Apex Legends Global Series Autumn Circuit results are in

Apex Legends Global Series is the pinnacle of achievement for Apex Legends teams, and the quarterly Playoffs offer the toughest competition - and the biggest prizes. The Super Regional Playoffs for the Autumn Circuit took place this weekend, and while the best players showed their class, there were some surprises also.

Lynx TH continued its dominance of APAC South with another impressive victory - making it the first ever team from the region to win back-to-back Super Regional Playoffs. Favourites MiTH Team 1 came third, and EXO clutched second place. We analysed Lynx's aggressive Summer Circuit performance ahead of the tournament, and its "YOLO" strategy continues to work wonders.

Elsewhere in the world, Complexity Gaming took home $45,000 for its victory in the North American region after a mammoth nine-game tournament, with Sola Fide pushing it all the way to the final second. By the final game, eight teams were on match point and fighting for victory, creating an exciting match that would come down to a shootout between Sola Fide and Complexity, with the latter winning the matchup to be crowned champions.

Apex Legends fans are getting a novel of tasty new lore

In the battle royale genre, Apex Legends is unique in the fact that it leans so heavily on the in-game lore. An element of this is likely due to the Apex Games taking place in the wider Titanfall universe, offering extra lore snippets to the legion of cult fans of the first-person shooter dilogy.

In the past, lore has been drip-fed to fans through trailers, Season Quests, and short Tales from the Outlands animations that explore the characters' backstories. However, it's clear that the writers have plenty more material and no vessel to carry it. Nobody likes jumping into a game of Apex Legends ranked only to be faced with a bunch of text explaining all the lore, so they put it in a book.

We're not joking, the first Apex Legends novel, Pathfinder's Quest, has been penned by three lead writers for the game, and is available to preorder now from Amazon and Amazon UK. Tom Casiello, Manny Hagopian, and Ashley Reed have worked on the hardback tome, which sees Pathfinder attempt to discover who, or perhaps what, created him.

Apex Legends developer says cross-play is "important to a game like ours"

Apex Legends has had an incredible year as a battle royale. Since its launch, hundreds of thousands of players have dropped into King's Canyon or Worlds End to get a taste of the action, but players on different platforms still can't party up to wreak havoc on the battlefield.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Apex Legends' general manager Dusty Welch and game director Chad Grenier admitted that cross-play in multiplayer games is "kind of expected" nowadays and the pair would love to see it added.

"I think on cross-play we see it's something that is kind of expected in the industry and is important to a game like ours," Welch tells Game Informer according to Comicbook.com. "Chad and I are obviously big fans of playing our game at work and in our free time -- and we go home on a Friday or weekend and want to play with each other and we're on different systems.
Limited-time mode: Winter Express
Hi everyone, I’m Mark Yampolsky, Systems Designer on Apex Legends, and I’m here to tell you about a fan-favorite mode we’re bringing back this Holo-Day Season, now with some exciting changes!

The train is back in World’s Edge just for Winter Express, and this time it’s not the only vehicle descending into the valley around Epicenter. The supply ships from Kings Canyon are also flying around the frozen explosion.

For those of you who haven’t played it before, Winter Express is a round-based mode where three squads battle for control of the train as it makes its way around World’s Edge. This year, when your squad respawns after a round has finished, you will spawn on your own supply ship as it follows the train. From here, your squad will be able to survey the battlefield and skydive into combat as the train arrives at its next station and the objective unlocks. The squad that won the previous round will respawn directly on the train.

We’ve also added a new station for the train to stop at: Derailment is the scene of a catastrophic accident that occurred as a cargo train travelling the opposite direction took a tricky turn at high speed. This new station has a variety of flanking opportunities, and a unique rotation under the bridge where the train stops. This allows you to quickly change which side of the objective you’re attacking.

These changes should significantly reduce some of the long respawn times between rounds that players experienced last year. We can now spawn you earlier on the supply ships, and the longest section of track between stations is now divided in half with Derailment. We think these changes will make the mode an even more awesome experience.

Some new Legends have joined the games since Winter Express was last live, including: Loba, Revenant, Rampart, and Horizon. These Legends shake up the mode in new, exciting ways and we can’t wait for you to find new strategies for defending the objective or breaking through a powerful enemy line. We’ve also refreshed and rebalanced loadouts for this mode to include new weapons and purple armor for more exciting engagements that really help show off what our Legends can do.
Holo-Day Rewards Track
This year, Holo-Day Bash contains a rewards track with all-new unlockables. The rewards track will be available the same time as Winter Express, December 1 to January 4.
