Apex Legends' ranked mode is getting a bit of a shakeup in Season 11: Escape. As well as allowing players to dive straight into new map Storm Point in the first split of the season, players will have a revised ranked battle royale scoring system to get their heads around too.
While the base principle remains the same - kills, placement bonuses, and placement scores all combine to give you an end RP score - the maths is changing somewhat for ranked Season 11. While placement points will all stay the same, Respawn is relaxing the rules on RP earned through kills and assists. Say goodbye to the six-kill cut off for RP, and say hello to a more dynamic scoring system.
So how does it work? Well, for a start, the amount of RP you earn for each kill or assist will now scale depending on the rank of the opponent. If you're a Platinum-ranked player and kill a Diamond player, you will receive 12 RP, rather than the standard 10 RP. This also scales down too, so if you're a Gold player killing a Silver player, you will earn only 8 RP.

Storm Point, the new Apex Legends map coming to the battle royale in Season 11: Escape, looks to stretch the limits of level design beyond Apex's previous three maps. Storm Point is the biggest and tallest map in the game - it's 15% larger than previous record holder World's Edge, and at its peak, it rises higher than the plane in Kings Canyon.
But was this always the goal from the start of Storm Point's development, or did the geographical extremities occur naturally throughout the two-year development process? Rodney Reece, the lead level designer for Storm Point (and the brain behind World's Edge too) says that from the outset he wanted the fourth map to push boundaries.
Speaking to The Loadout, Reece explains that he pushed for so much verticality because he knew at the start of development that the game would eventually have legends with movement-specific abilities. He says the kits of Season 9's Valkyrie and latest legend Ash were perfect fits for Storm Point's dizzying heights.

Apex Legends' next season, Escape, kicks off next week, and it introduces the new playable character Ash. She's a simulacrum (read: human brain in robot body) that you might recognise as the evil pilot from Titanfall 2's Into The Abyss level, or as the overseer of Apex Legends' 3v3 Arenas mode. Now she's descending into the Apex games herself, and having taken her for a spin already, I reckon she has some delightfully aggressive abilities that Wraith players in particular are going to enjoy.
Beach map! Beach map! Beach map! Apex Legends' next season, Escape, is right around the corner, and it's bringing a tropical island to fight on. It's also bringing a the new Legend Ash, the CAR SMG and more, but most importantly: beach map! I had a chance to play a little of Respawn's battle royale in this new arena, and it is delightful. Named Stormpoint, it's the FPS's fourth map, and not only is it lovely to look at, but it's full of cool locations to explore and dangerous wildlife to dodge.
