Apex Legends Global Series Winter Circuit Playoffs winners

The Apex Legends Global Series Winter Circuit came to a head at the Playoffs this weekend, and fans watched as five teams were crowned champions of their respective regions. As the last major tournament before the ALGS Championship, and one of the easiest ways for teams to guarantee a spot at the prestigious million-dollar competition, there was a lot on the line.

NRG won in an incredibly tight North American tournament, which came down to the last three teams in Round 7 all being Match Point eligible. NRG beat Team SoloMid and Counter Logic Gaming to take home $48,000 of the prize pool. In EMEA, FlavorOfTheMonth was awarded the same prize for its victory.

Both APAC North and APAC South went to eight rounds, with T1 beating favourites Crazy Raccoon in the northern region, and surprise package grApe beating the likes of former MiTH roster Tom Yum Kung and Reignite South to claim the prize in the southern region. grApe won the Winter Circuit Last Chance Qualifier to attend the Playoffs, and made their shot count. Both T1 and grApe earned $30,000 for their troubles.

High risk, high reward: Why Apex Legends pros are taking a chance on Octane

The Apex Legends meta is in a constant state of flux, but a few things are certain: the Kraber will one-shot, Wraith will be a top-tier legend, and Wraith mains will leave your pub games if they get downed. However, one unexpected combination is becoming an increasingly common sight when climbing the Apex Legends ranks - Octane and Revenant.

The unlikely bedfellows form a key part of a hyper-aggressive playstyle, combining the legends' ultimate abilities with lethal results. While individually, they may not rank too highly on our Apex Legends tier list, together they become a nigh-unstoppable force at every level of play. The combination of Revenant's Death Protection, which teleports you back to his totem when you would usually be downed or killed, and Octane's jump pad, which sends you flying into opponents' faces at high speeds, can be game-ending for your opposition.

This was proved during the Apex Legends Global Series Last Chance Qualifiers last weekend when multiple squads ran the brutal combo. In Europe especially, Octane made up 17.5% of the picks, according to Apex data researcher Singh Labs.

Apex Legends Arena mode: release date, 3v3, and more

Apex Legends Arena mode is a datamined mode coming to the game soon. While it is yet to be confirmed and, as a datamine, could change at any point, from what we know so far it looks like it will be a fun new way to play Apex Legends.

Arena mode will pit one team against one other - taking the 'battle royale' element away from Respawn's hit FPS game. As one of the best battle royale games, this could be seen as a risky move, but we're down to see how a Team Deathmatch-esque mode works out when you add different legends and abilities into the mix.

Of course, a Respawn blog post mentioned that the developer would be bringing new ways to play and "take us beyond battle royale," and it seems that this is the direction they're taking. As such, we've gathered every scrap of mined data and every hint that Respawn has given to present you with the clearest picture of Apex Legends Arena mode you can find.
