v1.15 Patch Notes

Hello!

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Now that the turkey's been dealt with, we are releasing a new DemonCrawl patch that adds a hotly-requested feature: an in-game glossary. Check it out below!

New Features
  • A new button has been added to the HUD that allows you to view past alerts as well as a glossary of all in-game terms

Balance Changes
  • In light of the recent Spy II nerf, we have decided to revert the functionality of Spy I to "glean 10 cells at the start of each stage."

Developer notes: Although we are still evaluating the balance of Spy II, we recognize that the mastery's early game was quite weak since 4s rarely appear in the first few stages. Now that we've given Spy I its teeth back, we're hoping that Spies will have an easier time getting their builds off the ground. At the moment, we believe Spy II is still good in the mid-to-late game, and we like that activating it requires more of a conscious effort than it used to (chording 3s would often happen "automatically" whereas a 4 often calls for an intentional change in how you approach the board.)

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug with Cauldron that could cause it to destroy itself
  • Fixed Lantern and Spybug not working toward Spy mastery unlock requirements
  • Fixed "Newbie's" Hero Trial effect not doing anything
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when Sawblades collided with occupied frozen cells
  • Fixed aura definitions not showing up when hovering stage mods due to case sensitivity
  • Fixed clear button not properly resetting the keyboard string in search fields
  • Fixed a crash that would occur when a familiar tried to move after you reload a quest and pop him from a bubble
  • Fixed certain items not activating from spending coins on a stranger, e.g. Guild Bond
  • Using Beggar's Cup with a Nomad who's trying to buy an item will no longer cause you to lose the item he's looking for
  • Android only: Fixed an issue where purchasing the Full Game would not award 50 Tokens in some cases (missing tokens will be retroactively awarded)
  • Android only: Scrollbars are now easier to click on

v1.14 Patch Notes

A DemonCrawl update this late on a Sunday night? You bet!

New Features
  • Added a slider in the leaderboards that allows you to filter scores by client version
  • Added "Invert Cell Controls" setting to reverse left and right click
  • Android only: the above setting will allow you to open cells with a short tap and flag with a long tap
  • Added a setting that lets you disable the autoflag feature
  • Improved appearance of Immortal mastery icon

Developer Notes: Due to the frequent balance updates, we have decided to filter out scores achieved in older versions of DemonCrawl. Starting from today, the leaderboards will hide scores earned in v1.13 and before, but you can always show them again by adjusting your leaderboard filter.

Balance Changes
  • Nomad price now increases by 1 after each use
  • Final Boss Ego got sick of trapping himself in Frozen cells and figured out how to bust through
  • Spy II chord requirement increased from 3 to 4
  • The screen no longer shakes when a familiar kills or gets killed by a monster
  • Tablet of Drocer: Redeem at the end of the quest for [200 points -> 50 points]
  • Primordial Gate: 24 coins -> 31 coins
  • Sapling: 9 coins - > 15 coins
  • Cullstone: 20 coins -> 14 coins
  • Mortar: 19 coins -> 30 coins
  • Mud: 12 coins -> 9 coins, now lasts 100 turns instead of 50

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a softlock that could occur when Genie Lamp activated on a stage with the Double mod
  • Fixed buggy interaction between autoflagging and Frozen cells
  • Fixed autoflagging not taking visible monsters into account
  • Muscle now creates a location balloon
  • Fixed pluralization on Mystic Statue rewards
  • Speculative fix for Truthsayer Quill crash

Developer Notes: We have received multiple crash reports about status effect items with rewards (e.g. Truthsayer Quill, Justice Juice.) We aren't 100% sure if we tracked down the true cause of this problem, so if you encounter such a crash in v1.14, please submit a comment here with as much detail as you can. Thank you!

Enjoy!

v1.13 Patch Notes

Today, we're releasing a patch with a couple quality-of-life features and a bunch of bug fixes. Enjoy!

New Features
  • You can now autoflag cells by right-clicking visible cells
  • Added confirmation dialog when right-clicking an heirloom before destroying it

Balance Changes
  • You can no longer chord concealed (cryptic) cells

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed unobtainable Bloodway paint drop
  • Chording now respects Fast Sweep control setting
  • The stage preview UI no longer becomes misaligned if you use multiple Miracle Seeds in quick succession
  • Updated pluralization script to print "0 coins" instead of "0 coin"
  • Fixed a visual glitch where the inventory bag would sparkle at the beginning of a new quest
  • Fixed "Everything Must Go" achievement not unlocking
  • Fixed Dimensional Portal visual alignment issue
  • Fixed a crash related to Divine Dice
  • Speculative fix for dimension # not persisting when reloading Endless Multiverse
  • Fixed a bizarre Bazaar glitch

v1.12 Patch Notes

Hello!

We are releasing a small patch today to address a number of bugs and unintended item effects. We have also made a few adjustments to stranger prices based on player feedback. Enjoy!

New Features
  • Added keybind support for board panning (DVORAK users rejoice)

Balance Changes
  • Hungry Plant feeding requirement changed from [4-10] to [3-8] items
  • Mercenary price changed from [2-6] to [1-5] coins
  • Waterboy price changed from [1-4] to [1-3] coins
  • Blacksmith price changed from [10-20] to [10-25] coins
  • Elder price changed from [7-15] to [7-18] coins

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed buggy interaction when an orb blew up before monsters spawned into a stage
  • Fixed bug that allowed Thornseeker to work on revealed cells
  • Fixed a crash that occurred in the Bazaar if you tried to trade an item you no longer had
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when game tried to distribute Banked XP outside of a quest, e.g. Crafting achievement
  • Fixed an issue with certain Hero Trial effects evaluating cells too early, which led to inaccurate cell values in rare circumstances
  • Pressing backspace on a popup will no longer softlock the game
  • "Pre-enter-stage" items will no longer trigger when reloading a stage
  • Speculative fix for a crash that occurred when retrieving invalid data from Steam Cloud

We are still investigating two major issues:

  • There have been a few reports of Steam Cloud and Google Play Services not syncing profile data correctly. If you have recently used the cloud save feature on either platform, please let us know whether it worked for you. This is our top priority right now.
  • DemonCrawl crashes without error on large stages and/or stages with very few monsters. We have investigated this and determined that it's caused by GameMaker's relatively poor handling of recursive functions. The interesting thing is that such stages can be played when building DemonCrawl with GameMaker's VM interpreter, but not with YYC. This is a little surprising to us because YYC allows the game to run better in nearly every other way. We'll see what we can do to get around this problem.
