Apex Legends' Gun Run LTM introducing new weapon to battle royale

We know there's a lot of chatter around this fan-made Apex Legends Crypto rework, but a new Collection Event is about to start in Respawn Entertainment's battle royale - and there's quite a lot to look forward to beyond flashy skins and a new heirloom item. Apex Legends' new Beast of Prey Collection Event is switching up crafter weapons, adding a limited-time event reward tracker, and introducing a new LTM to the game. While the mode itself does sound quite exciting, the real interesting thing about Apex Legends' Gun Run LTM is that it's going to be a testing ground for a brand new weapon: throwing knives.

That's right, Apex Legends could very well be getting a new throwable in the future - and it's something Call of Duty fans will know very well, as it's commonplace in all the best Warzone loadouts.

Apex Legends' Gun Run LTM is actually a lot like Call of Duty's Gun Game, a free-for-all party mode where players need to kill one another to progress through a gauntlet of random weapons before using a throwing knife - or a tomahawk - to get one final kill and win the game.

Fan-made Apex Legends Crypto rework could solve his dismal pick rate

We know Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends is one of the best battle royale games out there right now, but there's always room for improvement - and Crypto is one place where that improvement is needed. Despite being a legend that offers players quite a lot of utility, he just doesn't quite sit right with players - and that's why he's always on the tail end of our Apex Legends tier list. Thankfully, a handful of Apex Legends fans have detailed the Crypto rework this free-to-play battle royale needs and we're inclined to agree with the decisions they have made.

The top-line talking point when it comes to this Crypto rework posted on Reddit by 'AstronomerSenior4236' is the fact that Apex Legends' fans think that he should be able to use his tactical ability and passive ability independent of his drone - which still features heavily - and makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Discussing Crypto's passive ability first, it looks like Apex Legends fans want to see something somewhat similar to Vantage's Spotter's Lens passive. Proximity Firewall, which is what the fans have named this ability, would allow Crypto to detect the number of squads in a certain radius when aiming down sights while unarmed.

Apex Legends Global Series Year 3 shakes up the ALGS Pro League

Apex Legends esports fans have been waiting all summer for some details around Year 3 of the Apex Legends Global Series - well, the wait is over.

For Year 3, the overall structure ALGS will look similar to last year. There is still the top tier of the Pro League, and an amateur Challenger Circuit that feeds into that, for each major region. There is still the intention to host three LAN events throughout the season (although due to COVID, only two of the proposed three went ahead as in-person events in Year 2). And the overall prize pot for the season remains at a healthy $5 million.

However, ALGS Year 3 will not be without some significant tweaks. For a start, the Pro League in each region will be shrinking from 40 teams (20 invited teams and 20 pre-season qualifier teams) to 30 (22 invited, eight pre-season qualifier teams). While this does mean fewer amateur teams will be able to qualify for the top tier of Apex Legends esports, ALGS commissioner John Nelson tells The Loadout why the decision has been made to narrow the field.
