Apex Legends bug that banned players for no reason reportedly fixed

Following yesterday's update, which nerfed the new Bocek bow and Spitfire and fixed a number of known issues, players of the battle royale have been reporting something that never made the Apex Legends patch notes: they're getting banned for no reason.

Swathes of players took to social media to report false bans, which were preventing them from logging in. While timing out from a server or going AFK were being reported as potential reasons for the bans, some players were reporting bans being issued mid-match with no inactivity. It was a real head-spinner - but according to a tweet from EA's support account, the issue appears to now be under control.

The tweet declares that EA has "fixed the login issues some of you were having with Apex Legends," but some are still claiming they are locked out of their accounts due to bans caused by the issue. The general consensus is that if the issue keeps persisting, ensure you have fully restarted your game and system so you can fully log back into the servers. If you're still locked out, you should follow the steps on EA Help's official page about banned or suspended accounts - or you were genuinely doing something ban-worthy (tut tut).

Apex Legends' Valkyrie will be nerfed to avoid ALGS Championship "coffee breaks"

ALGS Championship opens with plenty of surprises and very little Valkyrie

Apex Legends' powerful new bow has already been nerfed

It's been just over a week since Apex Legends' ninth season started, and Respawn have already had to tone down one of its new additions, the Bocek Bow. Unfortunately, it just did a bit too much damage, so its numbers are being brought down, and its charge time increased. It's not a huge surprise. Most people I've played Apex with over the last week or so have all had a moment where they've stopped to say: "Huh, this feels a bit too strong".

Apex Legends' Bocek bow nerf is "coming soon" according to dev

11/05/2021 Respawn director of communications Ryan Rigney has stated on Twitter that nerfs for both the Bocek and Spitfire are "coming today"

The fervour for Apex Legends Season 9: Legacy has seen the battle royale game rocket to even greater levels of popularity. Just two days after launch, Steam Charts recorded Apex's highest ever peak of 330,000 players on the platform - an incredible 100,000 more than the previous record set back in March this year.

However, the hype was quickly replaced by concerns over the performance of Apex's newest weapon - the Bocek bow. The Bocek is an absolute monster of a weapon. It's silent, hits hard - you can check the numbers in our Bocek bow guide - has no damage drop off, and even at mid-range is effectively hitscan. Oh, and it fits 48 arrows into a stack, making it incredibly inventory-efficient.

Even pro players are having a nightmare of a time playing against the bow. Jack 'NiceWigg' Martin, for example, took to Twitter to vent his frustrations, saying the current meta is like "fighting in a survival game". Indeed, not knowing where and when you may be picked off by an arrow changes the dynamic of the game greatly.

ALGS Championship groups revealed

Apex Legends esports is going from strength to strength, as evidenced by the success of the Winter Circuit Playoffs. While the scene has been growing consistently over the course of the first Apex Legends Global Series, broadcast viewing figures came to a head in the Winter Circuit.

Including player co-streams, the Winter Circuit Playoffs generated a cumulative 100,000 average minute audience, according to EA. This surpasses the previous most-watched ALGS tournament by over 50%. Most of these viewers appeared to be split between the official broadcast and Phillip 'ImperialHal' Dosen, and were likely enticed by the Championship stakes and the introduction of Twitch Drops that offered in-game cosmetics.

EA and Respawn have also revealed details about the ALGS Championship, including the full schedule and the finalised groups. As a reminder before we get into the nitty gritty of the groups, EMEA and NA regions will have four groups of ten teams, and APAC North, APAC South, and South America will have three groups of ten teams. Each group will play each other group twice in the case of EMEA and NA, and three times in the case of the remaining regions.
