Tournament Rule Changes Notice

Greetings, this is Shadow Arena.

Following our goal for Shadow Arena to be an E-sports game, we’ve been hosting several tournaments such as Regional Cup, Showdown, etc during the Early Access period before official release.

We thought long and hard on how we can make each competition fun and novel and recently introduced a completely new set of rules and format through Weekly Tryout system.

After the 1st week of Weekly Tryouts, however, several players have pointed a need to change the tournament rules. We also believe it was necessary to give more engaging experience, so we are changing the rules as below:

Firstly, on Weekly Tryout Preliminaries placement calculation

We heard your feedback that basing the placements solely on survival ranking makes the early game phase too dull that you lose your sense of purpose to continue on to the later phase of the match. With that in mind, we decided to implement the point calculation method that has already been verified through previous tournaments in the Weekly Tryout Preliminaries. The new point calculation method is as following:

■ Point Calculation
Category
Points Acquired

1st place in a round (Modified)

55 points

2nd place in a round (Modified)

14 points

3rd place in a round (Modified)

3 points

4th place in a round (Modified)

2 points

5th place in a round (Modified)

1 point

Kill (3 min after game start)

10 points per kill

* Each Preliminary round will be single-round, just like before. (Updated)
* If two or more players have the same amount of total points, the final placements will be determined by the survival ranking for that round.

However, some time is needed before the new rules can be applied to the system. Thus, we will temporarily halt the system from automatically giving Finals Tickets after Preliminaries are finished. During this time, we plan to use the above point calculation method to select the players advancing to the Finals and send the Finals Tickets to them all at once after the Preliminaries end. We ask for your patience and understanding regarding this matter.

Finally, on participating in tournament with secondary accounts

Many players showed concerns regarding secondary accounts participating in tournaments during the 1st week of Weekly Tryout Preliminaries and Finals.

Participation in the Shadow Arena tournaments so far were based on an “account”. Participating in a tournament with 1 account when you own more than 2 accounts (for example, participating in the tournament not with your main account that you play with the most but with a secondary account) does not go against the tournament rules and we have no plans to restrict it in the future.

However, using the fact that the Preliminaries are held in different times, participating in them with more than 2 accounts, and advancing to the finals, can negatively affect other players’ chance to participate in the match. All the administrators have agreed that this kind of situation goes against the purpose of the tournament.

Thus, we are changing some requirements and rules for the tournament as following:

You must be Silver V or higher to participate in the Preliminaries.
- Weekly Tryouts welcomed players of all ranks to invite as many people to take part in the competitive fun but after the 1st week of Weekly Tryouts, we will now require participants to be Silver V or higher.

The amount of Preliminaries Tickets given will be set to 2.
- To encourage as many players to participate in the tournament, we are changing the amount of Preliminaries Tickets given to 2. With just 2 tries for you to advance to the Finals, we hope that each match is even more thrilling and engaging.
* Players will now get 4 Preliminaries Ticket to participate in the Weekly Tryout (Asia). [9/17 (Thu) Maintenance Update Details]

We will enforce penalties and disciplinary actionsfor rule violations more strictly
- We will apply clearer standards when enforcing the contents of Section 7 Penalties and Disciplinary Action for Rule Violations - Disqualification under standard Shadow Arena Competitive Rules regarding users who are “found to have participated in the tournament with 2 or more accounts”. In future tournaments we plan to add verification process of information collected when using our service and if 2 or more accounts are found participating in the same tournament, all the accounts will be disqualified.

The above changes will apply starting from 2nd week of Weekly Tryouts.

Shadow Arena has always tried different and new methods throughout several CBTS and Early Access. We are trying our best to listen to all the feedbacks from all our players as closely as possible and work on Shadow Arena with everyone.

We will continue to listen to everyone as we have done so far.

We would like to thank everyone for your love and support for Shadow Arena and we hope you stay tuned for upcoming tournaments.

Thank you.

9/10 (Thu) Maintenance Update Details

Greetings, this is Shadow Arena.

Here are the updates made to Shadow Arena during the maintenance on September 10, 2020 (Thu).
* Patch Size: 342.88 MB (Approx.)

Check out all the details below, and we will see you in the arena!
■ Hero
We are refraining from major hero balancing with the start of the tournament season. Instead we will prioritize and focus on bug fixes during this time.
- Added the travel distance to the skill description of Blink.
- Fixed an issue where the sandwich continued to show when a skill is used while eating a sandwich.
- Fixed an issue where weapons were not shown when certain heroes used specific skills to cancel sandwich usage.
> Tagahl (Skills 1-3)
> Herawen (Skill 3)
> Gerhard Shultz (Skills 2, 4)

Head Shot (1)
- Fixed an issue where the bow disappeared when using the skill
- Changed the sound effect of the Head Shot skill

- Changed the fury buff to increase AP by 175 when HP is 20% or less (differing from other heroes).
> Fury buff on other heroes: AP +100

Iron Pulverizer (1)
- Fixed an issue where additional hits were not applying damage after using the Ultimate level of the skill.
- Reduced the time it takes to switch to another action if the attack fails by 0.6 seconds
> You can switch to another action in the same speed as when you successfully land the skill.

Although Goyen was buffed recently, it seemed it wasn’t enough, so we've given him more clear-cut buffs. The original concept of Goyen is a hero who becomes stronger as the situation grows more dire. Thus, we enhanced his fury buff and lowered the risk of using Goyen’s gap closer, Iron Pulverizer (1), so he can engage fights more aggressively.

- Fixed an issue where Golden Gate (4) cannot be used when using a sandwich.

Radiant Slash (Courage Stance - 3)
- Fixed the visual effect to match the hitbox when using the skill

- Fixed an issue where all skills cannot be used when using a sandwich.

- Fixed an issue where Avalanche (1) and Volcanic Leap (2) were used in reverse when using a sandwich.

- Fixed an issue where Tagahl does not disappear upon death and remains frozen.

- Changed the default sub-weapon to Ornamental Knot.
- Fixed an issue where name and descriptions of the Sura Katana were in Korean.
- Added information regarding an attack delay if an attack fails in the skill description.
- Changed the names of the Form skill as follows:
> Form: Rushing Gale → Whirlwind
> Form: Countercurrent → Haze
> Form: Searing Flash → Shooting Star
> Form: Demon Rend → Blizzard

- Fixed the description of First Blade: Whirlwind (1) and Fourth Blade: Demon Rend (4) - Blizzard to match the actual dash distance
> First Blade: Rushing Gale: Level 4: 10m > 8m
> Blizzard: Level 1~3/ 5m > 7m, Level 4 / 7m > 10m

Sixth Blade: Free-Form (RMB)
- Improved the skill description for holding RMB or LMB to enable additional attacks.

First Blade: Rushing Gale (1)
- Fixed an issue where Stiffness was applied to additional hits of the Ultimate level skill
- Fixed an intermittent issue where the push back duration was too short when using the Ultimate level skill

Second Blade: Countercurrent
- Added dash distance in the skill description.

- Fixed an issue where the Super Armor visual effect continued to show when moving quickly after using Second Blade: Countercurrent (2) - Haze.
■ Combo Count
- Added a combo counter to display upon successful hits. The combo count will increase the more you connect your hits, and it will disappear after 3 seconds of no hits. You can turn the combo count on or off in the settings.
■ Respawn Time Adjustment
- Changed the respawn time from 4 minutes to 3 minutes.
> The time that the Dark Fog starts closing is same as before at 4 minutes.

We have changed the respawn time to 3 minutes to increase the game’s tempo and highlight the importance of early game positioning and route choices. However, the time that Blackstar awakens and Dark Fog starts closing in will remain as the same as before at 4 minutes, so there are no changes to the game progression after that point.
■ Monsters and Terrain Balance Adjustments
- Changed the terrain of Extraction Mill area
> Structures that hindered movement have been simplified.
- Increased the Skill EXP that you earn by defeating monsters that appear after 5 minutes (Shadow Mercenary, Shadow Warrior, Shadow Combatant, Shadow Elite Soldier - monsters with yellow cores) by 1.5 times
- Doubled the Skill EXP that you earn by defeating monsters that appear after 7 minutes (Shadow Knight, Shadow Fighter, Shadow Archer- monsters with orange core)
- Doubled the Skill EXP that you earn by defeating monsters that appear after 13 minutes (Shadow Troll- monster with purple core) by 1.5 times
- Changed the additional Skill EXP buff to be unobtainable when defeating a Ruins Golem.
- Changed the 1500 Skill EXP (1.5 Skill Points) to be obtainable when defeating all the golems that split from the Ruins Golem.
- Increased the rate that you can earn Ancient Weapon Fragment upon defeating Ruins Golem.
- Doubled the HP of the Suspicious Cauldron.
- Changed the additional Skill EXP buff (+50% for 1 min) to be obtainable when destroying a Suspicious Cauldron.

The safer farming time was reduced due to the respawn time adjustments above, so we’ve increased the EXP you can earn from the mid- to late-game wave of monsters to let you earn XP at later phases.

Also, too much EXP was obtainable instantaneously when defeating specters with the Ruins Golem buff, so we’ve changed the Ruins Golem to make the Golem itself grant generous amounts of EXP rather than an EXP buff and changed the Suspicious Cauldron to give a weaker version of the additional EXP buff.
■ Blackstar and Sealed Relic Tower
- Changed the spawn times of specters around the Blackstar and Sealed Relic Tower as follows:
> Specters: 3 min 30 sec, 5 min 30 sec, 7 min 30 sec, 9 min 30 sec
> Sealed Relic Tower: 5 min 30 sec, 7 min 30 sec, 9 min 30 sec, 12 min, 14 min 30 sec, 17 min 30 sec, 19 min 30 sec
- Changed the Sealed Relic Tower to show a spawn animation upon spawning
- Changed the Blackstar to move to the center of the Dark Fog once the Dark Fog has completely shrunk the safe zone.
- Reduced Blackstar’s movement speed by 33.3%
- Fixed an issue where you’re stuck in certain locations when Sealed Relic Tower and Shadow Lords are spawned.
- Changed the icon of Sealed Relic Tower that spawns in later phase to appear in the World Map and the minimap.
■ Shadow Lord
- Reduced all of Margord’s damage by 50%.
- Reduced the floating effect duration of Margord’s attacks from 2 seconds to 1.2 seconds.
- Changed the Shadow Lord to take an attack stance after its spawn animation.
- Changed the Shadow Lord to not preemptively attack unless another hero attacks it first or come within a 10M range.
- Changed Shadow Lord’s hitbox to match its visual effect
- Fixed an issue where the Shadow Lord appears briefly before it spawns.
- Increased the chance the Shadow Lord will change its target to another nearby Hero.
- Added a despawn animation when the Shadow Lord is defeated.
- Fixed an intermittent issue where Shadow Lord’s body does not disappear when it is defeated.

The last Shadow Lord, “Margord”, became very difficult to deal with after receiving a significant buff from last week along with the Shadow Lord AI having the characteristic of not easily changing its first target. So, we’ve reduced Margord’s AP and increased the chance in which the Shadow Lords change their target.
■ Monsters and AI
- Fixed an issue where bots and specters cannot move when a chest is present
- Fixed an issue where bots do not attack each other in a close distance.
- Increased the travel distance of Jordine bot’s Formation Break by 10%.
- Changed Ahon Kirus bot’s Sun of Destruction to apply knockdown instead of pushing back.
- Fixed an issue where the last hit of Ahon Kirus bot’s basic attack was not audible.
- Increase the chance bots and specters will change their target to another nearby Hero.
- Improved an intermittent issue where monsters disappear.
- Improved monsters to detect nearby heroes better when roaming.
- Fixed an intermittent issue where two Hungry Black Spirits attack one Hero in the Dark Fog.
■ Matchmaking Improvements
- Improved the matchmaking system a bit more for Solo matches
■ Team Mode
- Changed Team mode to have 10 bots by default when you enter.
- Reduced the frequency of additional bots in Team mode (one bot will be added every 15 seconds without a new player).
■ Other Fixes and Improvements
- Added a button to register for tournaments in the lobby.
- Added a visual indicator in the menu if there are unclaimed Challenge Rewards.
- Removed rival status messages for obtaining Shadow Lord’s weapon and Ancient Weapon Summon Scroll, and for mounting Ancient Weapons.
- Changed the countdown UI sound effect when starting King of the Hill mode.
- Changed the UI sound effect when opening and closing the map, skill cooldowns are finished, and opening and closing the inventory.
- Added sound effects for a successful back attack UI.
- Fixed an issue where the bot sound was too loud when the game began or when you respawned in early game.

One last thing.
We’re adding a new mode next week. Please stay tuned!

Thank you.
