EA promise to "do better" after their first Sims Summit "did not fairly represent" players

EA held their first Behind The Sims Summit last week, revealing plenty of Sims updates, including a very early look at the next game in the series, Project Rene. Despite this big news, discussion around the event has focused on EA’s lack of community representation, as they only included one “black simmer” onscreen during a stream full of other content creators. Black content creators have been a significant part of The Sims' online presence for years, creating custom content, mods and more.

EA apologises for first Behind The Sims Summit, "did not fairly represent players"

EA recently held its first Nintendo Direct-like event Behind The Sims Summit, and has issued an apology after only featuring one "black simmer."

Last week EA shared a few announcements related to its life-sim series, including a very early look at the next game, currently titled Project Rene. The Sims is known for having quite a big and proactive community, with Sims content creators often actually brought in for consulting work, and frequently featured in events like these. Except as pointed out by streamer Ebonix, there was only a single black simmer featured in the presentation.

In turn, the official Sims Twitter account quoted Ebonix's tweet providing a statement in which it said, "Our creator segments during the Behind The Sims Summit did not fairly represent our vast community of players. Black Simmers deserve to feel seen in all that we do at The Sims, so we're holding ourselves accountable to this mistake and will do better moving forward."

The Sims 4 base game is now free to play on all platforms, how to claim

It’s been almost a decade of The Sims 4, and most fans are yet to tire of the simulation game. During the Behind the Sims Summit on October 18, the title went free to play across all platforms. Now, The Sims 4 has had its fair share of free weekends or ‘free on Origin’ offers, but this appears to be it for the game.

Developer, Maxis, didn’t leave us with just that, though. They also revealed what’s next for the series and gave fans a brief glimpse at Project Rene; the next step for The Sims’ universe. Project Rene is a few years off yet, so in the meantime, Maxis has appeased the masses by finally making The Sims 4 free to play.

So, how do you go about claiming The Sims 4 now that it’s free? Do you have to install it through Origin? Fortunately for you, there are no requirements like that this time around.
