Fortnite Wolfscent ability borrows from Apex Legends' Bloodhound

We know games like Fortnite and Apex Legends are both considered among some of the best battle royale games out there, but they really couldn't be any more different. Well, most of the time, anway. This Fortnightmares, though, Epic Games is borrowing a little something from Respawn Entertainment in the form of the Fortnite Wolfscent ability. This unique feature attributed to the Howler Claws, which are only available in-game during the Fortnightmares event, bear a striking resemblance to parts of Bloodhound's kit, a tracker from Apex Legends. Allow us to explain.

When you have Fortnite's Howler Claws equipped, you can activate something called Wolfscent. Available for a limited time before a cooldown period, this ability will give you tracking vision and repeatedly mark enemies in a nearby area. Does this sound at all familiar? Well, if you play Apex Legends, it might. This sounds like a strange amalgamation of Bloodhound's Eye of the Allfather tactical and Beast of the Hunt ultimate.

Interestingly, to balance this ability, Epic Games has introduced something of a Dead By Daylight-esque heartbeat that will start when you're being tracked by someone else using the Wolfscent ability's tracking vision and grow louder the closer they get.

Apex Legends' Catalyst is a terraformer coming for Gibraltar's crown

Hold up, battle royale fans. Apex Legends' next playable character has been revealed and her name is Catalyst. We know Respawn Entertainment has created one of the best battle royale games out there, but it feels as though it is continually raising the bar with each new addition to the roster. Catalyst is Apex Legends' first trans character and she's coming for Gibraltar's crown as king of the defensive legends. No disrespect to Newcastle, of course.

Described as an "experienced terraformer and defensive conjurer" by Respawn Entertainment here, Catalyst was a hero long before she found herself with the ability to "manipulate the battlefield" with ferrofluid. However, an explosive accident caused by her over-zealous anti-Hammond Robotics activist friend has left her with a strange new power that we can't wait to see in action.

In the latest Stories from the Outlands short, titled Last Hope, we see Catalyst trying to find out what happened to the aforementioned friend in a conversation with Rampart. While it is a wonderfully emotive way to introduce the character to Apex Legends' rich universe, we still don't know what exactly she's capable of in-game.
