Apex Legends Season 8: Mayhem introduces new legend Fuse

In some cultures, eight is believed to be a lucky number. In Apex Legends, it looks set to be the number of destruction, as Season 8: Mayhem has just been announced. Season 8 sees the addition of Fuse as the battle royale's sixteenth legend, and his enthusiasm for explosives is sure to cause a stir.

From his Stories from the Outlands lore video, we see that Fuse is a hardened brute who competed as a brawling gladiator on the planet Salvo. Appearing alongside a companion in the video - who Respawn lead writer Amanda Doiron confirms is called Mad Maggie - Fuse declares that he is leaving Salvo to become the first from his planet to join the Apex Games. On hearing this news, a brawl ensues between Fuse and Mags, and the golden grenade that the pair have carried around since childhood is detonated.

In the blast, Fuse loses an arm, but survives and walks away saying: "it's a lost cause." The trailer is purely cinematic, so we haven't got a glimpse at any abilities just yet.

Apex Legends explosive new character Fuse arrives in Season 8

I can’t believe it’s been nearly two years since Apex Legends launched. Back then it had only one map and eight characters. Now the battle royale has three cool maps that chop and change as the seasons go by, and 15 (!) Legends. It’s not long now until we meet the 16th either. Today, Respawn gave us all our first look at Fuse, an explosive Aussie Legend who’s arriving in Apex’s eighth season, which kicks off on February 2nd.

Apex Legends players receive info on $1 million Global Series Championship

14/01/2021 This was previously reported to have been leaked information, but was in fact sent to all ALGS players.

Competitive Apex Legends players are getting very excited after receiving an email announcing the Apex Legends Global Series Championship. The email explains that the event will take place after the culmination of the ALGS Winter Circuit, and it will boast a $1,000,000 - the biggest in the history of the Global Series.

60 teams will enter the tournament, and they'll be able to secure a spot based on their Winter Circuit performance, cumulative ALGS points, or a Last Chance qualifying event. This puts a lot of pressure on teams fighting in this weekend's Winter Circuit, who are now chasing a spot in the Championship.

The email was sent out to all registered ALGS players, and can also be read at the bottom of the Winter Circuit announcement on the EA site. Apex Legends' lead partnerships manager, Shahin Kanafchian, hinted that more information would be reaching players soon, but warned against reading too much into speculation. That's never going to stop people from dreaming, though, is it?

Apex Legends player creates the longest Wraith portal we've ever seen

Every Apex Legends player knows one thing: coming up against Wraith is the worst. We've got nothing against the character, but her abilities have been top tier since day one of the battle royale game and the players who use her have a less-than-stellar reputation.

Living up to her reputation as the overpowered marmite of Apex Legends, Wraith player Slay_Cyan posted her filthiest Wraith play to Reddit. She combined Revenant's Ultimate ability with Wraith's portal and the popular flyhacking glitch with Olympus' Trident vehicles for one of the most complicated plays we've seen in a long time.

The play didn't end well, with the whole team getting downed by the players at the other end of the portal, but she still posted the clip - and it makes for great watching. This is definitely in contention for the longest Wraith portal ever recorded, and frankly we'll be disappointed if the Guinness World Records book of 2021 doesn't include a link to the clip.

Apex Legends' serial winner Lynx TH explains APAC South's aggressive meta

"One thing I love about the APAC South region is the aggression," explains Mark 'Onset' Hatcher as he called the Summer Circuit Playoffs for the region earlier this year. And it does feel more aggressive than other regions. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why it is more aggressive, but it seems like common knowledge in the Apex Legends competitive scene.

The third seasonal circuit of the Apex Legends Global Series is coming to a head this weekend with the Autumn Circuit Playoffs. The $500,000 prize pool will be divvied out between teams based on their performances in this tournament and this tournament alone, as they face off against the best opponents from their region.

As exciting as this sounds - and it will undoubtedly be exciting - Apex Legends has had a pretty defensive meta since the esport's inception. Aside from portalling DPS character Wraith, the most popular legends in competitive Apex are Wattson, who can garrison a position with electrified fences, and Gibraltar, whose fortified buff makes him harder to take down and whose Dome Shield can protect teammates from immediate danger.
