Boomerang X Patch 1.02

Hello all! This is our second update. This one is mostly focused on adding some quality-of-life features that folks have been asking for.

  • Added an option to the Gameplay menu that skips the cutscene at the beginning of the game
  • Added an option to the speedrun timer to display both the “continuous” and “single arena” timers at the same time
    • This is a new entry option for “Both”
  • Added new keybindings to allow Scattershot & Thread to be activated on separate buttons
  • Added an accessibility option to continue from the last reached wave after dying
  • Added a button to delete New Game Plus progress

Cheers everyone! Thanks for playing.

Boomerang X Patch 1.01

Thanks to everybody who played Boomerang X in our first week! Thanks as well to everyone who provided feedback and bug reports. This is our first Boomerang X patch. It is a quick one, and we have more coming soon that will take a little longer to be finalized. In this update, we focused on three major categories: bugs, quality of life improvements, and a tiny bit of balance.

Bugs
  • Fixed a stuttering issue that was mostly visible on high refresh rate monitors
    • Special thanks for Jinglebuns and hologram_sam for their footage and help
  • Fixed issue that sometimes prevented the door after the Composers Garden from opening
  • Made portals consistently face you towards the next area when exiting, even if you jump in backwards
  • Fixed floating lumberer spawn points in Resonance Engine
  • Reset abilities upon death in tutorial arenas (Cartography Room, Composer’s Garden)

Quality of Life
  • Pausing the game no longer pauses the speedrun timer
  • Added a dot to the speedrun timer that changes color depending on the current difficulty setting
  • Made some accessibility options change the color of the speedrun timer
  • Breaking the level start crystal now heals all shields
    • Entering the arena already did this, but sometimes people would take environmental damage before starting the level.
  • Made the exit at top of the stairs in the Resonance Engine more visible
  • Support for dualsense gyroscope (PS5 Controller)

Balance
  • Made the gem on the frog’s belly easier to hit
  • The giant moth’s babies that protect it are now slightly faster
    • This will actually make it easier, because they will be closer to it instead of getting so spread out.
  • The giant moths now wait slightly longer before dropping their first bomb
  • Made eagles turn more slowly when hovering
  • Made eagles breathe fire in a more consistently forward direction when hovering
  • Lowered fly spawn points in tutorial arenas (Cartography Room, Composer’s Garden)
  • Goo floors now activate Blaze without damaging you
  • Moved gems in Needle tutorial to make it harder to complete without using Needle
    • We saw too many people walk through without doing the tutorial.
  • Retimed recall tutorial slightly
    • Made it a little more strict, and require you to actually recall the boomerang to get through this tutorial

Enjoy!

Boomerang X is Live!

It's out. We made it. This is the spot which the X marks.

For two years, we have been stuffing so much attention, effort, and weird trash into this game that it's a little disorienting to be out of trash to give. Boomerang X is the first commercial game coming out of our studio, and we're incredibly excited for everyone to finally see what we've been up to for so long.

As always, we'll be on the lookout for feedback and bug reports, so let us know if you see anything suspicious. Give Tepan 100 simultaneous high-fives for us!

Thank you all so much,

Boomerang X tosses one out this July, catches it

There are a lot of retro first-person shooters around at the moment, but relatively straight recreations of Quake don't interest me. Boomerang X gets at the spirit of those games with a design that's its own.

It's also coming out on July 8th, and there's a new trailer below.

Boomerang X's demo offers Devil Daggers-style delights with a sense of progress

RPS fell hard for Devil Daggers, naming it our game of the year back when, but one of the most common criticisms from the "not for me" crowd was that it lacks a sense of progress.

Try Boomberang X, then. It's a first-person arena shooter with escalating waves of greebly enemies and a focus on a single weapon, but you unlock new abilities and move to new areas in between fights. There's a demo available now.
