Major Update v0.9.0

Hello all Wobblies!

Welcome to the v0.9.0 Update!

Arcade Mode is here. You’ve all seen the button on the menu, and now you can play it!

This update is a bit different to our normal updates, it has sort of been like creating a brand new game. We’re really excited for you all to play it with your friends and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it!

We’re also super excited to be releasing the first version of our mod tools. We can’t wait to see what people can create with them!

Arcade

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Arcade Lobby

Arcade is the main feature of this update. It has been in the works for a very long time. Arcade isn’t just one game mode, Arcade has 4 official modes for you to play: Trash Zone, Hide & Seek, Wobble Run and Sandbox. Each of these modes also has customizable settings for you to play around with!

Trash Zone

Trash Zone is an asymmetric party game where one player (the Trasher) will attempt to knock the other players (the Trash) into a trash compactor to knock them out. They will do this by throwing objects down into the ‘Trash Zone’, launching them at the other players. The Trash players have to dodge these objects until the timer runs out.

If the Trasher knocks all the players out, then they win. But if any of the Trash players survive until the end of the timer, then they win. Any players who get pushed into the trash compactor spawn back in and can help the Trasher take out the remaining players.

We hope this gamemode will be a new experience for Wobbly Life players and a load of fun to play with friends.

To find out more about Trash Zone read our Arcade Development Preview #1.

Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek is a mode where one player is the “Seeker”, and the rest of the players are the “Hiders”.

When the game starts the Hiders have a short time to go find somewhere to hide. The Seeker stays behind a locked door while they go and hide.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Left - A Seeker in the locked room. Right - A Hider hiding in a box

Once the hiding timer reaches zero the door unlocks and the Seeker is released to go find the Hiders.

To catch a Hider the Seeker needs to grab them, and if the Seeker catches all the Hiders before the timer runs out then the Seeker wins. But if any Hiders manage to evade the Seeker until the timer runs out then they win.

When a Hider is caught, they spectate until the end of the game.

Hide and Seek has 4 maps: Quarry, Office, Village and Jungle.

To find out more about Hide & Seek read our Arcade Development Preview #2.

Wobble Run

Wobble Run is a race through colorful obstacle courses. Players will need to jump, dodge, grab and wobble their way to victory. The first Wobbly over the finish line wins!

Wobble Run courses are made up of different obstacles each with their own challenges. Compete against your friends to see who can get the best time!

Wobble Run has 10 courses for you to compete in. Below are some screenshots of our favorites!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wobble Run courses

The courses vary in difficulty and each one will have unique challenges. You can also adjust timers, weather and enable/disable checkpoints in the settings.

To find out more about Wobble Run read our Arcade Development Preview #3.

Sandbox

Sandbox mode is the physics playground you always wanted. Spawn Objects & Vehicles using the Sandbox Menu and let your imagination run wild. Want to know what would happen if you blew up 50 TNT’s inside a bouncy castle? Well now you can find out!

Sandbox has 4 maps for you to play around with: Empty, Large Bedroom, City & Stadium. The Sandbox menu also features settings to alter player speed and jump strength, as well as a noclip mode.

Mods

The other side of the Arcade mode are Mods. This is the first beta version of our mods tools. These are only available to Steam users and use the Steam Workshop.

Mods allow you to create your own experiences using our mod tools via the Unity game engine - this could be your own gamemode or a custom world for you to mess around with the physics… it’s completely up to you!

To create a mod you use the Wobbly Life Mod SDK. You can find documentation for it here. We plan to add more functionality to the SDK and update the documentation in the future.

Mod demo versions of the Trash Zone and Quarry Hide and Seek maps can be found here for reference. The mod SDK allows modders to create their own sandbox maps too! Please note that creating your own custom game modes will require some coding experience.

We hope the modders out there will get stuck in and make amazing Wobbly Life content for all you PC players to enjoy!

Emotes

We’ve added loads of new emotes to the emote wheel. The wheel is now divided into 4 sections each with 4 to 6 emotes in it. We hope you all enjoy these new emotes, we’ve had great fun making them!

Updated Main Menu

The Main Menu has had a complete redesign and is now set on Granny’s street in the main game world. The redesign should make it easier to start and find game sessions in the two different game types; World and Arcade.

Performance Improvements

This update includes some massive improvements to physics and rendering performance. Almost all users should get a boost to FPS regardless of platform.

We’ve also added a “Chunk Distance (host only)” option in the settings for PC users. This controls the distance objects will load/unload. Note that this setting is server wide and only the hosts setting has any effect. Lowering this setting can give a big boost to performance at the cost of render distance and despawning objects.

Console Graphical Improvements

All console versions now have bloom on certain lights. This means those lights will now glow.

We’ve also added ambient occlusion to all console versions which improves shading and graphical depth for the whole game.

Merch

Don’t forget we’ve got merch!

We have more stuff coming to the store very soon so keep an eye out for that.

Development Preview: Arcade #3

Hello all Wobblies!

Welcome to the third development preview, our way of keeping you all up to date with development of the next major update. This time we’re introducing another Arcade mode, “Wobble Run”.

Note: All of this content is still in active development and so isn’t final and could change!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀       A Wobble Run course

To keep things fair Wobblies cannot grab each other in Wobble Run. Also a lot of the obstacles in Wobble Run cannot be grabbed unless they require grabbing to get past them.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀    Grabbable barrel obstacle

Once the first player has passed the finish line, a countdown timer starts. Any players who haven’t passed the finish line when the countdown reaches 0 are eliminated.

Checkpoints

If you fall or get knocked off the course don’t panic! You will respawn at the last checkpoint you reached.

Progress Bar

Want to know who’s just behind you? Or see how far away the Wobbly ahead is? We’ve got you covered. The Progress Bar shows how far you and your competitors are along the course so you can keep track of what's going on.

Courses

Wobble Run will have multiple courses for you to compete in. Below are screenshots of some of our favorites! The courses vary in difficulty and each one will have unique challenges.

Development Preview: Arcade #2

Hello all Wobblies!

Welcome to the second development preview, our way of keeping you all up to date with the development of the next update. This time we’re introducing another Arcade mode, “Hide and Seek”.

Note: All of this content is still in active development and so isn’t final and could change!

Hide and Seek

You probably know the rules already, but let's go through how Hide and Seek works anyway as we’ve added a few tweaks of our own!

One player is the “Seeker”, and the rest of the players are the “Hiders”.

When a Hider is caught, they will spectate until the end of the game.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   Left - The Seeker chasing a Hider. Right - Spectating a Player

The Seeker has a speed advantage over the Hiders in both moving and jumping. This gives them an advantage in any chase. So if you’re a Hider you want to stay out of sight as much as possible!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀      The Seeker icon

To even things up the Hiders can see the Seeker’s rough location with the Seeker icon. Though this icon is only updated every 5 seconds so they can’t always be sure exactly where the Seeker is! Hiders are also unable to grab anything in Hide and Seek, but the Seeker can.

Pinging

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A Wobbly getting pinged

Once the Seeker is released if a Hider moves too quickly they will set off a ping showing the Seeker their location. So when moving between hiding spots it is best to move slowly.

A Hider can only ping once every 8 seconds so if you do ping, try to move away from that area and hide as quickly as possible.

When the countdown timer reaches 30 seconds all remaining Hiders are automatically pinged so make sure you plan an escape route from where you’re hiding if the Seeker is nearby!

Sleeping

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀A sleeping Wobbly

If a Hider stays still for too long then their Wobbly gets bored and goes to sleep. The loud snoring can be heard from quite far away! To wake up, move your Wobbly around a bit. But don’t move too quickly or you might get pinged!

Maps

This mode will release with multiple maps, here are screenshots of some of the maps you can look forward to. Each map has its own unique features.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀     The Quarry map is full of explosive red barrels

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The Office map has hidden ways to move between floors

A mod version of the Quarry map will be released to the public in a mod examples package. Modders can make their own Hide and Seek maps using our mod api and tools in the Unity game engine.

Development Preview: Arcade #1

Hello all Wobblies!

Welcome to the first development preview! This is our way to keep you all in the loop with what’s going on with Wobbly Life, as this year's updates may take us a bit longer than previous years.

Note: All of this content is still in active development and so isn’t final and could change!

Arcade

In this development preview we are introducing Arcade... So what is Arcade?

Arcade is something that has been in the works way before the game even came out. You will have seen the button on the menu since launch. Arcade isn’t just one game mode, it is much much more! The official Arcade will have multiplayer game modes for you to play; these will be announced as we develop them. We’re talking about the first mode ‘Trash Zone’ below!

Mods

The other side of the Arcade mode are Mods. These will only be available to Steam users and will use the Steam Workshop.

Mods will allow you to create your own experiences using our mod tools via the Unity game engine - this could be your own gamemode or a custom world for you to mess around with the physics… it’s completely up to you!

We hope the modders out there will get stuck in and make Wobbly Life content far into the future!

The attacker(s) can also use the power up machine to get a randomly selected power up adding to the chaos.

We hope this gamemode will be a new experience for Wobbly Life players and a load of fun to play with friends.
