Teardown mods add Minecraft pickaxes, a Portal gun, and Team Fortress 2 weapons

As the name suggests, Teardown isn't about building things, it's about wrecking stuff. The charming little voxel-based sandbox game appeared on Steam Early Access just over a week ago, and modders have already gone to town on it, adding everything from Minecraft tools to Team Fortress 2 weapons.

Teardown's voxel art style makes it a natural fit for Minecraft's chunky visuals, and there are already a host of Minecraft-themed mods for the game on Nexus Mods. Swap out the sledgehammer for a diamond pickaxe or Steve's blocky hand. You can change the UI to one that uses the familiar Minecraft HUD with health hearts and the toolbar. Of course, there are several maps to choose from as well, all done to make Teardown look just like Minecraft.

But modders haven't stopped there, not by a long stretch. Another mod adds the police helicopter to every map, replacing it with the original Doom's bulbous red cacodemon. There are several weapon packs, including ones for the FN-FAL and Spas-12 shotgun. You can even use voxel versions of a selection of weapons from Team Fortress 2.

Version 0.4.6 live on main branch

Today we pushed build 0.4.6 to the main branch. It has previously been available for testing on the experimental branch. This is a minor update to fix the most common issues caught after the release. More will come.

Changelog:
  • Support for Windows 7/8.1
  • Support for AZERTY keyboard layout
  • Audio improvements when using Voicemeeter and other SW which reroutes/reconfigures audio paths.
  • Quickload available after restarting a level
  • Notification on the main menu if the game can't write to the Documents folder.
  • A couple of crash bug fixes
  • Upgraded security for propane tanks, car alarms, and the power accumulator in the Powerplant.

Hope you enjoy the game!

Teardown is a game about breaking stuff, and it's a hit on Steam Early Access

There's a page on Facebook that's entirely dedicated to sharing over-baked memes about how great forklifts and forklift operators are. A lot of what fuels it, apart from propane, is the fact that it's hard to look at a piece of heavy machinery like that without enviously imagining how much fun it would be to get into one and wreck shop. Fortunately there's Teardown, which is out now on Steam Early Access.

The idea behind Teardown, as we excitedly noted when we first saw it, is that the lovely little voxel environments are all completely destructible, and you're given a satisfying range of tools with which to do exactly that. There's a campaign that has you levelling buildings, and it's possible to do that with either a standard-issue sledgehammer or a front-end loader parked nearby. Either way, the walls and windows and brickwork all crumble pleasantly under your swing.

After emerging on Early Access October 29, Teardown has already found some success on Steam: it hit a peak of more than 8,000 concurrent players on the day of launch, and looks like it's poised to repeat that - or perhaps even exceed it - today.
