Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X|S updates launching today

Respawn has unexpectedly announced the Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release date late on Monday evening, with the upgrades arriving tomorrow, March 29.


The upgrades will launch alongside the Warriors Collection event update and the return of Control in Apex Legends. However, while the upgrades' release date announcement came at an unexpected time ratings for the upgrades appeared earlier this year, suggesting they were on their way. We just didn't expect it to be so soon!


Players on either PS5 or Xbox Series X|S will only get a limited set of upgrades initially with more to be added down the line. Initially, PS5 and Xbox Series X players will get access to a 4K resolution mode, HDR support, 60 fps gameplay, improved resolution shadow maps, and a greater level of detail at longer distances in the environment. Xbox Series S players will only see an upgrade in the form of 60 fps gameplay and HDR support.

If you’ve been playing Apex Legends on your expensive new consoles - those being either the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S - you’ll be able to upgrade the popular battle royale from Respawn Entertainment to a new and improved version.

These improvements include 4K output, Full 60HZ gameplay, HDR, Higher Resolution Shadow Maps, and greater LOD Distances. As such, if you want the game to look at its absolute peak (unless of course you’ve got a juicy PC).

For PS5 players who want the upgrade, you’ll need to head to the PS5 dashboard and head to the options menu for Apex Legends. From there, move over to the “selection version” option and choose the new PS5 version in order to initiate the download containing all the new features.

Apex Legends Control - when is the Control LTM coming back to Apex?

When it comes to Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment is always innovating and the game's LTMs are often a fantastic place to witness this. Control, which was first introduced in Season 12, has proven to be one of the most popular LTMs yet - however, it was only available for a handful of weeks when it was first released. Apex Legends’ 9v9 Control Mode returns with the Warriors Collection Event

EA and Respawn Entertainment have announed a limited-time Warriors Collection Event is coming next week to Apex Legends.

From March 29 to April 12, the Warriors Collection Event will showcase the return of the 9v9 Control mode, a new map,cosmetics, and more.

With the event, the limited-time 9v9 mode Control is returning for two weeks, this time with the addition of Caustic Treatment on Kings Canyon. The Caustic Treatment has been converted into a three-point battleground for control over Kings Canyon. The battleground now comes with additional cover, ziplines, skydive launchers, a hover tank and more for increased balance and improved flow.
