Apex Legends' Ash revealed character with quietest footsteps

We know stealth isn't the most impactful factor when it comes to success in Respawn Entertainment's battle royale shooter, but tactfully choosing when to keep quiet can make quite a bit of difference when you're trying to win in Apex Legends - especially if you're sitting in the final circle. But, outside of utilising abilities like Wraith's Into The Void or Mirage's Life Of The Party, how're you supposed to know which character is the best when it comes to stealth? Well, one dedicated Apex Legends fan has managed to work out which Apex Legends character has the quietest footstep audio - so, that's a start.

In an effort to work out which character has the quietest footstep audio at the moment, Apex Legends fan 'Pescodar189' has taken to Reddit with dBFS (decibels relative to full scale) recordings for every single character in this battle royale. They haven't just recorded a bunch of gameplay clips, though. This test, this somewhat scientific experiment, has been conducted with almost every influencing factor in mind.

Not only has Pescodar taken the average readings from a "timescale", rather than just noting a character's peak audio output, they have also conducted this experiment on three different in-game surfaces: dirt, stone, and metal. In an effort to reinforce any findings they might have stumbled onto, they also tested two of the characters in live games on World's Edge and two games on Broken Moon. As you can read in Pescodar's explanatory Reddit post here, they also tested "pieces of this" experiment on different computers using different settings.

Apex Legends' Hardcore Royale LTM will be a sniper's dream

CELEBRATE THE DAWN OF A NEW YEAR WITH THE CELESTIAL SUNRISE COLLECTION EVENT

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Join us in celebrating the dawn of a new year in the Celestial Sunrise Collection Event! We’re introducing a new limited-time mode that will put your skills to the test called Hardcore Royale, and our reward track is packed with great cosmetics to unlock including the new Reactive Peacekeeper!
HARDCORE ROYALE
It’s time to bring your A-Game to the ultimate test of the Apex Games. Hardcore Royale is much like Trios, but with some fun changes that will make information sharing amongst your squad critical. Make sure to count your shots, and always keep the Ring in mind. Let’s break down what to expect when you drop.

Armor is restricted to white armor only, and can’t be upgraded through dealing damage, crafting, or looting. While this makes it easier to take down your enemies, keep in mind you’ll be just as vulnerable. Helmets have also been removed making headshots more lethal/rewarding. Pick your fights carefully, Legend. Or it could all be over in the blink of an eye. Additional gameplay changes for Hardcore Royale are listed below.

Hardcore Royale Changes:
 • Limited HUD
 • White Armor Only
 • No Helmets
 • Armor doesn’t spawn in Deathboxes (No Armor Swapping)
 • Ring starts at max Damage

Like Ranked, Hardcore Royale will be LIMITED to Accounts Level 20 and above. So be sure to level up your account before it drops to get in on the intense action. Hardcore Royale will not be a takeover, meaning regular trios will still be available during it’s run. Two more Limited Time Modes will be coming to the Apex Games after the Collection event!
CELESTIAL SUNRISE COLLECTION EVENT ITEMS
Unlock 24 enchanting limited-time cosmetics, with Legendary skins for Octane, Pathfinder, Caustic, Ash and more!

All 24 items will be available in exchange for Apex Coins or Crafting Metals and in Celestial Sunrise Event Apex Packs for the entire duration of the event.

If you unlock them all before the event ends, you’ll automatically receive “Jadeite Retribution”, a new Reactive Peacekeeper Skin!
REWARD TRACKER
You can earn up to 1,600 points per day and challenges refresh daily. All these challenges also stack with your Battle Pass so you can complete multiple challenges at once.

Apex Legends pick rates show top players dropping Horizon for new main

If there's one thing that can sometimes feel impossible to predict when it comes to Apex Legends, it's the battle royale shooter's meta. Of course, we could spend hours debating who should top an Apex Legends tier list and which combination of characters is best for climbing Apex Legends' ranks, but that doesn't mean it's easy to tell how the players will react to any changes. The hidden Apex Legends Horizon nerf that Respawn Entertainment accidentally introduced (and has since removed) is the perfect example of this. We know the Apex Legends Horizon pick rate is recovering somewhat, but this character's decline has seen rise to two new contenders for the top spot - and one of them might surprise you.

When it comes to popular Apex Legends characters, it may come as no surprise to you that Octane has benefitted hugely from Horizon's decline. As per Apex Legends Status, Octane's pick rate is up almost 5% across all ranks. Meanwhile, comparatively, Horizon's is down over 8%.

When you look specifically at Platinum-rank players, these numbers are +10.2% and -13.3%. For Diamond-rank players, this swing is even more dramatic with Horizon down over 21% and Octane up 20.3%. If you want to go even higher, you'll see that Octane is up a whopping 27.6%. Meanwhile, at these higher ranks, Horizon is down 20.8%.
