Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Enhanced Edition News

Of stone and metal

In the lands of Mendev, you can meet members of many Golarion peoples. And while aasimar inspire admiration and tieflings are viewed with suspicion and mistrust, some peoples remain an unsolved mystery. Suchare the oreads, a people whose ancestry has been touched by the element of earth.

Most often, the ancestors of oreads are shaitans, proud and beautiful genies whose traits are visible in their descendants. However, an oread may also be born through the influence of elemental energies, interplanar travel, and other interactions with the Plane of Earth.

For the most part, oreads tend to a solitary life and rarely act on the impulse of a moment. It is not their custom to go in search of adventure out of boredom or a thirst for danger. However, if compelled to action, they are nearly unstoppable. For example, an oread crusader will be wholeheartedly devoted to their cause. The commander in Wrath of the Righteous may prove to be one of them.

There are several lineages of oreads. The most dazzling and eye-catching are the gemsouls. These oreads are often characterized by a haughty attitude and flashy behavior. They have an interest in the arts and show an appreciation of refined beauty. With their radiant faceted skin, crystalline formations in place of hair, and eyes of bright colors without pupils, they truly resemble the precious stones that adorn any society.

Ironsoul oreads look and behave quite differently. Stolid and self-possessed, ironsoul oreads undertake the most difficult physical and conceptual works with unwavering tenacity. Possessing patience and a sense of grace, ironsouls reflect their ancestry through their continuous striving toward self-improvement. Their skin is a metallic shade of gold, silver, or copper green.

Oreads make devout clerics or disciplined monks, and as rangers or druids, they protect their secluded mountain domains. Their slow speed is not ideal for roles that require agility, and oread rogues prefer to plan meticulously rather than act on a whim, as a single misstep could spell the end of their mission.

Indarah, an oread warrior from Garund and an expert on military history and warfare, is a typical example of her kind. Many of you met her in the tavern of Kenabres and defeated her in a philosophical debate, receiving an unusual gift. But perhaps the Commander of the Fifth Crusade was also an oread? Let us know!

Update 1.3.3e

Pathfinders!

We’ve prepared a hot-fix for the problem some of you have been experiencing since yesterday, that is, when your party kept following you in the hubs, like the tavern, crusader’s camp, Drezen and so on. Your companions will relax now and stop following you. Another issue this fix addresses is that some bosses had treacherous minions who were helping you in battles—now they will be hostile to you. We’ve also fixed the Blooming Meadow location.

We apologize for the inconvenience and wish you a happy crusade!

What Does the Fox Say?

Of all the races that took part in the Fifth Crusade, the rarest and most exotic, of course, are the kitsune, the fox folk.

Kitsune resemble anthropomorphic foxes, but they are also able to shapeshift into human form. Hence, the nickname "werefoxes".

Kitsune are known for their love of all things connected to trickery: from harmless pranks to grand schemes involving robbery or fraud.

The kitsunes’ inherent playfulness also helps them communicate with and make connections among the many races of Golarion. Bard is a fairly common career path among fox folk.

And lest we forget the kitsunes’ magical talents, they are not limited to their ability to change form. Many foxes choose to bind their lives to magic. One in a thousand kitsune has the potential to reach the peak of magical powers inherent in their race. If one of these especially talented foxes decides to develop her abilities, she will begin to grow additional tails over time. Her tails, up to nine in total, store some of her magical energy.

Little is known about the kitsune homeland, Tian Xia. This mysterious continent is located far from Avistan and the Inner Sea. The few stories we have sound more like legends and myths than reality. The kitsune themselves playfully encourage this aura of mystery. Despite this, adventurous fox folk can be found in the most unexpected of places, including in Mendev and the Fifth Crusade.

[i ] "I'm a child of a passionate and curious people. We live everywhere, you are just… not always aware of our existence".
Lady Konomi

Though kitsune are common throughout Golarion, foxes often hide in human form in the presence of other races. This is mostly due to their reputation as tricksters and "untrustworthy elements". Sometimes, this goes hilariously wrong.

"Truly, we kitsune are incapable of normalcy. We find our passion and surrender to it entirely, mind and soul."
Lady Konomi

Every kitsune, which finds herself on a path leading to Mendev, has her own reasons to be there. Some, like Lady Konomi, are driven by the love of the political dance of negotiation, war, and intrigue. In Nenio's case, it was the desire, nearly an obsession, to compile the most detailed encyclopedia ever written about Golarion. And the Commander of the Fifth Crusade has even more options for an unhealthy fixation: the art of warfare, the magical secrets of the abyss, and anything else you could imagine. Which will your kitsune choose?
