Sneak peek at next major update

Hi everyone! The update coming at the end of this month will revolve around adding overworld content, new weapons, armor, enemies and new skills.

Here’s a quick look at what’s going to be in the May update:

New Hosting contracts

A new type of contract available in the overworld, players are tasked with entertaining a VIP for one of MoonFall’s factions. Running a Guild Hall is never easy, and anything can happen. From being involved in attempted assassinations to getting invited to the odd orgy, it’s your job to make sure the VIP has a good time.

And presumably leave your Guild Hall alive.

New Faction-specific Contracts

Once you reach a certain point in a faction quest chain (usually pretty early on), that faction’s overworld HQ will open Faction-specific Contracts for you.

Faction-specific Contracts allow you to earn more Credits, Esteem and faction reputation than regular or hosting contracts, but are generally more difficult to complete.

There is a short planning phase where players can try to even their odds by spending resources, and then an execution phase where the player determines what types of tactics they will use. The method of execution will result in bonuses depending on the type of enemy they face. For example, more cautious tactics generally work better against better-trained mercenaries, whereas shock and awe are effective against low-level street thugs.

  • Stormbreakers - Bodyguard contracts
  • Iron Cartel - Heist contracts
  • Old Watch - Bounty contracts
  • Travelers Mandate - Monster Hunt Contracts

New Items!

Almost all existing items have been rebalanced and modified.

I have also expanded the game’s gun shop from just selling a few items to a much wider array of weapons, armor and mods. Most weapons will give your character a new skill reflective of the weapon’s class. For example, submachine guns will give the Running Cover skill, which increases your move points and make you slightly harder to hit.

  • New gun categories include pistols, smgs, flechette guns, rifles, assault rifles, SMART guns, and more!
  • New melee categories include knives, swords, axes, polearms, hammers and more.
  • Added channels - weapons that only Shapers can use.
  • Additionally, shields have been added to the game.
  • New armor is also available. Light armor will increase your move points while heavy armor will lower it (but provide much better protection).
  • Mods can now be purchased, allowing you to add attachments to guns, melee weapons and armor.
  • Lastly, I have added three body augmentations to Golgo’s Shop.

I will continue adding new equipment and augmentations throughout development, so the current roster of items is only the tip of the iceberg.

New location - Pike’s Library

Added a new mysterious location on the overworld map that will appear once the player reaches 20 Esteem. It’s a bit of a mysterious place with more functions that will be unlocked as dev continues. As its name suggests, the Library will be a source of world lore once that gets added to the game.

As always, the new content patch will probably introduce a new batch of bugs and will not be terribly well-balanced (for combat). The full changelog will be available when the update releases.

0.17.4 Content Update

Hi everyone! This is a relatively small content update as I’m gearing up for a much larger one next month that will make the overworld gameplay more interesting and stable. Big changes in this one are the ability to change player appearances, and the new level 3 perks for all the Guild Hall upgrades.

As always, let me know if you have questions or suggestions. I DO actually act on player suggestions and feedback. Some of the below changes are direct responses to what players want in the game. This is why the game is in Early Access :D.

Also a note about version numbers, they're not reflective of the state of the game since I don't use a standard convention.

New Features:

  • New player appearance sprites added to character creation
  • New ability to change player appearance added to Golgo’s Augmentation Shop in Saint Gorfu
  • Added attributes (ATH, PER, CHA, TEC) to cheats on the PC in the player’s room.
  • Added new room: Garage
  • Kaywin relocated to garage
  • Expanded glory hole options for privacy booths
  • Initial fight with Butch now more avoidable

Level 3 upgrades now available for all Guild Hall facilities and staff rooms. Level 3 upgrades also come with unique perks and options.

Privacy Booths Level 3: Special Access

You can now service clients on the other side of a glory hole, if that’s your thing. Female and male clients available. Can earn a very small amount of credits.

Diner Level 3: Companion meals, Expanded menus

Have a meal with a companion for some unique dialogue and a one-time trust bonus.

Blood Pit Level 3: Esteem revenue bonus

Earn additional revenue based on your Esteem (adds Esteem to Salary). Can be toggled off.

Strip Club Level 3: Irresistible

Large roll bonus to all contracts that take place in your Guild Hall (will take effect when the large Overworld update rolls out with Hosting contracts). Can be toggled off.

Administrative Office Level 3: Bribes

Gain the ability to pay bribes to Factions to increase your reputation with them.

Janitor’s Room Level 3: Friend of the Working Class

Small chance of a roll bonus on all Overworld contracts. Can be toggled off.

Break Room Level 3: Silver Tongue

Moderate chance to bribe Pursuers from attacking you (will take effect when Pursuers are added to the game.) Can be toggled off.

Security Office Level 3: Esteem Generation

Generates a small amount of Esteem every day. Can be toggled off.

Devblog: Heists, Bounties, Hunts, Bodyguarding

Hi everyone! Towards the end of this month there will be an update introducing some new features and new Guild Hall upgrades (with various new perks ranging from being able to bribe factions to… expanding glory hole options, if you’re into that sort of thing).

But what I’m really excited about is the expansion of freeroam content (and fixing the bugs so freeroam is more stable).

Specifically, I’m excited about Faction-specific Contracts, which are unlocked once you do a mission or two in that faction’s quest chain.

Let’s focus on one type in particular: Heists.

Heists are offered by the Iron Cartel, who are open to expendable, outside talent.

When you undertake a heist, you are given some information: what you’re stealing, where you’re stealing it from, and who’s guarding it. After that, you’re on your own.

Planning Phase

Unlike most other Contracts, Faction-specific ones come with different phases. During the planning phase, you’ll be able to prepare for the heist with options such as buying disposable tools, calling in favors, casing a location, rehearsing a heist, etc. All of these options will cost a resource (money, Esteem, faction reputation, SP), but will improve your chances of successfully pulling off the heist.

Execution Phase

During the execution phase, you’ll be able to choose how to carry out the heist. Different tactics work better depending on the type of enemy you’ll be facing.

You could go in the traditional way, going in through an unguarded door, staying away from patrols and retrieve the package undetected. This will be most effective against syndicate enforcers, who are well-trained and armed, but lacking the caution and discipline of corporate or military units.

Before you get too excited, I should add that most of this is in text, at least until the...

Encounter Roll

When you are ready to go forward with the Heist, all the bonuses you’ve selected so far, in addition to your preferred tactic, will be calculated in a simple skill check to determine the result of the missions.

If everything goes well, you may just retrieve the package and leave completely unnoticed.

If you are noticed by guards or the security system, you might have to fight your way out. Be aware, combat in Faction-specific Contracts will be significantly harder than other contracts you may have taken so far.

If things get too rough, there is always the option to cancel the contract.
