Apex Legends Season 14 breathes new life into Kings Canyon

Apex Legends: Hunted is shaping up to be one of the most substantial updates to Respawn's beloved battle royale in recent times. The Season 14 update will drop in just over a week's time, and as well as the customary new Legend - youthful sharpshooter Vantage - we'll also be seeing lots of weapon updates, and some important changes to Apex's oldest map, Kings Canyon. Remember Skull Town? Well, it's back. Sort of.

Apex Legends' Skull Town POI back with a twist in Season 14 update

It's safe to say that fans of Respawn Entertainment's free-to-play battle royale shooter Apex Legends have been waiting a long time to see the return of Kings Canyon's iconic Skull Town POI. Canonically, despite a brief appearance as an Arenas map during the Genesis Collection Event in Season 9, Skull Town was destroyed in Season 5. Now, though, after all these long months, it's finally back. Skull Town has returned to Kings Canyon in Apex Legends' Season 14 update - but, there's one huge twist.

What is this huge twist we're talking about? Well, the Skull Town POI we all know and love from Apex Legends' earlier seasons isn't returning exactly as it left. In fact, it's going to be different enough that Respawn Entertainment has decided to give it a brand new name: Relic.

Now, we know what you're thinking... Is this new Relic POI really the same as Kings Canyon's Skull Town POI if they have completely changed the name of it? Well... No, of course it's not the same. Loba blew up the original Skull Town way back when. However, according to lead level designer Jeff Shaw, this is going to bring back the classic Kings Canyon gameplay we all know and love.

New Apex Legends Vantage trailer introduces the young sniper to the battle royale

A new Apex Legends cinematic trailer has introduced Vantage - a young but talented marksman - to the game. Packing a custom sniper rifle and their pet bat, we see a bit of backstory teased as well as some hints towards what their ability kit could look like in game.

As with all character launch trailers, we get a lot of time with Vantage allowing us to further understand the backstory established in the Stories from the Outlands trailer released earlier this week. Cutting between a firefight and a one-to-one with their mum in prison, the trailer (embedded below) gives a nice overview of what the deal with Vantage is.

While initially not great in a fight, we see some pretty nifty sniping skills shown off in the trailer too, which give ample room for speculation in regard to her move set. For one, we see her pull down a visor over her right eye, identifying incoming enemies which fits in well with her scout / sniper archetype. We also see her send out her bat mid-combat - here’s hoping they play a bigger part in-game than a cute sidekick!
