, some find the game too easy, and some find a big skill disparity between teammates. We're hopeful that these new options make the game more accessible for more players.

Ember Shrine

Another popular request has been Knight customization. We've revived an asset we made long before the Combat Demo days and repurposed it for the brand new Ember Shrine. Replacing the Ember Pit, the Shrine will allow much more customization with the current player colors. It will also allow us to add further customizations so keep an eye out for that!



Nexus Improvements

We've made a bunch of visual improvements to the Nexus. Check out the Weapons area, Skills area, and Compendium to see all that's been done!

Quality of Life Improvements

Listening to all the 1.0 feedback, we prepared and tackled a massive list of improvements that touch almost every component of the game!

  • Fixed a bug where Pilot Light wasn't cooking dropped items 🔥
  • Fixed a bug where Bitter Chisel wasn't healing the player when killing a frozen enemy
  • Fixed a few issues where upgrades on armor relics were not triggering armor-based events. This includes Steel Greaves, Guard Scepter, Wizard's Fleece, and Spite Shield 🔥
  • Fixed a bug where players would get stuck in their walking animation when using an interactable with a UI

Nexus News - 1.0 and Beyond!

Greetings, Knights!


We did it! After 25 updates and patches throughout Early Access, we made it to 1.0!



It’s been an incredible experience to see where we started and how far we’ve come and seeing our vision become a reality has been truly rewarding. Throughout this journey, we’ve been blessed to receive tons of positive feedback and support and we’re very appreciative for all the comments and suggestions to help improve the game. Ember Knights would not be what it is today without you, our amazing players!



Now, if you joined us during our Early Access, you’ll know that working with the community is what we do. If you’re new to Ember Knights, trust us when we say, just because we’ve reached 1.0, it doesn’t mean we’re done with Ember Knights – not by a long shot!

On that note, let’s take a peek at what’s coming in our 1.1 update, available the week of September 18th.


[h2]Update 1.1[/h2]
We’re in the final stages of wrapping up everything for our first scheduled postlaunch update. We wanted to take our time with this one to make sure we heard from as many of you as we could. Well, we’ve listened and we believe we’ve put together a really great update for you! Without spoiling too much, we’ve put together some highlights below.

[h3]Netherra[/h3]
The Praxis realm is getting a big and much needed overhaul and that includes the following:
  • Rewards! They’re now all over the place and decisions matter!
  • New room types including Healing Rooms, Offering Pits, Miniboss Rooms, and more
  • Enemy balancing and area hazard adjustments

[h3]More Difficulty Options[/h3]
To help a wider range of players, we’ve added another layer of difficulty options. On each save slot, you’ll have the option of selecting Easy, Normal, or Hard to better suit your experience and mood.

[h3]Ember Shrine[/h3]
To add more customization to your Knight, we’ve brought back an asset we made a long time ago, even before our Combat Demo, added a bunch of improvements and polish, and made it our brand new, Ember Shrine. So long Ember Pit!



With the Ember Shrine, you’ll be able to choose your flame color and outfit independently of each other, so instead of 14 color combinations, you’ll now have 196! Keep an eye on the Shrine for more customization options down the road…



[h3]Nexus Improvements[/h3]
One of the first things you’ll notice is a bit of a new look for the Nexus. We’ve reworked the Weapon and Skill areas and gave the Compendium a little bit of love. You may even see a Steward catching up on some light reading.

[h3]Quality of Life Improvements[/h3]
We’ve made a HUGE number of QoL improvements which cover Skills, Relics, Endgame Modifiers, Endless Looping, Healing Rooms, Mimic King, Anville, and so much more!

As always, when 1.1 drops, we’ll include the complete patch notes and be prepared, it’s a big one!


[h2]Nintendo Switch[/h2]

As well as putting together the 1.1 update, we’ve also prepared a pretty significant patch for the Switch. We’ve received word from Nintendo that it’s been approved and scheduled to release today, September 12th!



This patch will include a bunch of optimizations specifically for the Switch as well as all the content and fixes currently available on PC.

We’re still figuring out the best way to keep the Switch version as current as the PC version and we’ll be putting out updates for both, as close to each other as we can, but given the differences in submission processes, we expect the Switch updates to lag slightly behind the PC updates.

Thank you for the questions regarding online multiplayer but we don’t have an update on this at the moment.


[h2]So, what’s next?[/h2]
In addition to preparing the 1.1 and Switch updates, we’ve also been busy putting our thoughts together for new content and features for the future. It’s still way too early to share any big news but looking ahead at 1.2, we’re starting to work on the following:
  • Wightsbury balancing
  • Anville balancing
  • Ember Tree updating
  • Weapon & Mod updating
  • New relics

Some really exciting things are in the works but we can’t spoil any of that quite yet!

Hello, Knights!

We're close to wrapping up everything for our 1.1 update but we wanted to get some of these fixes out before then, so we've prepared the following hotfix patch. Please see below for everything that's included.

Note: items marked with 🔥 are a result of player feedback

  • Fixed a bug that was causing the player to get stuck behind the door when reviving in the True Praxis boss room 🔥
  • Fixed a few bugs that were preventing clients from entering the tear to the Architect's Realm when the host is dead 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was causing Arbiters to spawn Grimlins out of bounds occasionally getting stuck and softlocking the player 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was causing Praxis to escape the boss room via his Killer Grasp attack
  • Fixed a bug that was causing the Champion Gar-Ghoul to occasionally travel and get stuck out of bounds 🔥
  • Fixed a few bugs that were preventing players from rejoining games via Steam invite 🔥
  • Fixed a multiplayer issue where disconnected players could prevent the viewing of other players' inventories 🔥
  • Fixed a visual desync issue that was causing clients to see more health than they have when a miniboss or boss is killed and they have the Earned Vitality Ember Tree upgrade active 🔥
  • Fixed a few visual issues with the Rotworm's spawn animation when spawned from the Champion Rotworm
