Since DemonCrawl's debut last November, we have produced over 50 updates, including a massive expansion as well as an alternate gamemode with 100% solvable boards. All of these updates are completely free for owners of the base game.

And you know what we realized? We want to keep doing it this way.

We don't really want to charge for DLC, or subscription passes, or even for expansions. We like the idea of keeping the DemonCrawl community together in terms of what content we all have access to. When you play DemonCrawl, we want you to feel like there's always something new around the corner and you're not going to get nickel-and-dimed for it.

Introducing a New Boss: The HECKASLUG!

Hi folks,

DemonCrawl's v1.48 patch is just around the corner! While it mainly serves to address balance issues regarding stage mods and masteries, it will also contain some very exciting new content. In fact, it is our largest update since the Sweeping Heights expansion!

Today, we would like to show you a new boss we have been working on. He's called the Heckaslug, and we must warn you - he's a little bit toxic. (His heart is in the right place though.)





HECKASLUG, THE POISON MONGER
  • Gain Poison whenever a Dark Heart is collected.
  • Whenever you make a mistake, lose lives equal to your number of Poisons.
  • Creates a trail of toxic cells.




For the uninitiated: Poison is an omen that causes you to lose 1 life every 60 turns. This is direct life loss, meaning it can pierce armor and other forms of defense.



While omen immunity may help you deal with the effects of Poison, it cannot protect you from Heckaslug's "on mistake" ability. Instead, consider taking advantage of omen or status effect removal. Leeches are a good option!

v1.47 Patch Notes

Hi folks,

We are currently working on a large balance patch for next week, but in the meantime we thought our players might appreciate a few simple QoL features, including edge-based panning. Enjoy!

This patch also includes a number of fixes for recent issues. As always, thank you so much for sending us detailed bug reports - DemonCrawl is a lot better for it.

  • Added option for edge-based panning, enabled by default as it is something many new players try
  • New HUD element for equipped armor



Quality of Life
  • You may now right-click on the favor icon in the codex to reclaim all favor without having to open the tools menu
  • DemonCrawl will create a toast notification when the screenshot command is issued

  • Fixed a crash related to the "Fatal" boss mod
  • Fixed a crash related to Vampiric Blade heart conversion to diamond via Midas Glove
  • Fixed a glitch with the Illusory stage mod that could desync the monster count if monsters haven't spawned yet
  • Fixed a visual bug when applying video settings without changing the display mode
  • Fixed layering of usable item indicator upon closing the help menu
  • Pressing alt+enter in the options menu will now update the display mode label
  • Fixed a glitch related to item transformation and the removal of excess legendary/divine items
  • Fixed visual glitch on stage select screen if you were killed while trying to abort a stage
  • Fixed an issue related to status effect visibility
  • Fixed a visual glitch related to resetting a status effect duration
  • Fixed doubled text on the Divine Simple Robe
  • Fixed Nervewrecker expiration not working properly
  • Fixed a glitch with the Hero Trial description that could cause stats or other quest data to break on reload
  • Speculative fix for visual glitch related to freezeframe effect while using fullscreen mode


EDIT:
Hotfix @ 9:00 PM EST to correct a new issue with Divine replacements.

Hotfix #2: Fixed a few issues related to Divine Simple Robe, Divine Demon Seed, Protagonist legendary check, and cursor getting stuck on panning sprite.

v1.46 Patch Notes

  • Fixed "Quakes" Hero Trial not destroying objects correctly
  • Fixed a rare crash that occurred when a reveal effect couldn't find any cells to reveal
  • Fixed Bubbler mastery not saving duplicated bubbles to disk properly
  • Fixed a couple visual glitches related to mastery tooltips
  • Speculative fix for crash related to item balloon script


Hotfix #1 @ 11:55 PM

  • Fixed Portal Mods activating multiple times
  • Entering the dimensional portal will now remove your items before resetting stats, which should prevent some frustrating deaths
  • Rewrote the script that removes excess legendaries/divines to address a couple glitches
  • Excess legendary/divine removal as well as the dimensional portal no longer activate "item loss" effects, e.g. Substitute
  • Fixed Marksman's Memento not creating chain indicators
  • Reduced the amount of time it takes for the display mode to initialize on startup
  • Android only: speculative fix for crash related to poor/no network connection

v1.45 Patch Notes

Hi folks,

We are releasing a beefy patch for DemonCrawl that offers borderless windowed fullscreen mode! This was not an easy feature to add in GameMaker, so we hope it proves useful. :)




Additionally, this patch includes 7 new items, a new Lv3 emblem, several balance adjustments, and more!

We also managed to fix a few longstanding bugs - cloud sync should behave better now!

NOTE: We had to fundamentally change DemonCrawl's display rendering in order to support the new fullscreen method. Should you encounter any visual issues in this update, please send us an email and we will investigate right away. If necessary, you may adjust your display mode in the settings.ini file located at %localappdata%\demoncrawl. Thank you!

New Features


  • New head armor: Deerstalker - "Cell values are always correct."
  • New passive item: Prism of Intellect - "Your targeted magic items will target an additional random cell."
  • New magic item: Trash Bin - "Lose an item whose position in your inventory equals the value of target visible cell."
  • New magic item: Basilisk Eye - "Solve a number of random cells equal your sealed inventory slots plus 1."
  • New omen: Melted Clock - "Triple the duration of your status effects."
  • New omen: Nervewrecker - "Whenever a monster is revealed, disable your passive items for 20 turns."
  • New omen: Dizzy Stars - "Double the value of a random cell each stage."
  • New Lv3 emblem: The Ascent
  • Added list UI element type, should come in handy for future game settings
  • Added borderless windowed fullscreen option
  • Added language selector (note: official translations are not available yet, but you can load your own external JSONs to change item strings; in other words, fan translations are possible.)


Balance Changes
  • Hourglass converted to a magic item: "[100 Mana] Double the duration of your status effects."
  • Divine Lantern nerf: "[300 Mana] Glean target hidden cell. If it's a 2 or greater, this item retains its mana."
  • Divine Simple Robe buff: "[1 Armor] Double the durability whenever you complete a stage that has 2 or more stage mods."


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed Steam Cloud sync not taking prestige into account when determining whether to overwrite the local save file on a secondary machine
  • Fixed an issue related to taking damage on a Flawless stage with Cultist boss
  • Fixed Ouroboros potentially setting the maximum stage power to a value lower than the min power
  • Fixed missing music from one of the secret stages
  • Fixed Evil Dealings emblem using incorrect sprite
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when purchasing a Doctor from the Guild
  • Fixed the "buy" button not working in the new special stages unless you clicked on one of the options first
  • Fixed weird interaction between familiars and Prism of Light
  • Fixed layering of "new item" indicator against some UI elements
  • Fixed a rare issue that could cause obscure item properties to desync (e.g. whether orbs bounce off walls)
  • Fixed a couple armor effects not updating on removal
