Dev Diary #5: Territory Mode Battle Groups

Troopers! It’s about time for a big intel drop on the upcoming Territory Mode.

A lot of work is going into the new game mode behind the screens. In today’s Dev Diary we will delve deeper into the concept of Battle Groups, and how these form the core of the Territory Mode experience.
New modes, new menus
The introduction of the new game mode has necessitated a redesign of the main menu. We’ve already highlighted this in a previous Dev Diary, but further changes have been made based on player feedback and new design requirements.

When clicking the “GO TO WAR!” button, a new screen will require you to select a game mode: Story campaigns, challenge missions or Territory Mode.
Battle Group selection
After entering Territory Mode, next you’ll be presented with the Battle Group selection screen. The base game and each DLC will come with its own Battle Group - each featuring a unique theme and set of exclusive units, mechanics and technologies. In this screen, you can also access a summarized information overview for each of the available Battle Groups.
Battle Group missions & progression
Choose your Battle Group and you’ll enter the “Mission Selection Screen”. In this screen, missions will be available for you to accept on Kwalasha - the base game’s planet - or any of the planets from the DLCs that you own. This means that, regardless of which Battle Group you have selected, you can fight in any environment and against all Arachnid unit types that the game and DLCs offer. As we continue to release new DLC, this variety will only expand.

Missions not only vary by planet, but also by starting tier, map type, objectives and Arachnid threats you’re expected to encounter.

The first time you start playing with a Battle Group, only a limited set of basic units and technologies will be available during the early missions. As you complete missions, however, you will unlock new unit types, new technologies and more complex, higher tier missions will become available. But beware, new Arachnid types and threats will also activate as you progress with the selected Battle Group.

Once you launch the selected mission, you’ll be taken into battle.
Playing a Mission
A quick summary about Territory Mode gameplay: you capture territory points to acquire resources over time. These can be used to deploy units, call for reinforcements and to acquire new technologies. Technologies provide access to new unit types or apply upgrades that expand the performance or abilities of your units. For more information, see our previously released Dev Diaries.

Each Battle Group has its own set of technologies and unit types. Some of these may be shared with other Battle Groups, but many are exclusive and thus offer unique challenges and gameplay experiences.

The following screenshots show the different content available to the “Ground Pounders” - available as part of the base game - and the “Hellraisers” - available with the Raising Hell DLC. Note that this content is still in development and may differ once the Territory Mode is officially released.

The Technologies available during your mission depend on the mission's maximum Battle Tier, and is restricted to the content you have unlocked in the “Mission Selection Screen”.

If you manage to achieve all primary objectives - or fail a critical objective - the mission will end and you'll be taken back to the Mission Selection Screen. If a victory was achieved, new content may unlock. But regardless of the outcome, new generated missions will become available to choose - so you’ll always have new challenges ready to accept.

That’s all for now on Territory Mode, Trooper. For a final bit of news: Next month we’ll be announcing a new roadmap update - including still unannounced DLC content!

Territory Mode - Dev Diary #4

Troopers!

A lot of work is happening behind the scenes to bring major improvements to the upcoming Territory Mode. Today, we’re excited to share a few new teasers with you!
Territory Mode Progression
We're currently focused on refining Territory Mode to enhance gameplay depth and variety. Our key priorities include:
 • Improved onboarding – Ensuring that mechanics, units, and challenges unique to the new mode are introduced more gradually and intuitively.
 • Greater mission variety – Developing a system that supports diverse objectives and dynamic narrative events for a more varied experience.
 • New Territory Mode maps – The base game and all DLCs will receive their own sets of new maps specifically crafted for the new mode, greatly expanding their value and replayability.
New Raising Hell maps
We are currently using the Raising Hell DLC as an example case for these Territory Mode refinements. The screenshots below show a few of the new Territory Mode maps we are adding to this DLC. Each map has been carefully designed to challenge your strategic skills and keep you on your toes against the Arachnid threat.
Chariots Constructing Nests
To wrap up this Dev Diary, here’s a sneak peek at one of the Arachnids' new abilities in Territory Mode:

Chariot Bugs can now spawn from hives and move across the map to build static defenses. After claiming territory, they can construct structures such as Drone Nests, Hornet Nests, and Stinger Lairs. Tread carefully and always watch your perimeter—a small group of unassuming Chariots, left unchecked, can quickly erupt into a swarm of much more dangerous Arachnids!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Territory Mode - Dev Diary #3

Welcome back, Troopers!

It has been two months since we rolled out the Open Beta for Territory Mode, and over 10,000 of you have already joined the fight. We want to send a big thank-you to everyone who’s been battling the Arachnids and sending us invaluable feedback. Your reports from the frontlines continue to shape and improve Territory Mode.

We’re now focusing on making the mode easier to learn, refining difficulty, and adding more content. Meanwhile, we’re also working behind the scenes on our next DLC - but that’s a story for another day.
A Note from the Engineering Corps: Savegames
We’ve heard your requests, and our engineers have been hard at work behind the scenes to add savegame support for Territory Mode. This upgrade means you’ll be able to save your progress and pick up right where you left off - no more losing hours of hard-fought territory gains because a sneaky Tanker decided to pop out of nowhere! We know you’ll appreciate fewer “rough moments” on the road to crushing the Arachnids.
Turret Troubles and Triumphs
One of the recent changes in Territory Mode is how turrets now behave when destroyed by Bugs. Rather than exploding into a pile of scrap, they enter a “disabled mode”. Technicians, Engineers - or the fancy new repair drones, see below - can bring them back online, preserving any precious upgrades you invested in. Additionally, our artist is hard at work on improved visuals for these disabled turrets. You’ll be able to tell at a glance which turrets can be repaired and returned to combat readiness, making it easier than ever to rebuild your defensive line after a crushing Arachnid assault.
New Turret upgrade: Repair Drone
In tandem with the turret visual improvements comes the Repair Drone - a nifty upgrade you can requisition for your Mortar Turret. Once unlocked, this flying friend will buzz around a radius, actively patching up damaged turrets. It’s the perfect backup when the frontlines are swarming and your Combat Engineers are busy clearing out Bug hives.
More to Come
We’ve been flooded (in a good way!) with feedback and player data from your two months in the field, and there’s still more on the horizon. We can’t wait to share future updates, balance tweaks, and brand-new surprises as Territory Mode continues to evolve. Keep those reports coming, Troopers.

Haven’t joined the Open Beta yet? Suit up and help us refine Territory Mode into the best experience it can be. With every Bug squashed, every turret repaired, and every feedback form submitted, you’re helping the Federation stay one step ahead of the Arachnid threat.

Service guarantees citizenship. Now, get back out there and do your part!

Territory Mode Beta - Major Update

Troopers, Assemble!

Today, as part of the RTS-Fest celebration, we have released a major update for the Territory Mode Open Beta. This includes balance changes, new features, new gameplay mechanics and new Territory Maps.
Open Beta Update
The Open Beta has been live for three weeks, and we’ve received invaluable feedback—thank you to all participants!
A detailed roadmap is coming soon, but for now, expect monthly updates with more maps, technologies, battle groups, and gameplay improvements. Your feedback is essential as we refine gameplay, balance, and technical stability. Keep it coming!
For those who need a quick recap: Territory Mode is a new game mode specifically designed for replayability. You fight the Arachnids over Territory Points on maps specifically crafted for Territory Mode. These points reward the player with the necessary resources required to purchase units, replace casualties and invest in new technologies.
Main menu update
To support and present the new Territory Mode and all of its content, the main menu has been updated with a new content overview menu. This screen provides easy access to all content - Campaigns, Territory Mode and Challenge Missions - from the base game and the current and future DLCs.
New Territory Maps
Today’s update adds three new Territory Maps, doubling the amount that was previously available. This new set includes the first two maps that are exclusive to DLC owners.
 • Runway Rage: The Arachnids have overrun this air base, leaving many TAC Fighters stranded on the runway. This map is available for free as part of the base game.
 • Hotbed: We’ve established your base on top of a volcano to show the Bugs that we are not afraid! This map requires the Raising Hell DLC.
 • Party Crash: Evict the Bugs from the narrow streets, rooftops and metro stations of Mahanagar's nightlife district. This map requires the Urban Onslaught DLC.
