Don't expect to rush through Apex Legends' new Weapon Mastery system

Respawn Entertainment has detailed a new Apex Legends Weapon Mastery system for players to get stuck into when the Arsenal update rolls around and it's promising some decent long-term progression goals tied to interesting rewards - including a guaranteed legendary weapon skins. However, you shouldn't expect to rush through this new progression system - even if you play Apex Legends all the time. Why? Well, you might need weeks of game-time to unlock everything on offer.

As reported by media outlet Dexerto, it looks like it could take Apex Legends players anywhere between 80 hours and 120 hours to complete each set of Weapon Mastery challenges. With it looking like the "trials" you'll be met with being "very skill dependent", it could take even longer than that.

Apex Legends' upcoming Weapon Mastery system is the battle royale's "first new long-term progresion system" and aims to "make Apex Legends more approachable for new players" - according to this Apex Legends blog post detailing the new features coming to the battle royale in Season 17. When you consider the fact that Respawn Entertainment has explained that "the goal here was to deepen player engagement across the board", it's certainly understandable that the Weapon Mastery system would offer several hours-worth of content. However, we can't help but feel as though it's a little too long - if what Dexerto says is true, anyway. It doesn't look like Respawn Entertainment has shared a ball-park figure like this yet.

Apex Legends' latest character Ballistic is an old dog showing off some new tricks in his trailer

The new Apex Legends season, Arsenal, looks exciting from watching the new trailer. The 17th season is set to launch on May 9th, and features new character Ballistic, a competitor in the Apex Games' predecessor the Thunderdome Games, now making a comeback as the new legend. The popular World's Edge map is also getting some healing, and there's an Apex Museum within the map that celebrates Apex's past, present, and future. Although the theme for this season seems to be nostalgia, there are still some new features to look forward to, particularly the updates to the weapon system and upgraded Firing Range.

Apex Legends' Season 17 Ranked changes could cause longer queue times

Respawn Entertainment has detailed all the Apex Legends Season 17 Ranked changes coming to its' battle royale in the next major title update, and there's a lot to unpack for fans of this FPS game. One of the most interesting changes to come from Respawn's refresher of Ranked is the fact that Apex Legends' Ranked mode will be presenting players with an invisible MMR system going forwards - while also dropping Ranked Points (RP) for Ladder Points (LP) - that could result in longer queue times. Oh, joy.

As explained online, Apex Legends wants to provide its' players with "consistently competitive matches" moving forwards. So, it's "enabling matchmaking in Ranked based on a hidden Matchmaking Rating (MMR)". With RP not being a true representation of a player's skill level, Respawn Entertainment is hoping to introduce a hidden MMR system that values match fairness - but, that could also result in "a small, but noticeable increase in queue times".

However, this is also going to account for party size and should offer Respawn a more accurate assessment of your skill level when matchmaking. This divorce from RP, though, does mean that there's a new points system to contend with: Ladder Points.

Respawn's CEO is just like us, "would love" to see Titanfall 3

In a strong he's just like me for real moment, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said he "would love" to see Titanfall 3 happen.

I'm not a big shooter kind of player. They're just not for me, unless they're doing something interesting, like Titanfall 2, which yeah, everyone's right: that's a damn good video game right there. Personally I'm not looking for anymore Titanfall multiplayer either because I never played the online portion, but I would love a third game just for the story. Only problem is, Titanfall 2 didn't do so well, and Apex Legends is doing incredibly well - so why the hell is Respawn's CEO getting my hopes up?

Zampella recently spoke to Barron's (via PCGamer), where he touched on a potential Titanfall 3, and didn't say no outright. "I hate to say yes, then people latch onto that, and then skewer you when it doesn't come," said Zampella, "But I would love to see it happen is the real answer." Of course, he did make sure to point out that Respawn isn't "working on anything currently," and there aren't "exact dedicated plans for that."
