Umurangi Generation and Hades are officially ‘the best’ at the IGF and GDC 2021 awards

The Independent Games Festival awards and the Game Developers Conference awards were held last night in cyberspace. Like a Zoom meeting for the soul, the ceremony hopped between the winning game developers’ living rooms, with host Victoria Tran (community director on Among Us) stitching it all together with a remarkable combination of enthusiasm, sincerity, and silliness. She gets an IGF from me.

The big winner was Umurangi Generation by Origame Digital. The photography sci-fi game won the 'Seumas McNally Grand Prize' and the narrative prize at the IGF awards. Hades was also recognised as the game of the year at the GDC awards. The rest of the winners, and the whole darn ceremony, are below.

A lot of people really liked Supergiant's mythological roguelike game, Hades. (It ranks high on our GotY 2020 list, too.) Now, it's inspiring fans not just to get into Greek myth, but to record their own reading of The Iliad, one of the most notable writings of classic myth, and one of the most foundational works of Western literature.

The Iliad Project is a reading of The Iliad, as translated by Robert Fagles, set to be released on June 20. The recording is done by 27 community readers, and even includes the vocal talents of Courtney Vineys, the actor behind Dusa and Aphrodite. It will be available on YouTube and various podcast apps, following a release stream on June 20 at 3pm PDT / 6pm EDT / 11pm BST.

As you might imagine, the Hades developers are excited about it too, and creative director Greg Kasavin is even providing a forward for the project. "It's wonderful when Hades can help spark new or renewed interest in Greek myth," the devs say on Twitter. "These folks from our community will soon be taking it to the next level with a complete audio recording of the Iliad of Homer, which inspired our Achilles and Patroclus and many other details."

Изометрический данжен-кроулер с элементами роуглайка Hades от разработчиков Bastion и Transistor выйдет на PlayStation 4. Официально об этом пока объявлено не было, но игра уже получила возрастной рейтинг в Южной Корее, что обычно является предвестником готовящегося анонса. Местный государственный регулятор оценил версию игры для консоли Sony еще 30-го апреля.

Hades обошла The Last of Us 2 и взяла главную награду престижной премии D.I.C.E. Awards 2021

Американская Академия интерактивных искусств и наук признала данжен-кроулер с элементами рогалика Hades игрой года в рамках прошедшей 24-й церемонии награждения D.I.C.E. Awards. Всего проект забрал пять наград премии, в том числе за лучший экшен, игровую режиссуру, игровой дизайн, а также выдающиеся достижения для независимой игры.
