Apex Legends Fight or Fright event resurrects Control LTM

Spooky season is almost upon us, and in Apex Legends land, that means a four-week event of sinister skins and some fun limited time modes. As well as Apex's staple Halloween event Shadow Royale coming back for a run on a nighttime Olympus, everybody's favourite LTM that should be a permanent mode, Control, is returning too.

Respawn has revealed the full schedule for the frightening four-week fiesta, and in week three of the event, players will be able to jump into Control for the first time since June. The two-team, objective-based respawn mode has fleetingly appeared in Apex on a few occasions now, and while there have been creases to iron out, players have begged for it to be added to the game as a permanent mode due to it's easy-going, low stakes nature that makes it an excellent warm up for more serious action in Apex Legends ranked.

Control will be played across three of its distinct POI-based maps: Barometer, Lava Siphon, and Hammond Labs (which will be the version in the Olympus After Dark map variant coming in Fight or Fright this year).

Apex Legends community stumped by mysterious yellow symbol

Apex Legends players love unravelling mysteries, but the latest conundrum that's really got them stumped doesn't involve hunting easter eggs, piecing together lore, or testing things until they break in the firing range.

At the time of writing on September 28, the most popular post on the Apex Legends subreddit right now sees the community bashing their heads against the wall trying to work out what a mysterious yet simple yellow symbol means. User 'BoereGaming' has uploaded a screenshot showing a glowing, yellowy-orange stroke mark next to their in-game name. Despite boasting a community of 2.2 million Apex Legends fans, no one is yet to figure out what on earth it actually means.

In the comments to the post, there is a wide range of theories, ranging from plausible to straight up ridiculous.

Apex Legends leaks hint at more secret free emotes for battle royale

Following every Horizon main's surprise that Respawn Entertainment secretly released a brand new free emote for the Apex Legends character, there's evidence to suggest that both Bangalore and Newcastle are also getting free emotes in the future. Whether you play a lot of Apex Legends or not, it's clear that this is one of the best battle royale games out there right now - and this is one reason why.

We know it hasn't been confirmed that they will be free just yet, but established Apex Legends leaker 'KralRindo' has revealed that there are two new ground emotes in the game's files - one for Bangalore, and one for Newcastle. Sharing this information, KralRindo details that the Bangalore emote is listed as 'bangalore_ground_emote_drinkingbros' and the Newcastle emote is listed as 'newcastle_ground_emote_chillaxingdrink'.

With the two legends canonically siblings, and Apex Legends' pre-established history of introducing specific animations and voice lines to reflect the sibling relationship between the two characters, it seems somewhat likely that these two emotes will be linked in some way - and most-probably show an interaction between the two when used side by side.

Here's why Apex Legends doesn't have more Titanfall weapons

Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends is one of the best battle royale games out there at the moment and one of the reasons behind this is the game's selection of weapons. Apex Legends may have fewer guns than Warzone and Fortnite, but they're balanced fairly well and offer a variety of gameplay opportunities to players. While there are a lot of players happy with the weapons in Apex Legends, there are quite a few who want to see more. When asked, once again, about Titanfall weapons during a Reddit AMA on the battle royale's characters and firearms, senior game designer Eric Canavese explained exactly why we're probably not going to see too many more Titanfall guns in Apex Legends.

In his explanation, using Titanfall's Softball Anti-Armor Grenade Launcher as an example, Canavese details that the weapons in Titanfall are designed "specifically for Titan combat" and that Apex Legends' combat often just "doesn't have those sorts of challenges" for players to overcome.

Discussing the Softball explicitly, he goes on to say that Respawn Entertainment would need to look at creating a new weapon category altogether for a grenade launcher - or develop it "specifically as a care package weapon". However, as he discusses in another Reddit comment, the resources required to develop and introduce a new weapon to Apex Legends outweigh the impact it has on the game when it is limited to care package drops.
