Apex Legends is sunsetting Arenas to add a highly requested feature

Now, we don't want to get anyone too excited about Apex Legends' Season 16 update, but Respawn Entertainment has made the decision to finally sunset Arenas. Introduced in Season 9, this round-based three-versus-three mode was a decent alternative to Apex Legends' core battle royale mode; it also made a great place to practise your gunplay against live opponents, rather than taking to the Firing Range. However, whether you're a fan of Arenas or not, Apex Legends isn't just getting rid of it as a game mode; Respawn Entertainment is eventually replacing Arenas with a brand new playlist that fans have been asking for.

As explained by Apex Legends' design director Evan Nikolich, Respawn Entertainment is going to replace Arenas with Season 16's new Team Deathmatch LTM - something this battle royale's fans have been waiting quite a while for.

Going into Season 16, Respawn Entertainment "want to create a safe space for players to get in practice", according to Nikolich. So, they're "doing that by first introducing TDM at the beginning of the season, and then [they're] following [that] up with a new rotating mode called Mixtape". This new playlist will feature "some of the community's favourite modes" - including Control and Gun Run.

Apex Legends' Ranked rewards to remain same as entire system evaluated

When it comes to sitting down and spending your time playing Apex Legends' ranked playlist and trying to climb the Apex Legends ranks, there isn't really much to shout about when it comes to rewards. In fact, for the amount of time some people spend grinding out important win streaks in Ranked, the rewards are a little crummy. We know Respawn Entertainment is making quite a few changes when it comes to this battle royale shooter this season, but Apex Legends' Season 16 ranked rewards won't be included in that illustrious list of improvements and updates we'll see in the next set of Apex Legends patch notes. However, all hope is not lost for the future.

In a similar fashion to Season 15, Season 14, and the season before that, Apex Legends players can look forward to earning a new Season 16 skydive trail (if they reached, Diamond rank, Master rank, or Apex Predator rank), and a Season 16 Apex Predator rank badge (if they made it that far). However, that's pretty much it.

Thankfully, this could be something that changes in the future. Speaking to press during a pre-release preview showcasing all the new changes and content coming in this battle royale's Season 16 update, design director Evan Nikolich has confirmed that Respawn Entertainment is "evaluating the whole system holistically". So, there is an opportunity there for new ranked rewards in the future, just not in Season 16.

In keeping with the general rule set every battle royale shooter follows, quite an important part of Apex Legends' early game is looting; you really do need to set yourself up for success in these opening stages if you want to win. Unlike other battle royale games, though, Apex Legends players can find themselves finding some of the game's best weapons in periodically dropped care packages - or, craft them at any point in the Replicator. This season is changing quite a lot about Apex Legends, but not that - thankfully. So, if you're wondering what the Apex Legends Season 16 care package weapons are, and what you'll be able to build in the Replicator, you're in the right place - and one of these weapons is going to hit very hard.

Shared with press during a pre-release preview event of Season 16, Apex Legends' lead weapon designer Eric Canavese has confirmed that the Hemlock, a burst-fire assault rifle, is replacing the Rampage - so, expect to see this popular light machine gun back as floor loot.

It's our understanding that Apex Legends' RE-45, Bocek Bow, and the ever-popular Kraber will also be available in this battle royale's care packages. We haven't seen the latest set of Apex Legends patch notes yet, but we're expecting everything to be the same in terms of how these weapons come - meaning the RE-45 should still have Disruptor Rounds.
