Legendarium Reveal

Today we are revealing the ‘Legendarium’. A new way to utilize more Legendary affixes found on the Frontier. While this feature is not yet available in-game, it will become available over the next couple of updates.

This feature will allow players to use the special bonuses found on Legendary items without actually needing to equip them. Additionally, it provides a handy list of all the Legendary items you have collected on the account and makes low-level Legendary item drops feel more meaningful than they currently are, as you can utilize their buffs independently of item stats.

“The ‘Legendary Item Rework’ update, where Legendary items all gained special unique bonuses, generated a lot of positive reactions and excitement from our alpha players,” game designer Michael May explains, “however, many have also noted that some of that level of customization and build identity should also exist on the character, not just in their item choices.” Acting on this feedback, the team decided to further expand on the Legendary system and allow for more creative options and customization and came up with the Legendarium.

This new feature is a way to increase the amount of build variety that is available without having to hoard different equipment sets or start a new character.

(Disenchant Legendaries to gain access to additional skills in the Legendarium)

Currently, there are three slots to the Legendarium that are unlocked at levels 3, 20, and 40. In order to add to the library of Legendary affixes in your Legendarium, you must disenchant the Legendary items first. This will turn outgrown Legendaries into a resource for more build variety, instead of something players can only hoard or sell.

“Since there are Legendaries that focus on different aspects of the game, this opens up very specialized targeted builds, such as summoning an army of minions when you use your Relic, enhancing your Pet to be a nigh-invulnerable mobile tank, or augmenting your Basic attack with a ton of extra effects.” Michael continues, “The options are already incredibly diverse, and as we add more and more Legendary items to the game, it will automatically add more versatility and potential to the Legendarium.”

Once an affix in your Legendarium is unlocked on your character, it will be unlocked for the whole account, meaning all of your characters will now have access to it. This applies to any and all available Legendarium affixes. And while you do need to visit the Enchanting table to first unlock a particular skill, once you have it, you will be able to swap out your Legendarium skills anytime within the skills menu.

(Equip Legendarium Skills at any time through the Skills menu.)

In order to jump-start you into customizing your build right away, even a fresh account, who has never acquired a Legendary item before or have even built an Enchanting Altar yet, will have access to five ‘starter’ Legendarium entries to pick from (as soon as they reach level 3):

  • The Wanderer’s Hood - Allows you to use Movement Skills, such as Luminous Run or Ramming Robot, more frequently.
  • Quicksilver - Turns potions into temporary speed boosts, quickly letting you evade enemies after taking a big hit
  • Frenzi’s Blade - Increases your basic attack speed the more you attack, letting you shred through enemies with your equipped weapon.
  • Headhunter - Grants an extra temporary power boost for slaying Elite and Legendary enemies
  • Godsbeard’s Glove - Allows more frequent potion use, and increases the amount of potions you’ll find on monsters

With more reason to collect Legendaries and with over 100 available Legendarium options, we hope this will bring more builds and customization to the characters of Torchlight III.

We have more feature announcements and updates coming soon so check back often! Thank you for submitting all of your bugs and feedback to https://tl3feedback.echtragames.com and see you on the frontier soon.

Difficulty Updates

Good morning Torchlight community!

We have some updates to share with you about difficulty settings and party play. While not all of the updates will be turned on and available in the upcoming patch, they should be rolled out within the next few weeks.

We received feedback that grouping with players of varying difficulty settings can cause a lot of confusion; it’s not always clear what difficulty an instance is set to, how to reset or change it, or how it affects other players in the group. After deliberating on potential solutions, we decided to update how the difficulty settings work in order to make the party experience more cohesive and clean.

First off, players can no longer change their difficulty on the fly, they will need to return to the main menu in order to change that character’s difficulty setting. We made this change to better streamline instance difficulty and it ensures that all instances are set to the correct difficulty when created.

In addition to this change, players will now be adorned with a badge that displays the character’s level and lowest difficulty setting played. The badge will reflect the lowest difficulty level your character has played on, making it a shiny beacon of accomplishment and pride for you ‘painful’ players. Max Schaefer, Echtra’s CEO has been championing this update for some time, “Beating the game on a higher difficulty level, without ever lowering it, is an accomplishment worth celebrating and admiring. We want to recognize players who do this with a literal badge of honor."

Because of this, party members will no longer be able to play together if they are not set to the same difficulty level. Once the update is fully implemented you will receive an error if you attempt to party with someone in a different difficulty setting. Players will need to switch their character to the same difficulty level in order to party together. This will create a more unified experience for all party members and avoid situations where the instance difficulty setting is unclear or unspecified. This will not change how towns interact with people. Everyone, regardless of your difficulty level can mingle in towns and shared spaces.

We are excited to share more updates and features coming to Torchlight 3 soon. Stay tuned for additional updates and thank you again for all of your bug reports, feedback, and support!

Minor Patch - Vendor Fix

To work closely with the Closed Beta testers, we continue to do weekly updates. While it means that some bugs might make it past our QA team, it does help us get more immediate feedback from our changes.

A "mainline" patch brings all of the past week's development work into the Closed Beta test. Players will need to exit the game in order to download the new version.

Bug reports in the Steam Bug forum, via Feedback button in-game, and through Discord are incredibly helpful, thank you! Players will notice many of their reports listed as fixed in today's Patch Notes.

A real quick Wednesday hotfix is now live!

This minor update includes a hotfix to address an issue related to vendors.

  • Vendors should now have the appropriate items for sale.

That is all for today!

Thank you again for all the bug reports and feedback! Just in case you haven't seen it, we've migrated to a system called Nolt to help track popular suggestions and known issues. You can now post your feedback and bug reports here: https://tl3feedback.echtragames.com
