The Chained God - Content Update for Knight's Tale | June 23

Updates to King Arthur: Knight's Tale have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client (in on-line mode) is restarted.

New features



[h2]Seasonal content: The Chained God[/h2]
  • The Chained God is a seasonal content, a short, stand-alone campaign where you control a fearless Fomorian Champion. This campaign is a set of skirmish missions without management options, a purely tactical experience with a story that ties into the main story of Knight's Tale
  • The four difficulty levels available in the regular campaign are available in the Season as well
  • These Seasonal missions will remain playable even after future releases



[h2]Revamped Endgame[/h2]
  • 20 new Endgame missions available now after one completed the story campaign. These missions require an even more tactical approach than the previous ones
    • In 12 missions you will face the mighty Fomorians
    • 8 missions are against the various enemy factions you already encountered in the campaign
  • Old Endgame missions are still accessible by loading saves which were created after the completion of Act IV
    • Those players, who haven't yet reached the end of the story will gain access only to the new Endgame missions
    • Players who finished the story already can open up the new Endgame by loading their save file which was created right after the completion of the last Act IV story mission. A new tab has been added to the Main menu under which this specific save will be displayed
  • The fights against the Endgame bosses (King Bres, Great Worm, Balor) were rebalanced to provide an even greater challenge than before
  • Most Endgame units were revised: their damage output has been decreased slightly but their Vitality has been boosted at the same time

[h3]Seasonal endgame mechanics[/h3]

Collect Soul Fragments
  • Slain Fomorians drop a Fragment of their Souls that can be collected by stepping on them
  • Soul Fragments still hold part of the malicious Fomorian essence; picking one up bestows various debuffs on a Hero, based on the type of Soul
  • Soul Fragments expire after 2 Turns
  • Soul Fragments are lost if not picked up before expiry or by the end of the Encounter (except for the ones dropped at the very end of an Encounter)
Fomorian Spires
  • You may encounter Fomorian Spires on Missions
  • These Spires empower Fomorians and conjure powerful Hurricanes every Turn
  • Destroying them not only eliminates these effects, but also grants a Spire Shard
  • Collect Spire Shards to empower your Relics' unique enchants
New building: Soul Merchant
  • The Soul Merchant is located in Camelot
  • 20+ new Seasonal Relic items have been added to its stock. Acquire them with collected Soul Fragments to enhance your Heroes' capabilities
  • Some of these Relics have unique enchants that get stronger as you acquire more Spire Shards
  • The Soul Merchant's stock does not refresh, all his goods are visible from the start, so you can plan ahead


[h2]Reduced storage space requirement[/h2]
  • The occupied hard drive space of Knight's Tale has been decreased by more than 66%. The current size was reached by compressing most textures as well as models
  • Side effect: due to the aforementioned changes the current patch has a much bigger size as the update restructures and replaces many files in the game's directory. All saves will remain playable

[h2]Cohh Carnage voicing Balor[/h2]
  • We're thrilled to announce that the voice of Balor during the Chained God mini campaign is narrated by Twitch streamer Cohh Carnage, who was a supporter of the game from the very beginning, so it was a no brainer to do something cool together


[h2]Difficulty levels in Roguelite mode[/h2]
  • The four difficulty levels of Classic mode are now also available in Roguelite mode. All levels are identical to their Classic mode counterparts
  • Players can only set the difficulty level before starting a new campaign


[h2]Misc[/h2]
  • A new shielded Melee role icon has been added to units with shield to indicate that these unit block a certain amount of incoming damage
  • Respeccing all skill points is cancellable in the Training Ground
  • Added a translation to all cinematics for every localization
  • Added a description in The Tale of Sir Yvain mission about the disabled manual saves during the mission


[h2]Balance[/h2]
  • Rebalanced some stats of the Vanguard:
    • Their default Surprise damage has been lowered to 30% from 50%
    • Their Surprise damage while in Hidden state has been lowered to 20% from 50%
    • Their Backstab damage has been lowered to 15% from 30%
    • Their Backstab damage from ambush has been lowered to 15% from 20%
    • Various items granting surprise damage have also been moderately nerfed
    • Developer comment: Vanguards got really out of hand late game, easily dealing 3-4 times the damage that other classes were able to. These nerfs aim to mitigate that, while keeping the early and mid-levels of the class intact. After the changes, Vanguards will still be able to dish out more damage than any of the other classes (about 1.5x times the damage of Champions for example), but they won't be able to single-handedly delete whole enemy teams
  • Rebalanced the effect of the Demonic Possession tag to be less potent
  • Various Endgame maps have been improved from a balance perspective
  • Most of the endgame enemies have been rebalanced. Damage numbers have been scaled down, while vitality, armour, and AP numbers have been tuned in order to present a more fair, and consistent challenge
  • The minimum range of the Marksman's Poison Bomb is now 2 instead of 3
  • From now on, the Mental Debuff Resist stat defends units against the Chill effect of Lady Morgana le Fay's Glacial Strike skill instead of Physical Debuff Resist
  • The Vanguard's Sprint skill will put the Hero into Hidden state at the end of the player's turn if the conditions for Hide are sufficient (the Hero ends up on a tile where they can hide)
  • The Fire Drake skill received a ranged tag so it can benefit now from enchants providing increased range for ranged skills
  • The Glowing Sphere's Zap skill no longer ignores the Armour of the Hero
  • The Burrowed Queen's Bite skill will no longer stun our Heroes


[h2]Fixed bugs[/h2]
  • Fixed various crash issues
  • Fixed the Tome of Release
  • Fixed the Keeper of the Excalibur trait of Sir Mordred. Moreover, the trait gives +10% damage now
  • The Free Targeting Preview option is once again available in the Options under the Controls tab
  • The Black Knight using his Leap Attack on uneven terrains broke the model's posture. This has been fixed
  • Fixed an issue in The Return of Morgana le Fay mission where the game could stuck sometimes when one of the cutscenes got triggered
  • Fixed an encounter in The Black Keep mission which did not end even if one killed all the enemy units
  • Fixed an issue where Lady Isolde could resurrect automatically after unlocking the Apprentice Herbalist Hospice upgrade and completing one mission afterward
  • Fixed all traits which granted any kind of bonus to Heroes in missions while the Heroes were appointed as masters of a given building in Camelot (like Lady Guinevere's Tutor, Sir Pelleas' Drillmaster or the Faerie Knight's Sacrificer trait). Previously, the Hero with such a trait had to be in our party as well to receive the bonus
  • Fixed the "-1 AP Cost for Blood Hex" enchant's description. The Ashes of Abhartach relic item reduces the AP cost by 2
  • Fixed the "-1 AP Cost for Force Bolt" enchant's description. The Rune of Channeling relic rune reduces the AP cost by 2
  • Critters were sometimes frozen on the ground and made no movements when our party came near them
  • Fixed an issue in The Tale of Sir Yvain mission where the game could stuck if one of the totems were attacked with the Vanguard's Strike
  • Fixed an issue in The Wild Hunt Returns where if the NPC died the appearing Continue button could not be interacted with
  • Fixed an issue where the tutorial window about the option to change the difficulty level on the Adventure Map appeared in Roguelite mode as well
  • Added a picture to the loading screen of The Traitor mission
  • Added a picture to the loading screen of PvP missions
  • Removed the Curse debuff from the list of debuffs as Shrines could still apply this effect sometimes
  • Fixed an issue in the Balor's Champion mission where even if Gwendolyn died the ritual could go on and the mission didn't end in failure
  • Fixed Sir Tristan's Lost trait. The Hero will no longer be affected by Bleeding
  • Fixed the sound of Merlin's Fog skill
  • Fixed an issue where players could manually save in The Tale of Sir Yvain mission after finishing any battle
  • Fixed the enchant granting +4 temporary HP when triggering the Defensive Stance skill
  • Fixed the description of the Slaughterer's Strike skill. The ability hits twice in quick succession, not one
  • Fixed one of the Minstrel in Distress event's choices which did not increase the loyalty of the female Heroes


[h3]Fixed skills[/h3]
  • Fixed the Corrupt Armour mastery of Sir Dagonet's Master of Hexes skill
  • The Vanguard's Strike was fixed. The second hit now takes the removed Armour, HP, temporary HP as well as the applied debuffs into account before damaging the enemy
  • Fixed the Master Poisoner mastery of Sir Tristan's Alchemist skill
  • The Lady of Winter's Magical Bolt skill can no longer hit hidden units
  • Fixed various stacking skills where the stack did not save properly if one reloaded their save file after an encounter
  • Fixed an issue where Merlin's Fire Bolt skill could damage enemy units with fire immunity tag as well
  • The Weeper's Thunder Shot skill could hit hidden units as well. This has been fixed
  • Fixed the Master Poisoner ability of Sir Tristan which did not increase the damage reduction of the Hero's Poison Cut skill
  • Fixed the Bones Spike skill which did not damage friendly units despite being an Area ability
  • From now on, the Ice Plate ability can block the Fire Wips Zap skill
  • Fixed an issue where Lady Boudicea's Counter-Attack skill was triggered even when the Hero received a knockback
  • Fixed Sir Tristan's Smoke Bomb which made all ranged enemy units to move towards our Heroes. From now on, in such situations ranged units will enter into overwatch state
  • Fixed an issue related to the Fire Drake skill where the ability didn't damage units sometimes even if they stood on targeted tiles. Moreover the skill did not benefit from the extra damage bonus received in Hidden state. This has been fixed as well
  • Merlin's Falling Star area spell inflicted less damage against bigger-sized enemy units. This has been fixed
  • Fixed the description of the Shieldbearer's Champion Roar: it applies Weakness instead of Vulnerability


[h3]Controller fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed an issue where one could not ignite the Balefire with the controller in The Protector mission
  • From now on, the displayed icons on the map can be checked with the controller
  • From now on, you can swap your Heroes on the Hero List
  • From now on, you can check your loot after the missions on the Mission Result screen

Reduced install size coming on Thursday

Knights!


One of the most requested features to be added - or rather removed - was addressing Knight's Tale's install size. We're happy to announce that after in-depth testing we found a working solution that allows us to keep the game's visual fidelity while significantly reducing install size, and it's going live with the next update on Thursday.

With this fix, the game's directory will take up nearly 60% (!!!), or roughly 70GB less space, on your disk. We achieved this by compressing most texture files so that Knight's Tale is less demanding on storage devices.

Please note that the update will be larger than a normal patch, but once everything has finished downloading and installing, the overall file size of King Arthur: Knight's Tale will decrease significantly.

these past few weeks were spent busy around the studio, and we're super excited to announce that Knight's Tale's first major update will hit Steam in just 3 days! This means that come June 23, you will be able to embark on a mini-adventure to find out how Balor, the monstrous God-King of the Fomorians managed to free himself from the chains binding him. And we've got a couple more things in store too!

Revamped Endgame

First off all, with the new patch, we're reworking the structure of the Endgame in manner similar to Seasons in other titles. This means that each seasonal content update will focus on a new enemy faction, this time around the Fomorians. The Endgame will consist dozens of maps (just like in the current iteration), 12 of which are against the season's main antagonist faction. Besides this, you will be able to earn seasonal currency that you can exchange for unique rewards and enchants, as well as power-ups for these items.

Fixes & balance changes

We're also addressing various balance issues and several bugs reported by the amazing people in the community - our gratitude goes out to everyone who reported these to us on the forums and through Discord. With these, you can expect a more balanced experience and fewer difficulty spikes during the campaign, no matter which difficulty level you're playing on.

  • Sorting
    • A sort button has been added to the inventory with which players can sort all their items based on rarity

  • The Knight's Tournament will be cancellable now in the Training Grounds but the cost won't be provided back
  • Sir Tristan's starting equipment has been improved a bit, his starting level is 4 now and received the Jump Vanguard skill when we encounter him for the first time in the Whispering Cove mission
  • Sir Tegyr's starting level has been increased to 7 from 6
  • Sprint is tagged as a Movement skill now
  • Leap Attack, Earth Shaker, Poison Bomb and Rain of Arrows received an Area tag
  • Enemy units which occupy more than 1 grid cannot be put into a Bone Cage any longer
  • Lowered the requirement of the Parry Master Challenge from 5000 to 3000
  • Changed the It's a Trap! achievement's unlock criteria: Kill 5 enemies in their own round by traps in a single encounter
  • Changed the Fire Walk With Me achievement's unlock criteria: every Arcanist spell will count from now on
  • Decreased the Vitality and the damage output of the villagers in The Return of Morgana le Fay mission
  • Various Endgame missions have been reviewed and improved
  • Reviewed and slightly rebalanced several thematic enchants (Blood Magic, Wild Magic etc.)
  • Rebalanced the AP/kill enchant which will grant AP once per turn from now on
    • Developer comment: The combination of stacking AP per kill from various sources and the ease at which certain heroes can close the gap with enemies, combined with other, stacking on kill effects made this enchant far too powerful. We hope this change reduces the possibility to abuse this mechanic, without taking away from other builds that use it.
  • Increased the cooldown of the Vanguard's Jump skill a little bit. 3 turns needed for it to be used again but with its mastery this number can be lowered to 2
    • Developer comment: The Vanguard had the ability to deal massive damage, and did that without any repercussions. Jump combined with Hide was a complete safeguard for the class, no matter how aggressive or risky one played. With the changes, mistakes can be punished by the AI, and the Vanguard can't close distance so easily - thus making it harder to clear the whole backline of enemy teams with only one Hero

[h2]Misc[/h2]
  • Tweaked shadows to improve the general performance across all maps
  • The Mission briefing window received a tooltip to indicate where you can change your active party's composition
  • Added a new font type for the Russian localization
  • Added a note about the limitation of the Hide skill to its description
  • Added a tooltip to the Sacrifice button in the Enchanted Tower which also indicates now that only Relic items can be sacrificed
  • The Knight's Tournament received a more comprehensible description
  • Added an objective marker to the minimap which appears above the location of the final fight after one talked with the Hermit in The Tale of Sir Yvain mission
  • If a Hero has been bestowed a title in any building, the title will be indicated in the Hero's tooltip and on their Character sheet as well

  • The Banshee will no longer appear at the starting point in The Whispering Cove mission after running into it for the first time
  • Fixed an objective in the To Distant Shore mission which could not be completed under special circumstances
  • Fixed the Find and save the captives objective in the Hunt of the Damned mission
  • Fixed an encounter in the Into the Deepwood mission where the cutscene did not trigger if one killed all the enemy units in the first turn
  • Fixed the "Fight as many bandits as you can" side objective in the Woodland Vermin which could not be completed
  • Fixed an issue in the Fire with Fire mission where a Hero could stuck between two grids making the unit unable to move for the rest of the encounter

  • Bear Trap's Precision mastery had a mismatched icon - now it has the correct one
  • Fixed an issue where Heroes could use Potions, special abilities or counter-attacks while frozen or stunned
  • Fixed the "-1 AP cost to Force Bolt" enchant which didn't work on the Faerie Knight's Force Bolt skill
  • Units with Spell Immunity tag will no longer be affected by the Death Hex spell
  • The "Teleport to nearest enemy within 8 tiles" ability will no longer work with the Ice Wall
  • Fixed the Poison Cone skill which calculated its own damage output as well for its requirement
  • Fixed the Ice Storm skill which moved towards our Heroes instead of enemy units
  • Fixed the Gas Trap skill which didn't apply Poison onto those units which moved into the trap
  • Fixed Sir Tristan's Double Strike skill which did not properly register the damage output of the second strike
  • Fixed the Poison Cut skill's Gangrene mastery which didn't decrease the enemy units' damage output
  • Fixed an issue related to Hex resistances


[h3]Corrected texts/descriptions[/h3]
  • Silence's tooltip will now display its proper effect
  • There was a missing note about the Fogbringer's AoE passive skill which was activated upon the unit's death. This has been corrected
  • Master Bleeding's description now properly matches its effect
  • Fixed various dialogue texts and voiceovers where they were not aligned
  • Earth Scorcher now properly includes in its description that Units starting their Turn in the area also suffer the Damage
  • Sir Dagonet's Desecrated Round skill covers a 4x4 area instead of 3x3. It's description was incorrect, which has been fixed
  • Fixed various typos and strings

  • Fixed various crash issues
  • Fixed the Tome of Release which did not remove negative Hero traits with a permanent effect
  • Fixed an issue where the building resources could go into the negative and block the progress of the player
  • Fixed the Regain Vitality Hospice upgrade
  • Fixed an exploit where players could separate a Hero from the party and go through several encounters without triggering them
  • Fixed an issue where after taking action with a Hero the player's turn ended even if other Heroes still had unused Action Points
  • Fixed an issue where the extra Loyalty points coming from the Guardian of the Lady Court title did not update the Loyalty values immediately on the GUI
  • Fixed an issue where an activated Overwatch could not reversed sometimes
  • Fixed an issue where if someone activated two essences in quick succession both essences were applied twice
  • Fixed various Heroes' missing reactions
  • Fixed the End Turn hotkey as it could also work in the enemies' turn
  • Fixed a movement animation issue of the Spirit of the Artificer NPC in a cutscene in the Artificer mission
  • Fixed all those Shrines which did not grant XP in missions despite their descriptions' indication
  • Fixed a camera rotation problem which appeared for those who use dual monitors and their cursor left the monitor when rotating the camera
  • Several GUI-related fixes


Free content update out in June - The Chained God

Your journey in Avalon has just begun but things won't stop after the launch of course. Besides some hotfixes which are in the works (already released minor ones), the game will receive its first big patch in a form of a free content update in June.

[h3]The Chained God[/h3]

We're happy to announce "The Chained God", the first free seasonal content update for King Arthur: Knight's Tale, coming in June for all players.

In "The Chained God" players will take up the role and will be able to play as the mighty Fomorians, the brutal and terrifying giants of Avalon - the main enemy faction of the Knights of the Round Table. The update features a brand new chain of short story missions, focused on these mystical creatures, introducing new gameplay, new items and expanding the lore.

"The Chained God" is the first of many free content updates coming to Knight's Tale. Besides these, other, longer form content is also in the works, however, details about these will be revealed later.
