Introducing a new game mode - OutPosts

What are Outposts?
Our community urged us to create a game mode that allowed them the freedom to collect resources, craft and build on Icarus without the pressure of time. So we did just that. Outposts are a 1km x 1km plot of land where you can do just about everything you normally would in our original game mode but without the threat of storms and enemy AI. You can zen out, test your architecture and crafting skills, and invite your friends to come and play with you.

Currently Outposts are still in development, and we cannot wait to show you what they're all about!
Regarding Icarus shifting away from a free-to-play title to a premium purchase
We gave ourselves time to carefully consider the pricing model for Icarus. Our priority has always been to ensure a sustainable game of AAA quality for our players to enjoy across the years to come. Making Icarus available for purchase will allow us to confidently make regular in-game updates and develop our future DLC Chapters New Frontiers and Dangerous Horizons to the highest standard.

The feedback we received from our community members in Discord aligned with our vision, and enabled us to reach this conclusion in reflecting these values. We appreciate your input tremendously!

Icarus Will Support RTX Global Illumination And NVIDIA DLSS

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
At NVIDIA’s Computex 2021 Keynote Icarus was exclusively announced as supporting RTX Global Illumination (GI) and NVIDIA DLSS!

This means gamers in the GeForce RTX family will experience the highest levels of performance and visuals in Icarus, bringing the planet to life in intricate detail.

It was great to be featured alongside established titles like Doom Eternal and Red Dead Redemption 2 - we’re in good company!

Icarus GameRunner Dean Hall is really excited about the extra immersion this graphics tech will bring to the survival game genre. “Ray-traced global illumination brings the hand-crafted worlds of Icarus to life with another level of realism. NVIDIA DLSS provides a significant performance boost without any loss in image quality thanks to the Tensor Cores in GeForce RTX GPUs, ensuring our players have the smoothest possible experience,” says Dean.
