Apex Legends Season 7 Battle Pass gets another round of tweaks

Apex Legends Season 7 has so far been exciting and controversial in almost equal measure. While the latest additions, including Scottish scientist Horizon, have been welcomed with open arms, key changes to the game's Battle Pass system remain contentious. Many felt that the reworked pass, which requires you to earn 'Battle Stars' in order to rise through the tiers, was overly grindy.

When Season 7 first landed, it wasn't uncommon to see players reporting that it was taking 2-4 hours of gameplay to move up a single tier. Thankfully, developer Respawn Entertainment was quick to address the issue, promptly rolling out a first batch of tweaks and promising that more changes would arrive soon enough.

Well, Apex Legends game director Chad Grenier has now detailed precisely what those changes are, and it sounds like many of the pass' issues will shortly be behind it.

Apex Legends won't have quads because three is "the magic number"

If you've been keeping a close eye on the development of battle royale games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or Call of Duty: Warzone, then you'll have noticed that the games have a variety of different modes catered to different party sizes. Well, don't expect Apex Legends to deliver the same options, because Respawn Entertainment isn't a fan of quads.

While Apex Legends ranked is locked to trios only, the game has dabbled with duos and solos before. Duos is currently available as a casual mode and solos has made several appearances as limited-time modes. Quads, however, according to design director Jason McCord, just isn't an option.

"We don't have any plans to release Quads," McCord says in a recent Reddit AMA. "Trios is the magic number for us. That's when the legend composition really shines and the X-Men vs Avengers fantasy really starts to shine through. When you play Quads, which we tested early on, the combat becomes nearly untrackable. It's chaotic in a negative way."

Apex Legends Season 7 tier list

From teleportation to air strikes, gas traps to jump pads, Apex Legends has many unusual ways to humiliate and dominate your opponent. Its lineup of legends is now 15-strong with the addition of Horizon in Season 7, and they've all got their quirks.

While the design or kit of a legend can be enough to convince players to use them, many stick with their legend for one reason and one reason only: they're bloody great at picking up kills and securing wins with them in the battle royale. But as we head into the new season, which not only introduces Horizon but also a brand new arena to battle in with Olympus, which legends are the best?

Well, here we'll try to answer that question. Obviously, some players will be more comfortable and effective with the abilities of certain legends, but there are a select few that are pretty hard to beat in most situations. This tier list does take into account our opinions of which legends are the best, but we've also weaved some science in there too with stats on pick rates and kills.

Respawn makes it easier to complete Apex Legends' Season 7 Battle Pass

Apex Legends developer Respawn has made changes to Season 7's Battle Pass after the player base criticised it for being too "grindy." The new Battle Pass will act differently than in other seasons, using Battle Stars to level it up rather than XP.

Just hours into the new season though, it became clear that the new star system was making Battle Pass progression much harder than in previous seasons. That's because there are only two methods of earning stars: completing daily and weekly challenges, or accrue 10,000 XP to earn one star.

After hearing the criticism, Respawn has now taken action. While the distribution of stars for challenges will stay the same, weekly challenges will now take "less time" to complete. It has also slashed the amount of XP you need to hit to earn extra stars. Players will only need to gain 5,000 XP to earn a star now.
