Apex Legends dev reveals scrapped plans for Horizon's Gravity Lift

If you're a Horizon main in Apex Legends, you'll know how useful her tactical ability - Gravity Lift - can be. Reversing the flow of gravity, this ability lifts players 30 metres off the ground and throws them out into the air - which can be useful in both offensive and defensive situations. In its current form, Gravity Lift only pushes players up - however, that wasn't always the case. Apex Legends' lead software engineer, Chris Winder, has revealed that Respawn previously attempted to have Gravity Lift work in every direction.

In a Reddit post discussing legend buffs and nerfs, 'mufasakong' suggests a Horizon buff that would allow players to "attach [Gravity Lift] to any surface", which would push players in the direction the tactical is facing.

Responding to this, 'RV-GameplayChris' - who we identified as Winder - reveals that Respawn actually tried this while developing Horizon and her kit. "We tried this! It was crazy! And unpredictable", Winder says. However, it was simply "not that fun" when you take into account just how varied the terrain is in Apex Legends' maps.

Apex Legends Steam player count skyrockets to all-time high

Respawn's battle royale Apex Legends may have been released all the way back in 2019, but player statistics show that the game has just had its best month ever on Steam, with a peak player count of 392,998 - and that's only part of the story.

The statistics showing the best peak player count for February 2022 come from Steam Charts, a website that monitors how many players are playing games from the Steam database, including tracking average, peak, and concurrent player counts for each game across time.

You might have realised, then, that these numbers don't include the activity of individuals who play Apex Legends on other platforms. So not only does this not include the numerous versions of the game on consoles like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, but these figures also don't show how many people play the game through Origin, EA's own storefront.

Apex Legends streamer Timmy 'iiTzTimmy' An is gearing up for an epic duos stream with American singer-songwriter Post Malone for the latest streamer-celebrity collaboration on Twitch. and everyone's hyped - including the official Apex Legends social media account, sounding off with a "YOOOOO" at the announcement.

There's no denying that Apex Legends is one of the best FPS games out there right now - hundreds of thousands of players jump into Respawn Entertainment's battle royale every day and the Circles singer is one of them. In a recent Billboard interview, Post Malone expressed his love for Apex Legends - even offering fans a glimpse at his "sick-ass Wingman shots".

Since then, Apex Legends fans and Post Malone fans alike have been treated to clips of the rapper gunning for dubs - to mixed success. Last month, in a TikTok, he admitted he's having trouble trying to "body everyone", but that hasn't stopped him. With a duos stream lined up with iiTzTimmy, it looks like Post could get that dub he's after.

Apex Legends players discover more ways to destroy Wraith portals

Apex Legends players have been aware for a while now that Loba's ultimate ability, Black Market Boutique, can be used to destroy a Wraith portal when placed directly on top of it. However, recently, players are discovering that she's not the only one with an unusual counter for a Wraith portal in Apex Legends. Both Revenant and Maggie can also use their abilities to get rid of Wraith's Dimensional Rift.

Reddit user 'RossBobSquirrel', someone known for finding interesting mechanics and glitches in Apex Legends, reveals that Revenant's Death Totem can be used in the same way as Loba's Black Market Boutique to destroy a Wraith portal. All you need to do is use the ability and place the Death Totem on the same spot as the portal.

With the revelation that another legend can counter Wraith's portals, Redditors dove into the comments to share their findings when it comes to the rest of Apex Legends' roster.

Apex Legends dev says it has fixed broken mythic Bloodhound skin

February 23, 2022 Respawn has issued a fix for the Bloodhound prestige skin challenge reset. The headline and copy has been updated to reflect this.

Apex Legends' Anniversary collection event kicked off earlier this week, but it's not all happy celebrations for Bloodhound players - despite the fact that they have a new mythic-rarity skin to unlock. The skin's high value of around $160 is dividing fans on its own, but there are also reports that the skin's challenge tracking is broken. Thankfully, this issue has been quickly addressed by Respawn Entertainment.

Bloodhound's new Apex Hunter skin has three tiers of challenges for players to unlock, each offering a different take on the skin's core design. Tier 1 can be unlocked by completing the Anniversary collection event - the same way you would be able to unlock an heirloom item. Tier 2 and Tier 3, however, are unlocked through in-game challenges. This skin's challenges are all about dealing damage while playing as Bloodhound.

This sounds straightforward, but a lot of players are struggling to actually complete the challenge. There are multiple reports of the challenge tracking being broken. Cloud9's Paris 'StayNaughty' Gouzoulis tweeted their challenge tracker being stuck at "-1/-1" - a clear issue.
