Community Event Wrap-Up

Hello exterminators!

KIWF has now been updated to allow exterminators to solve the community event puzzle on their own. It works exactly the same way: get the blacklight and search for hidden clues in every level except “Down the Spider Hole”. But, rather than report your clues to Discord you’ll just use them on the code grid in the secret bunker. Everyone has their own random code. If you’ve already solved the puzzle, you don’t need to do anything - unless you decide to start a new save file!
Save Files
Over the last couple weeks I’ve heard scattered reports of players losing their save files. I haven’t been able to get to the bottom of the issue, but I have created a way to restore your save. Right click on Kill It With Fire in your Steam library and choose “Properties”. On the menu that appears there should be a field labeled “Launch Options” (If you don’t see it, make sure you’re on the “General” tab). In the “Launch Options” field, enter the following EXACTLY (minus the quotes): “-AutoCompleteLevels X”. Now, replace X with the number of the level you’d like to complete the game through. For example, if you’d like to complete Domestic Duties, replace X with 3. To complete the entire game, replace X with 10.

Once you launch the game, it should automatically adjust your save file to 100% complete those levels. That means beating the level, completing all objectives, unlocking all doors, discovering all equipment/upgrades/batteries/files, and completing the Arachno-Gauntlet. This will only work in the first save slot. Once you’ve restored your save, please close the game and delete what you’ve entered into “Launch Options”.
What else is new?
I’ve adjusted the spider’s AI so they behave much less predictably. Skip to the next paragraph if you’re uninterested in the guts of how KIWF works. Still with me? Great! Previously, the spiders moved at random between a series of “hand placed” points. If you ever killed a huge number of spiders in a small space, you may have picked up on this. The change I’ve made allows spiders to instead choose a random destination around those points within a radius defined by the point (a large radius for a point in the middle of the room, a small radius for a point on top of a shelf, etc). It makes the spiders seem more unpredictable and I love the results. Let me know what you think! Also, if you see any spiders running into walls please let me know so I can sort ‘em out.

I’ve fixed a few other bugs here and there. You shouldn’t be able to get on the mower while using the spider tracker (that crashed the game before - oops!). Also, if you’ve already completed the “Fix Electrical Problem” objective in Major Inconvenience, you should find the door already open next time you load into the level.

I think that wraps it up for now. I hope everyone enjoyed the community event. And, if you missed it, I hope you enjoy the new version of the puzzle! What do you want to see next for Kill It With Fire? Let me know on Twitter (and smush that follow button) or come say hello in the Discord.

Until next time!

Community Event Puzzle Solved!!!

Excellent job, exterminators!

It took you fewer than four hours to solve the puzzle. Frankly, I was shocked; I expected it to take all weekend - maybe even longer. It’s difficult to know exactly how many players participated (the Discord chat was going so fast I could barely read it!) but I’d estimate at least 100, possibly twice that number.

There are a couple exterminators in particular that deserve special recognition. First, LilithGalac created an amazing spreadsheet. This was pivotal for tracking all of the clues submitted by other players. Without her quick thinking and even quicker organizing, I suspect the puzzle would have taken much, much longer to solve. Also, let’s give a shout out to CremLeBote for being the first to actually solve the puzzle and claim the prize. He was able to “brute force” the answer once about 95% of the clues had been submitted - smart! LilithGalac and CremLeBote will each receive a game of their choice from TinyBuild’s catalog along with some KIWF merch.

Here’s a screenshot of the answer. Once again, great job, everyone!!!

Disclaimer: this code no longer works and each player will get a randomized puzzle in-game!

So, what do you get for solving the puzzle? Nothing less than the most powerful spider killing weapon ever created: the shoe. Of course, this is no ordinary shoe - its sole absorbs the souls of the spiders it squishes, becoming ever more deadly. It starts off weak, but if you take it to max power, you’ll be able to wreak havoc.

For those of you that weren’t able to participate - don’t worry! On Thursday, August 26th I’ll be patching the game to remove the “community” aspect of the puzzle. At that point, everyone’s game will get their own unique code, allowing exterminators to solve the mystery on their own.

In addition to addressing a few minor issues, I’ve heard scattered reports of players losing their save files after crashes. Until I track down the issue, I’d like to give you a way to access a “fully unlocked” save if yours does become corrupted somehow. Stay tuned for instructions when the patch drops on the 26th.

Until then, if you do experience a crash I’d love to see your crash log. Go to C:/Users/yourusername/AppData/Local/Kani/Saved/Logs/, zip up all of the .log files, and email them to [email protected]. Without information, it’s really hard to fix stuff, so every log that I receive helps!

Did you like the event? Do you want to see more in the future? Let me know on Twitter (@caseydonnellan don’t forget to SMASH that follow button) or drop by the Discord. Until next time!

Anniversary Update is here!

Rev up your engines, exterminators - the Anniversary Update is here! It has been an amazing year for Kill It With Fire and Casey Donnellan Games, so I wanted to do something special for everyone who has joined me on this spider roasting journey.

There’s an entire NEW LEVEL for you to rid of spiders along with new gear, upgrades, achievements, and the first ever Kill It With Fire “Community Event.” Let’s break it down - if you’re worried about spoilers, stop reading now!
Last warning!
The new mission, “Down the Spider Hole” takes place just after “Domestic Duties” and allows you to explore the yard around the house from the first three missions. As you may have guessed, it’s lousy with spiders. Fortunately, with a new level comes new opportunities for spider murdering mayhem.

A new cheese puff flavor is on the scene: Best Buds Blueberry. “Ew, blueberry cheese puffs?” Well it turns out spiders have less discerning palettes. Get one to chow down and they’ll become your new BFF. These Spider Bros know your heart’s desire and will mercilessly pursue any spider they see. And don’t worry - if you tire of your spider army you can always relieve them of duty...permanently.

The next item you’ll find in the new mission is the Drone. This was added during the “Omega Files” update last year and available during the epilogue mission, once you completed enough Arachno-Gauntlets. It’s so much fun, though, I’ve decided to move it to earlier in the game. You’re also gonna need it during the new mission to find everything…

All that lawn and nobody home to mow - it would be neighborly to “borrow” their Mower and tidy up. If some spiders get in the way...well, isn’t there an old saying about throwing rocks at birds? This isn’t your grandpa’s old push mower - you’re getting a riding lawnmower with serious horsepower. Still not enough speed? Equip the NOS upgrade to go fast and make the spiders furious. Once you’re done mowing the lawn, take her for a spin in the other missions!

That brings us to the Community Event. I won’t get into specifics, even for people who want spoilers, but I will say a few things. To get started, look for something NEW where the Drone was previously located. After that, you’ll need to combine your clues with other Exterminators to find the answer.
Make sure you join the Discord - that’s where it’s all gonna happen!

Anything else new? Duh!

 • Added a trampoline
 • Added spider holes
 • Added a new Omega File
 • Added “Asbestos Chitin” upgrade
 • Added “Echolocator” tracker upgrade
 • Added a ladder mechanic
 • Revised mission selection menu visuals
 • Added new camera angles for choosing save slot, viewing Omega Files
 • Revised the Arachno-scope visual effect
 • Fixed a bug where the drone spawned out of bounds when using Tiny Mode

Phew, that was a long one! Before you go, make sure to follow me on Twitter and tell me how much you love the new update - I’m a glutton for positive feedback! Maybe if you’re nice, I’ll give you some extra clues!!!

Anniversary Update Incoming!!!

Hello exterminators!

It has been a while and I’ve been busy, busy, busy. First, I’m excited to announce that I’ve spent most of 2021 (so far!) working on a completely new game. It’s an awesome, unique concept but very different from KIWF, so I hope some of you are willing to take a chance on it when the time comes! I won’t say too much more, except that it won’t be ready this year, partly because…
Kill It With Fire is getting its biggest ever update on August 13th!
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since KIWF launched, but here we are! I’ve done a couple smaller updates - the Omega Files, the Holiday Update - but this is the BIG ONE. How big? We’re talking NEW LEVEL BIG.

“Down The Spider Hole” (a name that has multiple meanings...you’ll see...) takes place between the old 3rd and 4th missions (“Domestic Duties” and “Major Inconvenience”) and explores an environment you’ve seen but never visited - the backyard.

Of course, with a new level comes a ton of other new stuff: three types of equipment, a flavor, three upgrades, a spider type, achievements, objectives, batteries - the whole nine yards! But that’s not all! This update brings something never before seen in KIWF - a community event!

This update contains a puzzle so huge, it’s going to take a whole army of exterminators to solve. I don’t want to ruin the surprise so I won’t say too much more, but of all the new content this is what I’m most excited about. If you haven’t done so already, take a moment to join the official Kill It With Fire Discord if you want to participate!!!

That’s all for now, exterminators! Mark your calendars for August 13th! Until then be sure to follow me on Twitter and let me know how excited you are for the new update!

Yours truly,
Casey Donnellan

First and foremost, you will OF COURSE get to keep all of your presents! Never found that last ornament? Working on a new save file? Don't worry, I've got you covered: there's still one tree left in the game. Find and decorate it to receive ALL of the holiday gifts at once!

One last thing: if you haven't heard yet, Kill It With Fire is now available to Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, iOS, and Android! Pretty cool, huh?!
